00:12ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:30It drops quite considerably, and we're 800 metres above sea level here at Interlagos.
00:35Lando Norris was the winner last year.
00:37Lando Norris was the fastest in FP1 earlier today.
00:42Tyres degrading somewhat.
00:44C5 is the soft, C4 is the medium, C3 is the hard.
00:48They're a step softer in the compound than we had this time last year.
00:52And the scene currently cloudy with a chance of a bit of mizzle.
00:57Yeah, the clouds have kind of dropped down a little bit.
00:59There is definitely rain in the air.
01:02Let's hope it doesn't disrupt this practice session.
01:04Karun Chandog alongside me in the commentary box.
01:08Well, can Kimi Antonelli do this weekend what every driver has done this decade
01:14when they've clinched the world title before the end of the season,
01:17and that's go on and win the next Grand Prix?
01:19He absolutely can.
01:21You know, the Mercedes should be a competitive car around here.
01:23So he's driving very well, as we've seen throughout the season.
01:27So there's no doubt about it.
01:29He is one of the contenders.
01:30But I suspect the likes of Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and the Ferrari drivers
01:35will have something to say about that.
01:37Lewis Hamilton in 2020, Max Verstappen in 2022, 23, and 24 all went and won the next Grand Prix
01:44after they clinched the world title before the season had ended.
01:48With Max, of course, he did it in Qatar in 2023 in the sprint race when he won the Grand
01:52Prix
01:52the next day at the La Salle racetrack.
01:58I'm just looking at the clouds.
01:59They are getting lower.
02:01I know we're 800 metres above sea level here, but there is a lot of cloud about.
02:05That does not normally, Karun Chandog, give us a dry session for a whole hour.
02:11Yeah, and the wind has picked up as well, as you can see,
02:13with these enormous flags above the grandstands.
02:16The wind this morning wasn't that strong, but it has definitely picked up.
02:23And you can feel the sort of mizzle, I think, is that the word you used earlier?
02:29Yeah, mizzle.
02:30Yeah, yeah.
02:30There's some moisture in the air, definitely.
02:32Charles Leclerc is back in the Ferrari garage.
02:36That's brilliant.
02:37He missed FP1.
02:38Dino Boganovich took over driving duties, and he missed Media Day yesterday
02:43because he was on his way back from Monaco after attending the birth of his daughter, Bianca.
02:48Congratulations to Bianca, and to Charles, and to Alexandra as well.
02:52Kimi Antonelli then with an unassailable lead now in the Drivers' Championship.
02:56Gabriel Bortoleto currently 14th, and that eighth-place finish for him in Mexico,
03:01taking him above his teammate, Nick Al-Holkenberg,
03:04and he one of two Brazilian drivers on the grid for this Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
03:10Ted, don't call it the Brazilian Grand Prix, but the fans have a couple of home faithfuls to cheer on.
03:15They certainly do, yes.
03:17Hello, Crofty.
03:17Hello, Karun.
03:18Hello, everybody from the pit lane.
03:19So, if you're a Ferrari Formula One driver, how long is your paternity leave?
03:23Answer, three and a half days.
03:25So, I'm sure the Ferrari company would be more generous to the people
03:29who aren't immediately required to drive their Formula One cars,
03:33but that's all that Charles Leclerc has had.
03:35So, in the car now, three and a half days after the birth of his daughter,
03:40in and ready after Dino Boganovich had his car,
03:43and first out, together with Lewis Hamilton,
03:47and that's because they are keen to get a handle
03:49on exactly how quick this Ferrari is around Interlagos.
03:53We've seen Lando Norris lay down a bit of a marker so far.
03:57We're yet to see maybe what Max Verstappen has in his Red Bull,
04:01with, they hope, the gear shift problems eliminated from earlier on.
04:06But where is Ferrari?
04:08After, I don't know if it's fair to say,
04:10a little bit of dressing down, maybe, a bit of clearing the air.
04:13There's the mizzle you talk about in the air
04:15from the team boss, Fred Vasseur,
04:17in the press conference between the sessions.
04:19But what is clear is that Fred has laid down the law.
04:22Lewis and Charles, you're racing for the company, not for yourselves.
04:26Well, we'll see how long that one lasts when it's tested in battle.
04:29It's all about the brand,
04:32and that has been laid down to both drivers,
04:35and I'm sure there will be more conversations over the weekend.
04:38I'm glad to say, when I caught up with Charles on a Monday after Austin,
04:43I was having a chat on the golf course with him,
04:46and Pierre Gasly,
04:47and he explained exactly what was going to be happening
04:49in between Mexico and Interlagos,
04:52and the plan that he had.
04:53I'm glad to say it worked absolutely perfectly
04:55so he could go back, be there at the birth of his daughter,
04:59and come back too.
05:01And then Pierre and I were like,
05:02you've played nine sets of paddle this morning.
05:04He's like, yeah.
05:05Do you realize this is the last week of lions you're ever going to get
05:08in your entire life?
05:10Why are you getting up early and playing nine sets of paddle?
05:13Yeah, he's come back from Monaco to sleep here in Brazil, isn't he?
05:17You, me, and Ted, we've all been parents of newborns,
05:20and we know the challenge of the first few weeks
05:23of sleep for everybody in the household.
05:27Yeah, well, he's got a week at home next week,
05:30and then he's off on a tripleheader yet again,
05:32and then Christmas time with the family.
05:34Absolutely fantastic for him.
05:36There's Pierre Gasly, who is out on track
05:38on the hard compound tyre.
