00:10Thunderbolts will finally get to the big potato stuff in the second movie so hear me out for a
00:14second here. So there was this surprise live stream from Marvel Studios back in March that
00:19confirmed something pretty exciting because it revealed that all of the main cast from
00:23Thunderbolts are coming back for Avengers Doomsday with the only exceptions being a Julia Louis
00:28Dreyfus and Olga Kurilenko and that's a huge deal because it shows that Marvel is really invested
00:34in this team and wants to keep them in the spotlight for the big crossover event. The
00:38post-credits scene from Thunderbolts basically set all of this up directly because we saw
00:43the Fantastic Four spaceship entering the MCU's main universe which is Earth 616 and it seems
00:50like they're escaping from their own reality after whatever goes down in the Fantastic
00:54four first steps. So that pretty much confirms that the Thunderbolts stars will be playing their Earth
00:59616 versions rather than some multiverse variants which keeps things nice and grounded. Now we don't
01:06know exactly what role the Thunderbolts or the new Avengers as they might be called will play in
01:11Avengers Doomsday but Kevin Feige has confirmed that they'll be joining up with other super teams to
01:16face off against Doom. So there's going to be this big convergence of heroes which is always exciting to
01:22see. But here's the interesting part because the ending of Thunderbolts suggested that there might
01:27be some friction between the new Avengers and the team that Sam Wilson is trying to put together
01:32and that sets up this really cool dynamic going into Doomsday. It's going to be fascinating to see
01:38how these different groups interact and whether they can put aside their differences to take on a
01:43common threat. And if they follow the trend set by Thunderbolts there's a good chance they'll emerge
01:48unscathed even though they're clearly the underdogs in this fight which would be pretty satisfying to
01:54watch. But let's talk about Spider-Man for a minute because after a brand new day Peter Parker seems
02:00more ready than ever to join an MCU team. The movie ends with him visiting Aunt May's grave and he
02:06makes
02:06this promise to her that he's going to stop living his life so isolated and alone which is a really
02:11big
02:11moment for his character. We see him letting detective Gene DeWolf handle a bank robbery
02:16without him and he also chooses to reconnect with Ned so there's this clear shift towards opening himself
02:22up to other people again. And that has some bigger implications because Spider-Man might start being
02:28more comfortable accepting help from other heroes and joining larger teams in the MCU. It doesn't
02:34necessarily mean he'll become a card carrying member of the new Avengers right away but he definitely seems to be
02:40in a much better place to start joining bigger groups of heroes. And with Avengers Doomsday and
02:45Secret Wars right around the corner the timing couldn't be better for him to step into that larger role.
02:51Even though Spider-Man might be more comfortable doing the small potato heroics he's always been
02:57capable of the big potato stuff and the difference now is that he seems to have finally reached a better
03:02emotional place where he'll be more willing to enter those big potato spaces from time to time.
03:07He might not be officially confirmed for Doomsday and Secret Wars just yet but my fingers are definitely
03:13crossed because seeing him interact with the Thunderbolts and other heroes would be absolutely
03:18amazing. Spider-Man brand new day is now playing in theaters from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures
03:24so you can go check it out and see this new chapter for yourself. Now let's circle back to Thunderbolts
03:30because there's a lot to appreciate about how this movie came together. The thing that made Thunderbolts
03:35seemed like it was going to be a flop was the fact that it focused on a group of characters
03:40who were
03:40either secondary heroes or outright villains and that made it hard to market and get people into
03:46the theater. There wasn't a Deadpool, a Captain Marvel or a Thor to lead the way so it felt like
03:52a
03:52bit of a gamble but this unexpected cast of characters actually worked in the film's favor because it
03:58brought together several post-Avengers Endgame storylines in a really organic way. Yelena Belova is
04:04probably the most fleshed out and best character introduced after Endgame so putting the focus
04:09on her was a smart move because the audience was already attached to her. And the same goes for
04:15Bucky Barnes who basically functions as the second lead of the film because fans have followed his
04:20journey for years. Adding John Walker was also really important because it made his introduction in
04:26The Falcon and the Winter Soldier feel more meaningful and it picked up on the thread of where he went
04:31after his failed time as Captain America. Alexei, Yelena's adoptive daughter, also gets to continue
04:38his story that started in Black Widow which gives his character more depth and development. And one of
04:44the most important pieces tying everything together is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine because she's been a
04:50recurring character across multiple projects from Hawkeye to Black Panther Wakanda Forever with some
04:55intriguing intentions. She puts the team together. It gets revealed that she is the one who purchased
05:01Avengers Tower and she is the one with the power to ultimately name the team The Avengers. Her shady
05:07motivations make her feel really different from the likes of Nick Fury, so she adds this interesting
05:12layer of mystery and unpredictability to the whole operation. What really makes the Thunderbolts work
05:18though is that the team feels like a family. When the original Avengers came together for their 2012
05:24movie, they mostly didn't know each other and had to develop their relationships from scratch. But one
05:30of the best things about Thunderbolts is that this was the first meeting of the titular group, so they
05:35get to form a bond before we see them officially become the Avengers, and that allows this to feel
05:40different from what we had in the past. The original Avengers are indeed a powerful team, but they never
05:46really felt like a family the way the Guardians of the Galaxy did. The Thunderbolts have built on that
05:51Guardians model because this is a group of broken people who come together and only get through their
05:56adventure because they rely on each other and relate to one another. They overcome a powerful enemy
06:02because they work together, and a group hug is literally what saves them, which is such a beautiful
06:07sentiment that makes us, as the audience, care more about this unit. Most of us didn't think we'd grow to
06:13love the Thunderbolts, yet by the time Avengers Doomsday rolls around, their bond has been firmly
06:19established, which makes us care about what happens to them. As noted, we now care about these characters,
06:25which wasn't what many of us expected going in. Yelena and Bucky had developed backstories that we got
06:31to see showcased across several movies and TV shows, so fans came into the film already knowing and loving
06:37them. But the rest of the group was harder to develop, and yet the film managed to pull it off.
06:42John Walker was only known as basically the bad Captain America who killed a man on live TV,
06:48but we see him become a friend to this group, and we empathize with him as he's lost his family.
06:53Yes, they left him because of his own actions, but he's working toward redemption. The same goes for
06:59Alexei, who was good in Black Widow, but we'd mostly only seen him as the guy who allowed bad things
07:05to
07:05happen to his adoptive daughters. Thunderbolts allowed him to crack more jokes and be more of a father
07:10figure to Yelena, which really rounds out his character in a satisfying way. So, with all of this
07:16set up, it's clear that Marvel is building toward something big with the Thunderbolts, and the prospect
07:22of a second movie where they really get to dive into the big potato stuff is incredibly exciting. The
07:27foundation has been laid, the characters are in place, and the audience is invested, so now it's just a matter
07:33of
07:33seeing where the story goes from here.
07:36And that's that for today's video.
