1,360 teams will participate in a unique cricket tournament in India's Himachal Pradesh state, setting a new world record. The tournament aims to promote the sport in remote areas of the state.

A cricket tournament named T20 Mahasangram is underway in the scenic town of Kalpa in India's Himachal Pradesh.

1,360 teams with 16,000 players are participating in the tournament, creating a new world record.

One player says he’s excited about the tournament.

[Abhinav, Player]:
"I am very excited about this tournament because it is going to be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records...I wish this kind of tournament could happen twice or three times a year so that cricket can be promoted in Himachal Pradesh.”

The goal of this mega tourney… promote the game in the isolated and remote areas of Himachal Pradesh.

The tournament's semi finals and final matches will be played under floodlights at the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium.

The games will be played in 75 venues across the state.

The first edition of this tournament was staged in 2009 and saw the participation of 14,500 players representing over 1,000 teams.
