In India's Uttarakhand state, heavy downpours have triggered landslides damaging houses and roads. No casualties have been reported, but many people have been injured.

Heavy downpours and landslides triggered by a sudden, violent rainstorm wreaked havoc in India's Uttarakhand state on Thursday.

More than 50 houses and a school were badly damaged in the village of Matak Majari.

Roads in the area were swept away and a bus fell into a gorge near the village. While no casualties have been reported, unconfirmed media reports suggest many people have been injured.

Slush of mud and debris entered several houses within a short time, giving no opportunity for villagers to save their belongings.

"I have lost everything. All my money, ration and clothes with other belongings have been swept away. I have borrowed the clothes that I am wearing right now. There is nothing left in my house.”

Crops have been completely destroyed and villagers are now worried as the harvest season is on.

The hilly region has been experiencing torrential rains and subsequent landslides that have washed away many structures on embankments along the mountain streams.

Recently, the roof of a school building collapsed following a cloudburst, killing 18 students in the Bageshwar district of the state.
