opening post on After the Alpha's Cruel Trials, and this is a show about where power actually sits.
An alpha in this world is not a king. He does not rule by decree. He rules because the pack keeps agreeing, and the agreement is renewed in small public moments — who gets asked, who gets listened to, who gets a vote.
Which means his authority is a loan, and the pack is the lender.
That is why the trials matter more than they look. A trial is the pack rehearsing a decision out loud. Every time they decide she does not count, they are also confirming that he is allowed to let her not count.
So when the pack's mood shifts, his power shifts with it. He never notices, because he has never had to.
The scene where he finally tries to use authority he no longer has is not a plot twist. It is arithmetic catching up.
