00:00What's going on with the machines?
00:02They're taking the ballots.
00:04Oh, are they going to be able to fix them?
00:11Hi. I'm sorry.
00:12Are they going to be able to fix the machines?
00:15Oh, we ain't got to do with that.
00:16What's the number of board elections?
00:18995-5700.
00:19So what did they say to you?
00:21I mean...
00:22They're going to send somebody.
00:23So they're going to fix every machine in every voting place?
00:26Yeah.
00:27They ain't got to cross.
00:28In one day?
00:29That's what they said.
00:31Okay.
00:32Hey, how you say?
00:33We nobody.
00:34How did you find out about it?
00:36I called the Board of Elections.
00:37Oh, and how did you find out they weren't working?
00:40We called the Board of Elections.
00:41Oh, but somebody must have come and tried to use it and it didn't work.
00:45Okay. All right. Thank you so much.
00:48Hi, everybody.
00:48We're here at a polling site in Ossining.
00:51We've been made aware from the Westchester County Board of Elections
00:55and there is an issue with the scanners countywide.
00:58It has to do with the thickness of the ballot paper.
01:01Rest assured, every ballot will be counted.
01:04That's a commitment from the State Board of Elections and the County Board of Elections.
01:09They will be able to scan ballots later.
01:11Your vote matters.
01:14Your vote will be counted and protected.
01:16So please keep coming out to the polls.
01:19The situation is under control, but we're encouraging all our voters to come out to the polls and continue to
01:26vote.
01:26We're not saying come back later.
01:28The Board of Elections has been working to fix this issue while at the same time allowing people to vote.
01:35Voters at the polling locations today will fill out their ballot as they would normally do it.
01:39They come in, they get a ballot, make sure they're registered, they sign in, they get a paper ballot, they
01:44go, they do their vote.
01:46And then when they get to the scanner, they'll be directed by the poll inspectors to do something.
01:53Sometimes that's to put it into an orange bag.
01:55The ones that go into the orange bags, are they going to be counted on-site at those polling sites
02:02or are they going to go somewhere else?
02:03Right now that is what the Board of Elections, the State and the County Board of Elections folks are determining.
02:08Because right now the law is that those ballots are considered emergency ballots.
02:13So those emergency ballots, if they don't go in the machine, they'll automatically determine there's emergency ballots and they can't
02:18be counted by law until after 9 o'clock at night.
02:20And certainly because of the activity that we had in the elections this year, there's just a tremendous number of
02:26people that are voting, which is a great thing.
02:30So the Board of Elections is trying to determine whether or not the centralized opportunity is better than people having
02:36that on-site.
02:37As we all know, the election results on an evening are always unofficial for just that reason.
02:42So we don't have that determination.
02:43They will tell us what they're doing.
02:47Is there any sense how many people have to vote that way so far?
02:51This morning, at about midday, I heard that there were 57,000 votes that had occurred.
03:00So maybe that was the 11 o'clock number.
03:03So 57,000 people voted for early voting comparison.
03:07For the nine days, we had 120,000 people vote in early voting.
03:11So that was about 28% of the vote at that time.
03:14It's going to continue to move on in that direction with the huge number of people that want to participate
03:20in this year's election.