05:41A mixture of hard and mediums out there at the moment.
05:44I wonder if the soft is going to be a decent race tyre or not.
05:48I'm kind of expecting a little bit of degradation
05:50on that soft tyre,
05:52mainly because it is one step softer
05:54than last year's soft tyre.
05:56So the hard that we're running here
05:59was the medium last year.
06:01The C2, they thought was just sliding a little bit too much,
06:04so that's why we've gone a step softer.
06:07But I wonder if that soft tyre can be used
06:09during the race too much.
06:10Well, at the moment,
06:12the last forecast I saw said 82% chance of rain on Sunday,
06:16so we might not be seeing any of the three compounds.
06:18We're probably just going to see
06:19wets and intermediates throughout the day,
06:22but I think, you know,
06:24the teams on a Friday still have to go
06:26through the whole programme, right?
06:27You know, we know here in Interlagos
06:28the weather can change very quickly.
06:31You know, we're sort of in this bowl,
06:33Interlagos meaning between the lakes
06:35as you see Gasly running a bit wider,
06:37Jun Sao turn 12,
06:39and the weather patterns could change super quickly.
06:42So you still have to go through the programmes,
06:44you'll have to prepare
06:44on the chance that it is going to be a dry race,
06:49but I have to say the forecast
06:51throughout this week,
06:53Croft, in the build-up of this,
06:53has been pretty consistent, isn't it?
06:55Anywhere between 80% and 90% chance of rain for Sunday.
06:58Absolutely.
06:59I'm hoping we get a bit of rain.
07:02It would be nice.
07:02On board with Charles Leclerc currently,
07:04and this is a decent lap
07:06for his first lap on the medium compound tyre.
07:09It's a 1.13.2,
07:11as he slots in ahead of Franco Colopinto
07:13and Pierre Gasly.
07:15This is Gabby Bortoletto
07:16in the special tribute livery for Audi.
07:21They've got a dark green and gold.
07:24Talking of Audi,
07:25you'd have seen,
07:27if you were with us for FP1,
07:28that Freddie Slater didn't get many laps in
07:30before the car switched itself off.
07:32They're still chasing the issue from FP1
07:35and say it's hard to find the cause.
07:37Likely, electronics still being worked on,
07:40they say.
07:41Right, joining us in the commentary box
07:43because it's a Friday
07:44and he's got nothing to do
07:46on a Friday afternoon whatsoever
07:47because his work is finished for the day.
07:49Luke Browning from Williams.
07:52Hello, Bron.
07:52I mean, what do you normally do for FP2?
07:54Not a whole lot.
07:55No, no, not a busy day.
07:56So I'm glad you could come and join us then.
07:58How was it out there?
08:00It was great.
08:00Oh, my God.
08:01Yeah, to drive down that start-finish street,
08:04you know, I remember I've got this vision
08:06of Lewis crossing a line
08:07and becoming world champion.
08:09Well, for the first time for him,
08:11it was quite incredible.
08:12It was to drive up that hill
08:14and then hit the brakes into T1.
08:16One thing I'm more excited about, though,
08:18is to watch the rest of the weekend
08:19with this weather forecast.
08:20Oh, yeah.
08:21What's your Williams weather forecast saying?
08:23Because it's probably a bit more accurate
08:25than our upturned palm
08:26at the back of the commentary box.
08:28Wet, but...
08:29Excellent.
08:31I think your guess is as good as anyone's,
08:32to be honest, around here.
08:33Yeah.
08:34What's it they say here?
08:35Here's the cliche.
08:36Yes, the weather doesn't come in here.
08:38It builds up around here.
08:40And normally it builds up
08:41when we can't see some of the skyscrapers
08:44off in the distance
08:45on the far side of the track.
08:47We know there's rain coming.
08:48Yeah.
08:48Do you remember being here?
08:50It was a 2023.
08:51You and I were in this commentary box
08:53and the dark clouds were just building up.
08:57We could see it coming.
08:59But there was that, you know,
09:01it was a real go-no-go, wasn't it,
09:02in terms of what tyres do you put on?
09:04And you could see the storms just building up.
09:07It is an amazing view up here.
09:09Isaac Hadjar says it is starting to drizzle.
09:12Lewis Hamilton saying
09:13he can't get the tyre temperatures up.
09:15The track temperature's dropped now
09:16to below 40 degrees.
09:19Were you one of the many
09:20that locked up into Turn 1?
09:21I was very safe in Turn 1.
09:24I was on a limited run plan
09:26and I think I just wanted to get my laps in.
09:28So I made sure I hit my marker
09:30a little bit early.
09:31Because it's very easy for the tyres
09:33to get too cold on that.
09:34It's about a 17-second run, isn't it,
09:36from Junsau to Turn 1.
09:37We were even weaving, actually,
09:38down the straight to start the lap
09:39to try and get the temperature in.
09:42And you don't want to do a build lap
09:44because the rear deg is so high here.
09:45The mechanical deg on the tyre is really tough.
09:47So especially this new tarmac,
09:49believe it or not,
09:49going it on, off, on.
09:51It feels like it's sliding the tyre quite a lot.
09:53It's not easy.
09:54So have you been around this track before today?
09:57No, first time.
09:58Yeah, and I was just chatting
10:01with Gabriele Mini in the paddock as well,
10:02another one of the drivers
10:03who did FV1 in that rookie session.
10:05It's a tricky track, isn't it,
10:07to get your head around?
10:08Absolutely. And what a job Mini did.
