00:00The only thing going through my mind was, find this guy, get Natalie, bring her home.
00:06That was it.
00:07I don't know what parts of that are true, but I knew that he knew what happened to her.
00:14And I decided right then and there, tag, you're it.
00:19Call it mother's intuition.
00:20Natalie Holloway's mom, Beth, said she knew in her gut from the moment she met her daughter's
00:24killer that he was guilty.
00:26It's one of the many revelations in Netflix's chilling new docuseries, Taken, Natalie Holloway.
00:31It was a media firestorm for years after Natalie, an 18-year-old high school graduate from Alabama,
00:37vanished on a Caribbean vacation.
00:39She was last seen on May 30, 2005, getting into a car with then-17-year-old Joran Vandersloot
00:46and two other men.
00:47But it would take nearly two more decades for him to confess to the gruesome crime.
00:51In the new doc, Natalie's mom revealed that she rushed to Aruba as soon as her little girl
00:55went missing and confronted the teen killer at his home with his father present.
01:00His story about dropping her back off at the hotel didn't hold up.
01:03Could Natalie be in that trunk?
01:06Could she be in that Vandersloot home?
01:09I'm clutching her picture.
01:12And I just said, give her back now.
01:15And he said, what do you want me to do?
01:17And he kept hitting his chest.
01:19What do you want me to do?
01:20In another surprising turn, we learned why it took so long to arrest Vandersloot,
01:2410 days after Natalie went missing.
01:26Police say he changed his story 40 times when questioned.
01:29The police chief at the time said normally underage suspects break under pressure, but not Joran.
01:35He liked being the dominant one, the center of attention.
01:37Adding to the complications was the media frenzy, and Vandersloot's father, Paul,
01:42an attorney on the path to becoming a judge in the island country.
01:45Paul allegedly told his son, if there's no body, there's no crime.
01:50On September 3rd, 2005, Joran was released due to lack of evidence.
01:54So how did they eventually catch him?
01:56Well, Beth Holloway never stopped fighting for her daughter.
01:59In fact, it was an extortion and wire fraud case that brought him to justice.
02:03In 2010, Vandersloot sent Beth's lawyer an email alleging he could bring them to Natalie
02:08in exchange for $250,000.
02:11They played along, and eventually the FBI extradited him from Peru to Alabama,
02:16where he was convicted of murdering another young woman,
02:20Peruvian business student Stephanie Flores Ramirez.
02:22She was 21.
02:24Natalie's friend Madison Greer was furious that there was another victim.
02:28I remember being angry.
02:29This could have been prevented, she said.
02:31In 2023, Vandersloot finally confessed under a polygraph
02:35to bludgeoning Natalie to death on a beach in Aruba.
02:38Her body was washed out to sea and never found.
02:40In exchange for the information, Vandersloot's plea deal
02:43allowed him to serve concurrent sentences.
02:45He's currently behind bars in Peru.
02:48Take In, Natalie Holloway is now streaming on Netflix.
