The first One Day International between India and Sri Lanka, scheduled for December 13, has been moved from Delhi to Visakhapatnam. The venue change follows a formal request by the Delhi and District Cricket Association to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Authorities cited planned renovation work at the Arun Jaitley Stadium alongside potential weather disruptions in the national capital during December as reasons for relocating the fixture. The development comes amid recurring concerns regarding worsening winter air quality in Delhi, which has previously impacted sporting events.

00:00Latest news break coming in, something that will deeply embarrass us,
00:05especially where the national capital of the country is concerned
00:08amidst worsening air in Delhi.
00:10India versus Sri Lanka match has now been postponed.
00:12First ODI between India and Sri Lanka, which was to be played on December 13th,
00:17has now been shifted from Delhi to Vishakhapatnam.
00:20The venue change has been made following a request
00:22from the Delhi and District Cricket Association.
00:25All of this in view of the potential weather disruptions
00:28and the proposed renovation work at the stadium.
00:30Deeply embarrassing coming in that Delhi hasn't been able to fix its air quality
00:36because viewers, this is really not the first time that a sporting event has been cancelled
00:40or postponed, shifted in the national capital due to its terrible air quality.
00:47I'm joined right now by my colleague Nitin Srivastava,
00:50who's going to give us details on what has really ensued.
00:53Nitin, deeply embarrassing for the national capital
00:57that we cannot host a match coming in December due to our air quality with Sri Lanka.
01:03Not the first time that a match in Delhi has been cancelled or postponed due to its air quality.
01:10Well, the first match between India and Sri Lanka has been postponed or you may say that it has been
01:17shifted
01:17from Delhi to YSAG.
01:19Why? Because the DDCA had requested BCCI to shift the venue
01:23because the stadium is going under renovation.
01:27That is something that is primarily the reason of shifting this first match between India and Sri Lanka.
01:33And secondly, BCCI in the media release there mentioned that it's also one more reason is there that is weather
01:41disruption in the month of December.
01:44So you can say, you know, the main reason of shifting this game is the Arun Jaitli stadium renovation
01:49because it was already planned in December that the stadium will go under renovation.
01:55And as far as the schedule of this tournament is concerned, it was well planned before.
02:00You know, in the month of March, BCCI announced the domestic fixtures in Sri Lanka tournament was already there.
02:06But at this time, when the, you know, DDCI decided the stadium needs renovation, they requested BCCI please shift this
02:13game to another venue.
02:15And after consultation with all the office bearers, BCCI decided to move this game.
02:19That is what the main reason is.
02:22Well, that is also deeply embarrassing for the national capital because this is not the first time.
02:26You can go back in history and we've had earlier occasions where sporting events have been moved, shifted, postponed, cancelled
02:34from the national capital during these months where Delhi's air quality is abysmal.
02:41All right. Thank you, Nitin, for joining us.