10:08And it looked like an incredible lap
10:10from that you're minding it.
10:12So, yeah.
10:13It's more major than Mini, to be fair.
10:15Oh, for goodness sake.
10:17Oh, no, he did a super job.
10:19Yeah.
10:20In the other Alpine, not Franco Colopinto's.
10:23So that's a bit of new tarmac there,
10:25but it's been resurfaced in between Curva de Sol
10:28to the exit of De Ciro de Lago.
10:30Is that right?
10:31Yes, but then there's also small,
10:34just narrow resurfacing,
10:36I think, on the mid-corner through 10,
10:38which then sort of falls off to the right.
10:39So, yeah, a little bit different.
10:42I'm actually, the most interesting thing
10:43is if it rains,
10:44is that going to be more slippy
10:45or is it going to be more grippy?
10:47And what are the bumps like, Luke?
10:49Because we heard some cars
10:50bottoming quite a lot into Turn 1.
10:52Colton Herta was one
10:53that we could hear the car
10:54just skimming the deck
10:56and therefore sort of locking up into Turn 1.
10:58Yeah, I think just,
10:59I think it's Piastri coming in there,
11:01but you can just see as you brake
11:02and you turn into that apex of T1,
11:04you hit your brake marker around 50 metres.
11:06And then as you're bleeding off,
11:07the front left's just bobbing up and down
11:09as it goes over the bumps there.
11:10So, I think it was actually built
11:12on an even land disc, wasn't it?
11:14Which probably means it's moving.
11:16It was built on land unsuitable for housing.
11:19Now, you wouldn't know it
11:20given the amount of houses
11:21that are now around the track,
11:23but once upon a time,
11:24this was land unsuitable for housing
11:26and it was an awful lot bigger,
11:27this track too.
11:28You know what's happened?
11:29We've let one of these Gen Z millennials
11:31in the commentary box
11:32and I've resorted to calling them corner numbers.
11:35Yeah, well, I...
11:36Bad.
11:36It is bad.
11:37Obviously, you know,
11:38we're very grateful that Luke is here,
11:40but he's not done his research.
11:41No.
11:42He's not done his homework.
11:42He doesn't know the corner names.
11:44Yeah, you're going to have me out on that.
11:46Usually, I'm well prepared,
11:47but one thing I've not done is the corner names.
11:49The reason we're saying this
11:50is this is a track
11:51with fantastic corner names.
11:54So, we'll see.
11:55As the session unfolds,
11:57you know, we'll quiz you, Luke,
11:59in 52 minutes' time
12:00and see how much you learn
12:01from Uncle Crofty and Uncle Farron.
12:02So, Max Verstappen finishes a lap
12:05and heads to turn one
12:06and then through the center-esses.
12:08And this is on board with Lewis Hamilton
12:10to finish his lap,
12:13making adjustments as he crosses the line.
12:15Eight fastest for him,
12:16Lando Norris,
12:17going a little bit faster.
12:19There he is behind.
12:21But I'll tell you what,
12:21as we've got everyone,
12:22bar George Russell
12:23and Nico Hülkenberg,
12:25out on the track currently,
12:26let's go out on the track as well,
12:28shall we?
12:28Martin Brundle,
12:29where do we find you?
12:33I'm on the outside of the Senna-S,
12:35I believe it's called,
12:36turn two.
12:37Wonderful view.
12:39The pit lane is here as well.
12:41It was extraordinary.
12:42Charles Leclerc,
12:42we know,
12:43just got in the car,
12:44trundled past here
12:45doing about 40 miles an hour
12:46in this very, very long pit exit.
12:50And the next thing is,
12:51he turned up flat out
12:54and absolutely nailed the chicane,
12:57unlike the Haas in front of us there.
12:59We've seen half a dozen cars
13:01go over that
13:02get out of jail free car
13:03in the blue and white advertising there.
13:06And you can see why
13:07they locked the front axle.
13:09See how much the track falls away.
13:11So if you're in too deep,
13:13it's kind of like you're over.
13:15There's almost nothing
13:16you can do about it.
13:17You get in,
13:18you're carrying too much speed,
13:20too much inertia.
13:21Then the track falls away
13:23from your left front tyre.
13:25Look at the Aston Martin there.
13:26Oh, Fernando Alonso.
13:28He hit the kerb,
13:29so the back end was moving around.
13:31Lance Strong following him.
13:32We're seeing a lot of cars
13:34moving around under traction there
13:37as they really try to get
13:38out of two into three.
13:40Here's Charles Leclerc again
13:41on the medium compound tyres.
13:43Back end of the car just moving.
13:45You can just see some rolls set in
13:47as then the tyres,
13:49the sidewalls are squashing down
13:50a little bit.
13:51So much grip,
13:52so much downforce
13:53going through that corner.
13:54So once again,
13:56you need everything here.
13:57You need braking.
13:58And now we've got Hajar
14:00going in too deep.
14:02And that absolutely destroys your lap
14:04before you've even got underway.
14:07It's so frustrating
14:08when that happens.
14:10So yeah,
14:11you need braking.
14:12You need a car that's stable.
14:13And turn in.
14:15And then you need direction change.
14:17Then you need traction.
14:18And then you're just flat out
14:21all the way through turn three
14:23as Oli Behrman comes through now
14:25in the Haas.
14:26And we'll see him through.
14:28So victim arm,
14:29but I'm super impressed
14:30how the drivers in the Williams
14:32now up there too
14:33has completely missed the corner.
