A Culinary collective launched on Tuesday, it's aim; to protect and serve French gastronomy. The collective will also foster young French cooks and help preserve the country's products and producers.

France's culinary elite came together on Tuesday at the Eiffel Tower to launch the College Culinaire de France, a collective set up by 15 of France's top chefs which aims to promote and safeguard the country's culinary heritage.

One member is head chef at the Eiffel Tower's Michelin-starred Jules Verne restaurant.

[Alain Ducasse, French Chef]:
"I believe we exchange and make French cooking shine a whole lot better when we are together. To better represent diversity, to communicate better and to shine."

French gastronomy was recently declared part of the world heritage list by UNESCO and during the conference, the chefs drew comparisons with the Medici dynasty, famed for protecting the arts and inspiring the Italian Renaissance.

The collective says it will come together on a monthly basis, stating its objectives as social, cultural and economic.

The college aims to foster young talent in France.

One college member Joel Rubuchon has 26 Michelin stars to his name.

[Joel Robuchon, French Chef]:
"We said that we will improve the knowledge of French products, a selection of the best French products. And on top of that, to pass that on, we will help the youth, which is our shared duty. What we have received we must pass on."

The collective says France is the capital of world gastronomy and it will help protect French products and producers, stressing their importance in France's culinary heritage.
