00:02Binance says hackers used fake job interviews, malicious software, and compromised internal AI
00:09tools to steal more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency during an October 29th cyber attack,
00:15according to CNBC. Co-CEO Richard Tang said the attackers spent months infiltrating the
00:21exchange's wallet infrastructure. The hackers first targeted an engineer in June with a fake
00:27developer tool. In September, they posed as recruiters and used a coding exercise to install
00:32malware on another engineer's device. Tang did not blame North Korea for the attack,
00:38but acknowledged that the FBI linked it to North Korean hackers associated with the Trader
00:43Trader Group. Tang said Binance has replenished 98% of the $6.34 billion in affected assets.
00:51The exchange has also rebuilt its wallet system, replaced compromised devices,
00:56and pledged to cover all customer losses. For all things money, visit benzinga.com.