14:36And this is the PID exit
14:37of Max Verstappen
14:38underneath our toes here.
14:40So all going on
14:42and that was Albon
14:43we saw going over
14:44the runoff area there.
14:46But yeah,
14:47and this,
14:48they've not even got into turn three
14:49and there's so much energy,
14:52so much movement
14:53going on.
14:54Back to you.
14:55Thanks ever so much,
14:56Martin.
14:57It is a great spot
14:58if you ever get the chance
14:59to watch Formula One cars
15:01down at the Senna S.
15:02And if Martin's still there,
15:03which I'm sure he is,
15:04he'll see George Russell
15:05coming through now.
15:06George out of the pits
15:08and onto a,
15:10we assume,
15:11warm-up lap
15:12heading down the Retta Apostar
15:14opposite straight
15:15to Decido do Lago
15:17Lake Descent.
15:19And that's for the benefit
15:20of Luke Browning there
15:21who's now getting
15:22a Portuguese lesson.
15:23Coming up next,
15:24is Ferradura.
15:25What do you think that means?
15:27Uphill to the right.
15:28Absolutely.
15:29Horseshoe.
15:31Because it,
15:31because it looks like
15:32a horseshoe, right?
15:33Oh really?
15:34What do you mean,
15:34oh really?
15:35You were out there
15:36driving it today.
15:37Did you not think
15:38because you would go
15:38long right-hand
15:39oh, it looks like a horseshoe.
15:40It's a horseshoe.
15:41Pinarino
15:42and now Bico de Pato,
15:44the duckbill.
15:45The duckbill,
15:46what?
15:46What do you do
15:47at this next corner?
15:48You go...
15:49Down.
15:50So...
15:51The lake.
15:51Yeah,
15:52so you go down
15:53and it's Magulio,
15:54the dive.
15:56Junsao,
15:56which is...
15:57Up the hill to the left.
15:59Correct.
15:59Junction.
16:01And then there's
16:02a couple more names
16:03that we never even talk about.
16:04Thus endeth
16:05your Portuguese lesson
16:06for Luke Browning
16:07and we'll head down
16:08to Ted
16:08for some proper information.
16:11I wish I could bring you
16:12better information
16:13from the Audi garage
16:14but I can't.
16:16Unfortunately,
16:16it's got worse,
16:17the rebuild
16:18on Hülkenberg's car.
16:19Oh dear.
16:19They had just put...
16:20They had some of the bodywork
16:21back on
16:22minus the floor
16:23and then they tried
16:25to power it up
16:26I think
16:26and then it wouldn't
16:27and then they've taken
16:29even more panels off it
16:30and there are more mechanics
16:32underneath the car.
16:34Audi in their typical way
16:35are just saying
16:35it's a technical problem.
16:36They don't specify
16:37what it is.
16:38That's just not something
16:39they do
16:40but I can tell you
16:41it's everything.
16:42It looks like it's ERS,
16:43it's energy recovery system,
16:44it looks like it's engine,
16:45it's also...
16:46I can see some hydraulic lines
16:47in and out of there
16:49getting disconnected.
16:50So this car,
16:51I predict,
16:53is not going to make
16:54this session.
16:55I hope I'm proved wrong
16:56but they're taking
16:57more and more bits off it
16:58as I speak to you.
17:01Thanks, Ted.
17:02Looks like Nico Hülkenberg
17:03who 16 years
17:04to the day tomorrow
17:06took his one and only poll
17:07here in Formula 1
17:09isn't going to get
17:10to drive that car
17:11until tomorrow.
17:13Verstappen crosses the line
17:14third fastest.
17:15He remains next driver
17:17over the line,
17:18Gabriel Portoleto
17:19and then Charles Leclerc
17:20starting a lap.
17:21In the Ferrari,
17:23it's Kimi Antonelli
17:23currently with the fastest time.
17:25Two tenths clear
17:26of Lando Norris.
17:27Have you seen what they've done
17:28to Kimi's pass
17:29to get into the paddock
17:31by the way?
17:32When he puts his pass
17:34up against the paddock swipe gates
17:35a picture comes up
17:36that says Baby Goat.
17:39He's not quite the greatest
17:40of all time yet.
17:41I think he's got a few more
17:42championships to win
17:43but he is now the Baby Goat.
17:45That's fantastic, isn't it?
17:46Quite like that.
17:47If you haven't seen it,
17:48it's somewhere on the social media.
17:51I did quite like
17:52Kimi's and Mercedes'
17:53way they go around social media.
17:55It is quite funny.
17:56Seems to be a lot of pies
17:57in their faces, isn't it?
17:59Yeah, to celebrate
18:00people's birthday.
18:01And then I think
18:02he got pied himself,
18:03didn't he?
18:04when it was his birthday.
18:06But as a young driver yourself,
18:09you've got to have
18:10those moments of release
18:11to kind of coincide
18:13with the moments
18:14of intense working
18:15so it doesn't all feel
18:16like a chore all the time.
18:18It's never a chore
18:19driving these cars,
18:20that's for sure.
18:21Driving it, no.
18:22The engineering briefings,
18:23that might be another matter.
18:25Absolutely.
18:25No, sorry.
18:25No, sorry, James.
18:28I think this is the point
18:30that Toto was making.
18:32Sometimes you forget
18:32he's still 20 years old.
18:35We've been on flights
18:36with him this year.
18:36I remember Simon
18:37and I were on a flight
18:38to the Miami Grompy
18:39with Kimi.
