We have a love-hate relationship with exfoliation. We're obsessed with the results: baby-soft skin, clean pores, that elusive lit-from-within glow... The list goes on. But, in our heart of hearts, we're all about #lazygirlbeauty — and, unfortunately, exfoliating regularly and properly can be seriously hard work. So much that we've been known to go straight to the salon pros for all of our skin-sloughing-off needs — until now.

When a device landed on our desks that promised to sweep away our dead skin cells and get us glowing — all in the comfort of home — we jumped at the chance to give it a try. Our associate beauty editor Tara wiped off her makeup and got down to business. Will this high-tech helper forever change the exfoliation game? Check it out in action, above.

00:07Today in the Beauty Test Lab, I'm trying out the Rodan and Fields Redefine Macro Exfoliator.
00:13It's supposed to create professional level exfoliating results by removing the outer layer
00:17of your skin for a brighter, smoother skin tone, so let's see if it works.
00:22So I'm starting with clean, dry, totally bare skin just for you guys, no makeup.
00:27To start, you just turn on the tool and it gives you instructions on where to exfoliate when,
00:34so you start with your cheeks.
00:37It kind of like suctions your face.
00:41Okay, I don't like this. Just the action of it suctioning my face is like making it red.
00:46So I definitely believe in when you're starting any kind of a new skin regimen,
00:50especially if it's something that's exfoliating or if it has a really active ingredient like an acid,
00:55patch testing at first, so rather than do my whole face with this,
00:58I'm just going to let these sections chill out and I'm going to use this cooling gel
01:03that they've included in the kit to see if the redness calms out.
01:06So I let the gel sit on my face for about 10 minutes and the redness is almost completely gone,
01:12which is really great. And this section of my face where I exfoliated is definitely smoother than this side,
01:18so I would definitely say that it works. I was definitely a little freaked out by the whole suctioning to
01:23your face
01:23and dragging it across thing, but what some people have told me, that's just how it's done.
01:28So if you've had that treatment before and you'd like to do it at home,
01:31then this would be a great product for you.
