00:07Hi guys, I'm Chloe with Refinery29 and today we're going to take a simple pencil skirt
00:11and give it a chic makeover.
00:13Chances are you have one at the back of your closet and today we're going to put a little
00:17twist on it.
00:18So let's get started.
00:19What you'll need is a plain flat front pencil skirt, a pen, a tape measure, some gems, scissors
00:26and fabric glue.
00:28We're going to be making a slit on the left side of the skirt so go ahead and try it
00:31on first and make a mark where you would like the slit to be at the top.
00:35Take your tape measure up to the spot you marked and we're going to do ours about two and a
00:41half inches wide and make some marks.
00:44Next you'll want to turn the tape measure lengthwise and make some marks going down.
00:51Then I'm going to go to the other side and just make sure I'm doing them evenly.
00:57So next take your scissors and start cutting up the skirt.
01:00If your skirt has a liner, we'll cut that next.
01:09So once you've cut out your slit, there might be some fraying edges so I'm going to go ahead
01:13and just put a little bit of glue in my finger and run it down the edge to make sure
01:17that
01:17it stays.
01:19And mine has a lining so I'm going to go ahead and cut that out right now too.
01:21And I'm going to cut a little bit farther in so we don't see it.
01:25You don't have to be super even because you're not going to see this.
01:28Then you'll want to hold it up and kind of see if you've got all the lining out of the
01:34way.
01:34So for the next step, you want to take your jewels and arrange them how you'd like on
01:38the edges.
01:39We're going to give ours a little bit of an art deco feel.
01:41And you'll want to choose gems that are not that heavy so it doesn't weigh the skirt down.
01:46So next, take your fabric glue and start gluing them on.
01:52And now once it's dried, you can try it on and you have a great new skirt with a little
01:57Angelina Dolly leg attitude.