18:40And he looks like
18:42a uni student
18:43on his gap year
18:44with his little backpack
18:44and just wandering
18:45through the airport
18:46completely by himself,
18:47no entourage.
18:49There was another flight.
18:50His parents and sister
18:51were on there.
18:52I remember wandering around.
18:53They were all playing Uno
18:54on the flight.
18:55You know, it's just
18:56and you forget,
18:58you forget he is
19:00just a 20-year-old kid
19:02in some ways.
19:03Obviously, in other ways,
19:04he is an exceptionally gifted
19:06Formula One world champion.
19:08Absolutely.
19:09And a young adult.
19:10But the way he holds himself
19:11is certainly mature, isn't it?
19:12I mean, the way he's
19:13gone about his racing this year
19:15has been incredible
19:15and, yeah,
19:16just a big congratulations
19:17to the family.
19:17It was lovely to see
19:18the celebration
19:18this last weekend.
19:19When he flew to Miami,
19:21was he sat in the company?
19:22Um,
19:23I think there was
19:24one race.
19:26He was in
19:27premium economy
19:29with all four of them.
19:31His sister Maggie,
19:32his mum and dad.
19:33They were all sitting
19:34in a row
19:35in premium economy
19:36playing Uno.
19:37See,
19:38in that respect,
19:39he probably does look
19:39like a uni student there.
19:40But if he sat anywhere
19:41near business class,
19:42that is not a uni student.
19:44And I say that to
19:44my son who was at university
19:46and no,
19:47you're not getting
19:47business class
19:48next time we go away.
19:50It ain't happening.
19:52Oh dear.
19:53Talking of things
19:54that ain't happening,
19:55there is the visual
19:57representation
19:58of what's going on
19:59at Audi
19:59that Ted told us
20:00all about.
20:01Ted,
20:01you're still outside
20:02the garage.
20:03Yes,
20:03because I have
20:04a kind update
20:05from Pete the PR guy
20:06down here at Audi
20:07who informs me
20:08very nicely.
20:09Pete the PR guy?
20:09Pete the PR.
20:10He's very good at PR
20:11is Pete.
20:12And he's come out
20:13and said that
20:14it's an electrical problem.
20:15So the car just won't
20:17fire up.
20:18That's why I saw
20:19the car with
20:20various bits
20:21of body work on.
20:22They changed
20:22more or less
20:23the whole rear end
20:23of the car
20:24between the sessions.
20:25So great job
20:26by the Audi
20:27boys and girls
20:28the mechanics
20:28down here.
20:29But with this
20:30electrical failure
20:31or problem
20:32they just can't
20:32trace the origin
20:34and Luke will be able
20:35to describe
20:35how complex
20:36these cars are.
20:37It won't work.
20:39It will not fire up.
20:40And that's the long
20:41and short of it.
20:42But he is
20:43as I said earlier
20:44out for the session.
20:46Thanks ever so much
20:47Ted.
20:47That's not good news
20:48at all.
20:49There's a lot of
20:50drivers locking brakes
20:52out on that track.
20:54Not easy
20:55out there today.
20:55And it's actually
20:56I think
20:57if I'm not wrong
20:58there's a tailwind
21:00into turn four
21:00and a crosswind
21:02into T1
21:02so it can be
21:03especially tough
21:04you get a gust
21:04through there one lap
21:05you feel all confident
21:06you come in for lap two
21:07and then
21:08oh I've locked up
21:09the same brake pressure
21:10and that's really
21:10difficult to explain.
21:11A-plus for inside
21:13D-minus for
21:14attempted Portuguese
21:15corner names.
21:17He'll get there.
21:19He's young
21:20you know
21:20he's like
21:20Kimi Antonelli
21:21last year.
21:22You know
21:22he just needs
21:23his experience
21:24he'll come back
21:25into the box
21:25next year
21:26and he will be
21:27fluent.
21:28Talking of next year
21:29your boss
21:30James Vales
21:31I will
21:32mention that
21:32at a moment
21:33this is George
21:33the latest
21:34to lock up
21:35with a gust of wind
21:36and a bump
21:36and whatever.
21:37James Vales
21:38says
21:38you're going
21:39to get some
21:39driving opportunities
21:40outside of F1
21:42next year.
21:42Did you know
21:43about this?
21:43No.
21:45I'm looking forward
21:46to that.
21:46Well you do now.
21:47No I'm only joking
21:48I do
21:49yeah
21:50I've got
21:51nothing I can announce
21:52just yet
21:52but it's going to be
21:53super exciting
21:54and yeah
21:56it was some news
21:56that James passed
21:57on to me
21:57on the pit wall street
21:58after F1.
21:59When you say
21:59super exciting
22:00is that like
22:01a super formula
22:02type thing?
22:04Um
22:05no
22:05but
22:06it's
22:07one series
22:08we can strike out
22:09then Corinne
22:10you'll go next.
22:11He's going to be
22:12going round and round
22:12for 24 hours
22:13or his car will be
22:14I suspect
22:14at some point.
