Chichen-Itza, the city of the Itzáes. Located just one and a half hours from Tulum, Chichén-Itzá was first settled around 300 BC as Mayan groups began to gather around cenotes (natural wells and the peninsula’s only source of fresh water). Only 100 years later, Chichén-Itzá had become a thriving metropolis with a population of about 50,000. Chichen-itza also is now one of the 7 wonders of the world.
