Using royal icing, beads (both edible and non!) and some creative watercolor, Zilberman created a few textured, blingy, baroque eggs that'd look spectacular as a centerpiece to any Easter celebration you may attend this weekend. Trust — this isn't your typical from-a-box decor. These eggs are good enough to display at Versailles (though the jewels that Marie Antoinette would use probably come from her vault and not, say, the baking aisle at Whole Foods).

00:03Hi, I'm Mayan. Today's project is special for Easter. I'm going to be decorating eggs in the
00:09style of Versailles. It's inspired by a cake that I made for a wedding. For this project,
00:14you'll need a piece of styrofoam, hard-boiled eggs, watered-down paint, a paintbrush, one
00:19chopstick, royal icing, and edible or non-edible beads. What you want to do first is use some of
00:26your watered-down paint while holding your egg over your tray. You're just going to lightly brush
00:30the egg with paint. The paint's going to go on really thin, and it's going to look like it's
00:34not really getting on the egg, but it's actually staining the eggshell. It makes a really nice
00:38effect. You might want to do one or two coats. For this project, I chose light blue, a peach,
00:44and a black. I figured Marie Antoinette would probably like those colors. If you want to make
00:49sure that you're not going to stain your hands while you're painting these eggs, you'll want to
00:52wear gloves. No one wants a messy manicure. You want to let the eggs dry for about two
00:56minutes. It dries really quickly since the egg shell is so absorbent. While these newly painted
01:01eggs are drying, it probably takes about two minutes, I'm going to set these to the side
01:04and take some of my dry ones to start decorating. I use a piece of styrofoam with a little dent
01:09that I just knead in so that they don't roll around. Your next step is to use the royal icing,
01:15and you're going to just do some freestyle painting right on the egg, just like a cake.
01:19The icing dries really quickly, so you need to work fast. It's perfect for a last-minute project.
01:25You might want to use a chopstick to act as your tool. Just put a little bit of icing on
01:29your dish
01:30and dab the chopstick into it, just like a little piece of glue, and that's going to pick up the
01:35little jewels for you, like that. And then you can place them wherever you want. The icing takes about
01:40two or three minutes to dry. You want to make sure it's rock hard before you pick it up. I
01:44let this one
01:45dry, and I'm just going to turn it around so I could decorate the other side. Now that they've finished
01:49drying, I can arrange them for the table. My favorite way of displaying eggs is on vintage candlesticks.
01:56And there you have it, a new way of decorating your eggs like Versailles.