22:16I don't know
22:17I'm not quite sure
22:17what's 24 hours
22:19now we've put him
22:21on the spot
22:21now we've put him
22:23on the spot
22:23why was Kimi Antonelli
22:24going slowly
22:25you ask
22:26maybe
22:27because he's the latest
22:28to lock up
22:28he's a double though
22:30he's snatched the
22:30outside front as well
22:31and just watch there
22:33the bolt
22:34it's just on the bumps
22:35again isn't it
22:35it's on the bumps
22:36into turn one
22:38and I think
22:39particularly a hard tyre
22:40when they haven't got
22:41the grip to absorb
22:42that movement
22:43it's just sort of skating
22:44on the top surface
22:46of the tyre it seems
22:47so what do you do
22:48just break a bit earlier
22:50before the bump
22:51yeah
22:52try and avoid it
22:53as much as you can
22:53but honestly
22:54it depends on the setup
22:55of the car as well
22:55if you're running
22:57especially low
22:58which we know
22:59these cars are this year
23:00with the aerophilosophy
23:01and how the wings drop down
23:02we can run lower now
23:03it's not getting pushed
23:04into the floor as much
23:06it can sometimes mean
23:07you're actually running
23:07stiffer
23:08in the front suspension
23:09so when you hit a bump
23:11it can actually be harder
23:15what a massive
23:17bottom in whatever it was
23:18hey firm yes
23:20looks like
23:20quite a lot
23:21yeah
23:22and we've seen that
23:24from word go
23:25from FP1
23:26the start of that
23:28Kimi Antonelli
23:28has got the fastest time
23:30so far though
23:31he's two tenths clear
23:32of Lando Norris
23:32and Max Verstappen
23:34his teammate
23:34George Russell
23:35is fourth
23:35and Charles Leclerc
23:36is fifth
23:44welcome back to Interlagos
23:45Luke Browning
23:46from Williams
23:47who was driving in
23:48FP1 today
23:49and Karun Chandok
23:50who wasn't
23:51alongside me
23:52in the commentary box
23:52I say that
23:53because I'm still hopeful
23:54that you will get a drive
23:55with Haas
23:56oh no you can't for this season
23:57now because they've used
23:58four drivers
23:58well no
23:59apparently they can apply
24:01for dispensation
24:02I was in big negotiations
24:04with Ayo Kamatu
24:05it wasn't going well
24:07I had a go anyway
24:08I love the fact
24:09and you can't see this
24:10at home I'm afraid
24:11that Luke's face
24:12actually looked like
24:13he thought Karun
24:14was being serious
24:14for one moment there
24:15that is the biggest compliment
24:16you've been paid
24:17for a while
24:17I know it's amazing
24:18hey Karun's a quick driver
24:19I'm telling you
24:20if we stick him out there
24:21for FP1
24:21I think he'd embarrass
24:23some people
24:23I commentated on both
24:24of his wins
24:25in GP2 as well
24:26I can tell you
24:27how quick this man is
24:28you did actually
24:29I found a clip
24:30the other day
24:30of Nine
24:30yeah
24:31had you started
24:33doing F1
24:34at that stage
24:34were you doing
24:34both championships
24:35I was doing both
24:36championships
24:36at that stage
24:37yes
24:37I switched
24:39from one commentary box
24:39to another
24:40just to commentate
24:41on your wins
24:42yeah
24:42my kids actually
24:44I was showing it
24:46to them the other day
24:46because they were like
24:47did you ever win anything
24:48so I was like
24:49hang on you little rascals
24:50so I did
24:52and the first comment
24:53was
24:53why is Crofty
24:54talking about F2
24:56well it was GP2
24:57in those days
24:58it was that long ago
24:59right
24:59George Russell
25:00out on the track
25:01now this is a big
25:02weekend
25:03for George Russell
25:04just to get out there
25:05championships over now
25:06this is about laying down
25:08a market for next season
25:10and in the case of a good
25:12team player
25:12which he always is
25:13helping Mercedes to
25:15construct his championship
25:16which they will do
25:16if they outscore Ferrari
25:18by three points
25:19sounds easy
25:21but it's been a while
25:22since they outscored
25:23Ferrari over the course
25:25of a race
25:26and there's that
25:27there's that weaving
25:28is he
25:29last year
25:30I said
25:30no he's going for
25:31another lap
25:32in terms of preparation
25:33but this year
25:34you want to leave
25:35your real attack
25:38right until the last moment
25:39because you don't want
25:39to waste the battery
25:40absolutely
25:41it's actually not too
25:42energy sensitive
25:42into turn one here
25:44in comparison
25:45to other circuits
25:46what does that mean
25:47Luke
25:47just for people at home
25:48to understand
25:48so when
25:49as you come down the street
25:50you spend your battery pack
25:51it essentially means
25:52you start your pack
25:54with only 80%
25:55in the lap
25:55and obviously
25:56to go the quickest
25:57you want the most amount
25:57of power through the lap
25:58so ideally you start
25:59with 100
26:00but because the braking zone
26:01is quite long
26:02into turn one
26:02it's a long downhill corner
26:04you get back to 100 anyway
26:05so spending a little bit
26:06down the straight is okay
26:07but with the straight
26:08being so long
26:09you still can't deploy
26:10out of the exit
26:11of turn 12
26:11so we're doing it
26:12around T40
26:14so talk about
26:15the middle part
26:15of the lap here
26:16so George's done
26:16a really good
26:17first segment
26:1818-2
26:18that's much more
26:19like what we expect
