Spat Out in Glory/Super 8/Nicaragua Surf Mat

Rough cuts from the surf film Spat Out in Glory. It may have been the only surf mat on Playa Santana in Nicaragua... and Spat had it. The Camera Monkey shot these clips on the Beaulieu 4008ZM Super 8 after Spat demonstrated a decided lack of ability on the board. Note the vintage Super 8 blur and color notes. We shot Ektachrome 64 on the Bealieu's auto setting. First thoughts? Over exposed by one stop. Which means take the auto read, and back the aperture off TWO stops in bright sun. They say the Beaulieu over-exposes anyway. The surf craft? The Neumatic by Dale Solomonson. Variable rocker provides variable speed. In retrospect, Spat should have been pulling up into the curl faster. Lesson learned. Super 8 processed at Yale Film and Video in Burbank, CA.
