00:00 I don't think there's anybody else in the world that is doing what I do.
00:05 I try to capture the expressions so that they're smiling or look like they're saying something.
00:12 A lot of people think it's AI, which is obviously not.
00:16 I felt like it was like a mission from God. I just had to do it.
00:21 My name is Jonny Kappa. I live in Gothenburg, Sweden.
00:26 15 years ago, I got interested in photography.
00:30 I started out shooting concerts, but during the pandemic, I didn't have anything else but the squirrels.
00:36 It became the only thing.
00:38 There was this open land, and then when I walked into it, I felt like I had walked into a
00:44 fairy land.
00:45 It felt magical. It was so beautiful, serene, calm.
00:51 And there was a lot of squirrels, a lot of birds.
00:54 I just thought, this is the place.
00:56 I started to be more in the moment, not just listening to music or podcasts.
01:03 So I started to enjoy it a lot more.
01:06 When I bought these cameras, I was in awe.
01:09 I felt like I had to watch every second, not to miss anything because of all the details.
01:16 You know, it's a lot of small ideas to get where I am today.
01:21 I like chaos in my photography.
01:24 When it's something that you can't plan, you can plan for it, but you can't plan it.
01:29 So I like the surprise element.
01:32 I started out with putting out hazelnuts, walnuts, and sitting away back.
01:39 Then I noticed one day the food ran out.
01:43 And then the squirrel came up to me to tell me, hey, I need a refill.
01:47 Then I realized, wow, I could probably sit a lot closer.
01:52 That's kind of what sets my photography apart from most other squirrel photographers.
01:57 I would think that they recognize me.
02:00 But if I buy new equipment, they get very suspicious.
02:04 They don't want to come up until they've checked everything out.
02:08 It's just a split second to take the photo that I want.
02:12 It's a rare occasion that they pose for me.
02:15 So you have to be super fast.
02:18 It's very magical.
