00:20I started makeup about a bit less than 20 years ago.
00:26I kind of rolled into it in a very organic way.
00:29I started studying fashion in Antwerp at the Academy.
00:33And there was a whole young generation that started coming up like the Antwerp 6.
00:39It was very exciting in those days.
00:41I didn't really want to make any collections or become a fashion designer,
00:44but I really wanted to do something in fashion.
00:47I made a choice after I graduated to focus on makeup and I became a makeup artist.
00:53The fact that I studied fashion design helps me to get into the mind of a designer.
00:59I mean, it's very interesting, for example, when I work together with a designer,
01:03like for example with Raf, and when we have to design a look for a show.
01:06So it's always a teamwork.
01:09Raf started telling me the stories about all the inspirations, which are historical,
01:12but at the same time futuristic.
01:14And I said, I can give you a look which is what you want, like something very natural,
01:19something very nude almost.
01:22But I would like to add an element which is in contrast to that,
01:26because it might help to make this total look complete.
01:30You've got this natural girl and then you've got this sharp mirrored eyeliner.
01:34And that's how the look was born.
01:37You know, it's just by listening and by getting all the elements together.
01:41And the great thing is, because of my role as creative director at Dior,
01:43I'm actually able to produce those in a few months.
01:46It will be on the counter and everybody can actually buy themselves a razor sharp mirrored eyeliner,
01:52like the girls at the couture show.
01:54So, yeah, it's fun.
01:59Modern beauty is very flexible.
02:01A modern woman doesn't take dictation anymore.
02:05She's not waiting to hear what magazines tell her to do.
02:11A modern woman is a free woman.
02:13She makes her choices herself, but she likes to be informed.
02:16I have to seduce women now.
02:17I can't dictate.
02:19I can't tell them what to wear.
02:20I can't tell them because she wouldn't accept it.
02:24And it's up to me to seduce her with creations, with products,
02:28and to offer her a palette.
02:30That, for me, is the base of modern beauty.
02:32That, for me, is the base of modern beauty.
