"Last year was a good year for the traders of Surat, but this year the business is weak as compared to last year. The reason behind declining business is that rising prices is holding the customers back from buying things."

The textile industry is one of the oldest and the most widespread industries in Surat.

However, the manufacturers in the textile hub expect a turnaround with the upcoming festival season later in the year.

A major part of Surat’s population is associated with the textile industry.

Surat’s textile industry is mainly involved in yarn production, weaving, processing and embroidery. The city is well known for its synthetic products.

The main markets for Surat's textile products are India, the Middle East and other Asian countries.
