Eight Filipino military officers are dead after a plane crashed in Cotabato City on Thursday. The plane departed from Davao city and was headed to Zamboanga city.

Witnesses say the plane was flying very low before it crashed. It also damaged a couple of houses in its path.

[Imelda Madip, Witness]:
"We saw the plane suddenly falling towards this area. And then we found out it had exploded, and the houses burned down."

Investigations are underway.

[Cris Tumanda, Air Force Lieutenant-Colonel]:
"I'm not sure how old the aircraft is, but it's still in a very good condition. We will conduct an investigation on what really happened."

Most of the Philippine military aircraft are donated by the U.S. through a military aid program. Many of them were manufactured in the late 1960s.
