Curfew Continues in Indian Kashmir

A curfew continues to be imposed in India's Kashmir Valley, following the escalation of violence in the region over the last two days.

On Tuesday, the streets of Srinagar City were deserted as shops and offices remain closed. Police were seen patrolling the area.

The city has virtually come to a standstill with all major roads sealed with barbed wires and barricades.

An indefinite curfew was announced on Sunday after violent mobs marred the celebrations of a Muslim festival in the state.

About 70 people have been killed in one of the worst outbreaks of violence since a separatist revolt against New Delhi broke out in Kashmir in 1989.