26:20to see from people
26:21on the soft tyre
26:22right
26:24in Hajar's time
26:24talk to us
26:25what do you think
26:26of this middle part
26:27of the lap
26:27it was incredible
26:29the elevation
26:30of the circuit
26:31it was just surreal
26:32driving it
26:34yeah it was
26:35just as expected
26:36really on the TV screen
26:37with how spectacular
26:38it was to drive
26:39do anything
26:39that would be nicer
26:40to feel it
26:41in a real qualifying
26:42you'll get your chance
26:43one day I hope
26:44so Russell up
26:45to the timeline
26:46and goes comfortably
26:47fast as 11-0
26:48that's more
26:49in the wind
26:50of what we'd expect
26:50Lando Norris
26:51a little bit slower
26:52in the first sector
26:53but only a few hundred
26:55yeah only a few hundred
26:56in it
26:56the same for Lewis
26:57Hamilton
26:58who's gone slightly
26:58quicker
26:59as Liam Lawson
27:01goes fifth fastest
27:02as he crosses
27:03the line
27:03we'll pick up
27:04Lando Norris now
27:05making his way
27:06to Jun Sao
27:06coming out
27:07of Jun Sao
27:08he should get
27:08a really nice
27:09slipstream here
27:10behind Kimi Antonelli
27:11which will help him
27:13all the way up
27:14to the line
27:15there is Antonelli
27:16ahead
27:16punching a hole
27:18in the air
27:19for Lando Norris
27:20to drive through
27:21and as Norris
27:21crosses the line
27:22he goes faster
27:22than George Russell
27:23by just a couple
27:24of hundredths
27:25of a second
27:26a very good
27:27last sector
27:28of a 15-9
27:29right
27:29back to Lewis Hamilton
27:31who might have
27:32a couple of drivers
27:33giving him a slipstream
27:34up the straight
27:35as well
27:35positioning
27:36and timing
27:37can make such
27:38a difference here
27:39on a very short lap
27:40if you can pick up
27:41a toe
27:42behind another driver
27:43by being in the right
27:44place at the right time
27:45it will definitely
27:46pay dividends
27:47Hamilton crosses the line
27:48only third fastest
27:49though
27:49and he's two tenths off
27:50yeah
27:51he looked like
27:51he lost it there
27:52in a straight line
27:53didn't he actually
27:53it was lovely
27:54the way he opened up
27:55the last corner there
27:56that's new this year
27:57this tarmac
27:58you see on the right
27:59down into turn 4
28:00and also into T12
28:01so it's nice to see
28:02him experimenting
28:03with that
28:03I wasn't quite brave enough
28:04I thought it might be
28:05it's just a Verstappen
28:07it's so close
28:07isn't it
28:08six thousandths
28:09wow
28:09yeah
28:09and we got
28:10three different cars
28:11within two hundredths
28:12of a second
28:13at the top of the times
28:14and a fourth
28:15different car
28:15in fourth place
28:17right
28:17on board with
28:18Gabriel Bortoletto
28:20and Kimi Antonelli
28:21going quickest
28:22through the middle sector
28:23Bortoletto crosses the line
28:24fifth fastest
28:26Antonelli
28:26oh
28:27a perfect slipstream
28:29for a brief moment
28:30and then he has to pull out
28:31from behind Alex Albon
28:32and goes quickest
28:33by just over two tenths
28:35of a second
28:35from Lando Norris
28:36first driver
28:37into the one minute tens
28:39this weekend
28:40Ted
28:41where's Charles Leclerc?
28:42he sat in the garage
28:44and I think this is the best weather conditions
28:47at the time
28:47because I think this drizzle
28:49is starting to come in
28:50I can just
28:51between
28:52every thirty seconds
28:53Crofty
28:54I feel a little bit of moisture
28:56on my arms
28:57and my legs
28:57so this drizzle
28:59this mizzle
28:59as you call it
29:00it's midway to drizzle
29:02is just about to start
29:04and so I think
29:05Charles Leclerc
29:05if he wants the best of conditions
29:06has to just get the tyres on
29:08which he's doing at the moment
29:09and get out there
29:10yeah
29:10got to be in it
29:11to win it
29:12or at least take part
29:13in it
29:14we're on board
29:15with Alex Albon
29:16Carlos Sainz is 16th
29:18Luke
29:18just before you leave us
29:20William's chances
29:21this weekend
29:22Q1
29:24excellent
29:25anything out of Q1
29:26I would imagine
29:27is going to be the ambition
29:28we are
29:29yeah
29:29we're pushing
29:30we're trying our best
29:31and yeah
29:32as Alex comes up
29:33to the timeline
29:34we'll see won't we
29:36yeah
29:36stick with us
29:37so we see
29:38Alex Albon
29:39come up to the timing line
29:40this is obviously a car
29:41who had a hydraulic issue
29:42in FB1
29:43so he lost a little bit
29:44of track time there
29:45and he is 18th quickest
29:47so where does that
29:48compare with Carlos
29:49couple of tenths off
29:50Carlos Sainz
29:51yeah
29:51not much at all
29:53on that one
29:53so everyone
29:54bar Charles Leclerc
29:55has gone out
29:56for a soft tyre run
29:57including
29:58Liam Lawson
29:59through Ferragiro
30:00he goes
30:01and Williams
30:01on the right hand side
30:02the coach has sits
30:03in the middle of the tracks
30:04every weekend
30:08I'm not sure about that
30:09he wasn't really
30:09in the middle
30:10what do you think
30:11yeah I'm not so sure
30:12I think maybe
30:15hear about them
30:17not even over driving
30:19he is going through
30:22a very frustrating period
30:23for a Formula 1 driver
30:24at the moment
30:26without the confidence
30:27in the car
30:28so did he do
30:29the second lap
30:30on that tyre
30:31in that case
30:32by his first push
30:33yes I would say so
