Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari met with Japanese Emperor Akihito in Tokyo on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the president and Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan signed a final installment of Japan's pledge to Pakistan's 2010 flood victims.

Floods in Pakistan last year killed more than 1,700 people, forced at least ten million people from their homes, and caused billions in damage.

According to Pakistani media, Zardari also asked Japan to consider a nuclear cooperation deal.

The Kyodo News Agency reports Japan also hopes to deepen ties with Pakistan in order to counter terrorism in Afghanistan and the region.
