Irish PM says to call election after budget passed

The Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen said on Monday that he would call an early election in January, but resisted calls for his immediate resignation. Cowen said he would remain in power long enough for a budget to be passed in December - an essential condition of Ireland receiving a bailout package worth tens of billions of Euros from the European Central Bank and the IMF. The Irish leader's coalition partners the Green Party said earlier in the day that they would leave the coalition if an election was not called in January.Duration: 01:12
