A suicide bomber targets an army recruitment center in northwestern Pakistan, killing 20. The country's prime minister condemns the attack, saying the government won't back down from fighting terrorism.

On Thursday, a teenage boy in a school uniform blew himself up at an army recruitment center in Mardan, Pakistan. 20 cadets were killed in the blast.

Military officials say the boy walked into the compound when the cadets were having their morning training.

[Abdul Wahab, Witness]:
"I was resting at home. I heard an explosion. The children had gone to school. I rose in panic and I got worried about the children. I rushed out of my house and I saw ambulances coming and going. Then I found out a blast had occurred inside this center."

The brazen bombing suggested militants are regrouping after a lull in major attacks.

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani condemned Thursday's attack and said in a statement that such cowardly attacks cannot affect the morale of security agencies and the resolve of the nation to eradicate terrorism.

The Taliban has previously launched bold attacks on the military, Pakistan's most powerful institution.

Last March, two suicide bombers targeting the Pakistani military killed at least 45 people in the city of Lahore, including nine soldiers.
