In the past six hours, 94% of Brits have spoken about the weather. In the past five years, 7000 Brits have been arrested for speaking out about the climate crisis. This short film, starring Michael Sheen, has been developed with young farmers and colleges in rural Norfolk. It questions why it’s so hard for us to have meaningful conversations about climate change. Told through the eyes of a child grappling with climate anxiety, the film explores the cost of British small talk and encourages audiences to elevate their daily habits into tools for meaningful change.

00:00Talk of a proper winter night, isn't there?
00:03Hoping it'll be strong enough to blow up the cobwebs from between Ardeen's ear holes.
00:06Can't keep up.
00:07Ardeen says it's going to be proper blustery down up the top of that frost.
00:11All the days stood out on that cold.
00:14Oh, didn't pay me enough.
00:15Last week, the sun's out.
00:17I was outside with a cardigan watching my bed sheets dry.
00:20This week, we're hammering down the fences and chasing a pair of pants around the garden
00:24because they've blown off the line.
00:26I tried to catch them in this moment.
00:28When a child questions weather and why the wind stitches the town's talk together.
00:35It is a moment I find caught between swings and whistling hymns, raspberry jam and bookbag.
00:44And steel.
00:48Like a soil-twined piper, I guide their wellington toes to tip over cobbled roads and into...
00:56Earth.
01:00And watch the plastic of their mind.
01:03Forget their mother's washing hanging on the line.
01:06And not, instead, with fear of the moss-swollen man whose straw-picked limbs shows how wind will gnaw its
01:17skin and rot.
01:19But as I see their childhood breaking, their summer and school days shaking, I pluck them from the Earth like
01:32a fruit.
01:35And I wait for their learning lips to tell me how the wind blew the cobwebs from their head.
01:41How they caught the caution that was thrown there.
01:44How they're glad their funny face didn't get stuck there.
01:47And that's the moment I'm after.
01:53That parroted song passed along their family's tongue and whistled.
02:00Because then, I invite the ground to speak.
02:04Watch it rise as earthen roots clench around their boots and bound us in honesty to land's truth.
02:12Showing that wind is not just a thing to feel in your hair or put fear in the air but
02:16listen to.
02:17Because lost inside its howling is a found thing that speaks, warns of uncharted greed and supermarkets that feed on
02:25glut.
02:26It screams that even though we have more than enough fields, their flash sales and deals are making a meal
02:32of this earth.
02:33And if we don't listen to these dwindling yields, then we only have 60 harvests left.
02:45In England.
02:47And it hurts when they ask how the world turned the wind's warning silent.
02:54And I have to muck up their mother's head.
03:00Buried in the sand, still gaggling with gossip of wind and rain and washing lines.
03:06And like weeds around her, I pull up the village.
03:10Postmen and teachers, lawyers and bakers, doctors, lawmakers and butchers.
03:14Those who know that the earth is breaking, shaking, trying to wake a sleeping thing inside them.
03:20But they only sip storms from their teacups.
03:23Biscuits down, their knees up.
03:24They use it, refuse it, suck, pluck and abuse it.
03:28Talking as if they don't know that we are going to lose it.
03:31Our land.
03:34The barren and blistering rose that they have let their glasses tint beyond.
03:41And it's them.
03:43Those that taught us tongues they said were polite, that have stripped us of our right,
03:49arrested us even though we had no other choice but to fight.
03:53And somehow, we're having to say sorry because we thought this proudly British lot might want to talk about the
04:02weather.
04:04So, these kids might seem quiet, scared or rude to you.
04:12But really, they know what they need to do.
04:15We're keeping our fingers crossed and puffing, puffing, puffing.
04:17Because their dreams will only come together when this earth starts to heal for the better.
04:25And I'm sorry for hammering the point home, but they can't do that until you start to really talk about
04:35the weather.
04:39It rained off last year and she hasn't stopped talking about it since.
04:42The grounds are down my throat right, so I've forgotten to put springtime heat wave in my shopping list at
04:47the same time.
04:48Why does everything I can be doing to control that the sky button?
04:51Why does she expect me to be able to snap my fingers and make the weather change?
