Thirty kids get the second question today. He repeats their own answer back before he grades it. That's his job, and he's good at it.
His son held up a drawing. He said "nice" without looking up. The kid put it in the trash himself, no fuss, just gone.
Looking up costs half a second. He can name what's actually in the drawing instead of what he assumes is in it. The skill he uses on thirty strangers by noon is the same skill his own kid needed once, for ten seconds, at home.
Presence isn't a mood. It's a habit he already has. He's just pointing it the wrong direction.
