England have kicked off their "do-or-die" World Cup clash with Slovenia, as the nation holds its breath in expectation.

After disappointing draws against the USA and Algeria, skipper Steven Gerrard reassured fans the players were hungry for victory.

And manager Fabio Capello said the team was fully focused on the match with any spats in the camp already forgotten.

England fans travelling to Port Elizabeth, also known as the "Windy City", were out in force last night vowing to cheer the team on.

Many took to the Boardwalk opposite King's Beach, where they were enjoying the bars, restaurants and casino.

One flipped a coin into the fountain and said hopefully: "World Cup final."
