00:00We continue in the U.S. to keep analyzing the political and social landscape surrounding these midterm elections.
00:07Joining us now is our correspondent Jorge Estoso. Hello Jorge, welcome to From the South.
00:15Ana, we were just going around the city of Washington, Washington District of Columbia, where we are reporting from.
00:24You can see behind me the Capitol, the Congress. Precisely in a few hours, we're going to get a sense
00:32of how close the polls were regarding what we were expecting to be the results.
00:40We were watching and going through different parts of Washington, D.C., and what we see was total calm, total
00:49organization that was very, very quiet.
00:52There was no long lines in the polling places because, as of today, about 59 million Americans voters have already
01:05cast their votes,
01:06so not necessarily people were waiting until the last minute to do it in person today.
01:12What we are going to wait is about two hours and 20 minutes, and at least six polling places since
01:21states of the U.S. are going to be closing,
01:24and we're going to start to get a sense of the trend that this, I would say that it's a
01:32historic, a historic day in the U.S. history is going to bring, if it's going to be a tsunami,
01:40as some of them said about Democrats gaining huge terrain in the Congress, meaning the House of Representatives and also
01:50the Senate also, there are 22 out of 36 governorships that,
01:55according to the polls, the Democrats are definitely the favorites, and what we also have seen is that there's a
02:07lot of action trying to impede,
02:10and we're talking about the levels of the Department of Justice, but we're talking about the Supreme Court, and also
02:16inspectors, for example, in the state of,
02:20we're talking the state of Georgia, there are about a hundred and more than a hundred inspectors going through to
02:29make sure that there's no irregularities going on.
02:32What we could expect some problems will be in other states where the President Trump believes that could be in
02:39trouble,
02:40and therefore the strategy, according to the Washington Post, is to start litigations.
02:46There's a lot of expectations, only over two more hours, and we are going to start to get the feel
02:55of what is going to be ahead tonight.
02:58We'll get back to you, Ana.
03:00Thank you very much Jorge for the information, we'll be in touch during the day for more information about these
03:07midterm elections.
