The body Indian murder victim Nitin Garg arrived in his hometown of Jagraon, Punjab. Friends and family members have gathered to perform funeral rites.

The 21-year-old student was stabbed to death last week while on his way to work in Melbourne. His relatives hope there won't be further attacks of this nature against Indian students in Australia.

[Rajkumar Garg, Victim’s Uncle]:
"If in the future something of this sort will never happen again, then we’ll think that our son was sacrificed for a good cause.”

The Australian government says the Melbourne police are doing everything they can to find his killers and bring them to justice.

[Tim Huggins, Australian High Commission, New Delhi]:
"We are here to express from the Australian government and from Australian people, condolences to the family. And how sad this has happened. The only other thing I would like to say today is that you can be rest assured that the Australian authorities are working very hard to find the culprits who did this and once they are caught, they will be punished with the full force of the law."

But racist attacks against the Indian community are still ongoing in Melbourne. 29-year-old Jaspreet Singh was attacked last Saturday night. He was set alight by four men whilst parking his car and is now recovering in hospital.
