Women's hammer throw, 1999 IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Seville, Spain.

World record holder, Romania's Mihaela Melinte, became the first champion in the women's hammer in history of the competition. On the last round, Melinte threw 75.20 metres, the second all-time best, only 67 shy of her own world record. Melinte gave no options to her closest rival, Russian Olga Kuzenkova, who was second with 72.56 metres. The Romanian dominated the competition since her first throw (71.57 m), to improve later again in the second (73.23 m) and in the third (74.21 m) rounds. Kuzenkova, after a foul and a second of 68.18, broke the 70 metres barrier in the third (71.79). Her best effort came in the sixth round with 72.56. The third , from American Samoa, was Lisa Misipeka, the 1999 US university champion, who beat Hungarian Katalin Divós, Australian Deborah Sosimenko and Belarus' Lyudmila Gubkina.
