The German Sustainability Award Foundation honored German businesses for their outstanding social and environmental dedication. Leading German politicians as well as international celebrities attended the ceremony.

The German Sustainability Award Foundation held an award ceremony in Düsseldorf, Germany, to honor companies for their social and environmental achievements.

The ceremony followed a day of discussions and panels with Germanys' top economy and sustainability experts.

Companies also demonstrated the latest alternative energy technologies. This company produces charging stations for electric cars.

[Jochen Zeitz, CEO, PUMA]:
"As a company we are oriented in an economically, ecologically and socially sustainable way. We have a clear strategy, in good times and bad times. And we don't just orientate ourselves on the crisis, and react to it, without really questioning the longtime goals."

Zeitz gets his inspiration from philosophy and religion. Together with Father Anselm Grün, he wrote a book about "God, money and conscience."

The highlight of the day was the award ceremony. Some of Germanys' top CEOs and politicians attended, as well as international music and television celebrities.

[Nina Eichinger, Casting Show Juror]:
"I generally welcome any electric vehicle. It does not stink, it makes no noise, and you can drive with it anyway. I think it's great."

For their own homes, these television celebrities don't need energy from the outside.

[Jean Pütz, TV Host]:
"I have 25 centimeters of wood-wool around it, so quite natural materials. And I need no more energy going into the house."

One of the honorary awards went to Robin Gibb from the Bee Gees for donating the royalties of one song. It adds up to about 24 million dollars that went to the children's aid organization Unicef. The Bee Gees wrapped up the ceremony, ending on a high note.
