Local residents survey what is left of a MiG-27 fighter jet.

The aircraft was on a routine flight when it crashed in a field, around 40 miles from Jodhpur City Wednesday.

According to media reports the pilot escaped unharmed.

Witnesses say the aircraft crashed on a herd of sheep that was grazing on an almost barren field, but the sheep were unhurt.

Burned and mangled remains are all that is left now.