30:34because he's just
30:35come across the line
30:36to improve
30:37hasn't he
30:38so that must have been
30:39a replay of his
30:40earlier lap
30:40that he aborted
30:41oh dear
30:42yeah
30:44Luke thanks ever so much
30:45for joining us
30:46apparently you are
30:47required elsewhere
30:49I'd have you in here
30:50for the rest of the session
30:51thank you very much
30:51both uncles
30:52cheers my friend
30:53oh by the way
30:54before we go
30:54any more FP1 duties
30:56or is that it
30:57that is it to me
30:58unfortunately
30:59but hopefully next year
31:01we'll see you in Vegas
31:02for a good time
31:03then
31:04you can come out
31:05and enjoy
31:07the delights
31:08of Las Vegas
31:09in a couple of weeks time
31:11so I was looking
31:12at the speed trap figures
31:13you know we saw
31:13Lando Norris
31:14get that slipstream
31:16of Kimi Antonelli
31:16he picked up
31:178 kilometres an hour
31:19compared to Oscar Piastri
31:21so he gained
31:21two tenths of a second
31:22versus Oscar
31:22in just the last sector
31:24so
31:25and that was a decent
31:26I thought a decent lap
31:27from Oscar to be fair
31:27yeah
31:28yeah exactly
31:28you know
31:29I mean look how close
31:30it is behind Antonelli
31:31we've got Norris
31:33Verstappen
31:33Russell Piastri
31:35all on 11 zeros
31:36and Antonelli
31:39is just in a really
31:40really good rhythm here
31:41so George Russell
31:42has gone for another lap
31:44and has decided
31:45to abort that
31:46and is pitting
31:47as you can see
31:48Charles Leclerc
31:49through the first sector
31:50has matched
31:51the 18.2
31:53which is pretty much
31:54the benchmark
31:55for that first sector
31:57so he's a little bit
31:58out of sync
31:58with others
31:59but at least
32:00he's getting his
32:01chance
32:02before any significant
32:03rain does come
32:04the Ferrari should be good
32:05in the middle sector
32:06lots of slow corners
32:07and that smaller turbo
32:09will help him
32:09with the acceleration
32:10and the punch
32:11out of the hairpins
32:12as well
32:12so
32:13I think that's
32:14I'm interested to see
32:15as the weekend unfolds
32:16whether that plays out
32:18he has actually lost time
32:19on this particular lap
32:20and then
32:21he'll get a poor run
32:23up to the line
32:23Charles Leclerc
32:24who sat out
32:25the first practice session
32:26so he is a session
32:27behind the others
32:29oh come on
32:29that hat
32:30should have been
32:31out of the way
32:31yeah Charles
32:32waving his hand
32:33there
32:33he knows
32:35that is
32:35that is poor
32:36from
32:36who is that
32:39the Ferrari junior
32:42should have
32:42should have been told
32:43that Leclerc was coming
32:44and should have stayed
32:45to the left there
32:46yes
32:48it's not deliberate
32:50and the sort of thing
32:51that can happen
32:52on your debut weekend
32:53but not helping
32:54Charles Leclerc
32:55in the slightest
32:56and let's go trackside
32:57Martin Brunnel's
32:58been watching
32:59all of these
33:00fast runs
33:01and he can give us
33:02his verdict
33:02from down
33:03at De Cido de Lago
33:08I can indeed
33:09yeah
33:10and as they come in here
33:11it's very much
33:12an arrive and drive
33:13corner
33:14the Williams
33:15steaming in
33:15they're still shifting
33:17so slightly uphill
33:18under braking
33:19we see the cars
33:19sparking like crazy
33:21white flag showing here
33:22to tell drivers
33:24there's a slow car
33:25ahead of them
33:26let's see what
33:27the Red Bull looks like
33:28watch it under braking
33:29sparking like crazy
33:30it's had jar
33:31and as soon as he feels
33:32the front end of the car
33:34load up
33:34on the steering wheel
33:36then they start to
33:37pick up the throttle
33:38and down
33:38down down
33:39just making sure
33:40you go
33:41in one direction
33:42on the throttle pedal
33:43and not start
33:43play with it
33:44because that then
33:45moves the car around
33:46moves the aerodynamics
33:48around a little bit
33:49but
33:50towards this end
33:51of the season
33:51wow
33:52have they got these
33:53cars well sorted out
33:54I mean they really
33:56do look supremely
33:58stable coming in there
34:00we did see Lewis
34:00come in and lock
34:01both front wheels
34:03momentarily
34:04and still managed
34:05to sweep into the corner
34:06you can see the
34:09surface change
34:10in the middle
34:11of the corner there
34:11they were talking about
34:12Luke was talking about
34:14you know
34:14what will that be like
34:16if we've got a wet
34:16quality
34:17or a wet race
34:18where's the grip
34:20going to be
34:21it'll be on the old
34:22part
34:22or if the new part
34:24is it bedded in enough
34:25or is there still some
34:26resin coming up
34:27that'll make it
34:28slipperier than a
34:29slippery thing
34:29come race day
34:31in the normal line
34:33in
34:33to this corner
34:34but this grandstand
34:37has always been
34:38a very powerful
34:39grandstand
34:40of Brazilian fans
34:42up there
34:42usually voiciferous
34:44as well
34:44they've got a great view
34:45as we see
34:46Charles Leclerc
34:47still pounding
34:48round in the front
34:49rides a little bit
34:50runs a little bit
34:52wide on the exit
34:53then they spark again
34:54I can smell the cars
34:56out here
34:57as they're hitting
34:58the ground
34:59under braking
35:00and the dust
35:01is coming up
35:02from underneath
35:03and he's going to
