Blowdrying your hair at home is hard work. Properly blowdrying your hair at home, however, is even harder — it takes serious coordination, arm strength, and a hell of a lot of patience. But, for those of us without the ability to afford weekly salon appointments, befriending the dryer is a necessary evil: We wake up a little earlier, grab our brushes and our leave-in conditioners, and pray for a good hair day.

00:05Today I'm going to teach you some blow-drying tips to get maximum volume for your hair.
00:10This is my friend Katie, so I'm going to damp it down and I'm going to show you how I
00:14section it off where everyone wants the volume right at the top of the crown.
00:18Then we're going to take the rest of the hair and split it down the middle.
00:21I'm going to do one side and she's going to do the other.
00:23I like to go through with like a large tooth comb, get rid of any tangles.
00:27And I'm going to take my 3Q Conair dryer.
00:30So I'm going to start with a rough blow-dry with my fingers to get a majority of the moisture
00:34out of the hair.
00:35And then I'm going to come in with a paddle brush to really move the hair.
00:39If the hair is too wet and you end up pulling it, you can end up breaking the hair.
00:44Once I have three quarters of the hair dry, I split the hair.
00:48I take the blow-dryer and I heat up the ends and then I kind of wait and I let
00:52the hair cool a little bit.
00:54And then I heat it up again and then I let it cool and then I roll it out.
00:57And what I have is a nice bend on the ends.
01:00Does the size of the round brush matter?
01:02The smaller the round brush, the tighter the curl.
01:04The jumbo is only going to give you a little bit of a bend, but the smaller one could actually
01:08give you a curl.
01:09Think you can do that on the other side?
01:11Do it.
01:12So you're holding it like a gun.
01:14You can hold it here or back here.
01:17Does that feel easier?
01:19You want to make sure that it's really dry in the nape.
01:22Take your paddle brush and just lean your head forward.
01:25Wrap it around your head.
01:27So you want to brush it down to the ends and roll it up like that, a little bend to
01:30the ends.
01:31We're going to go into this section and I'm going to start at the back of the crown.
01:35And I'm going to add a little volumizer into the roots.
01:38Spray it down the mid-shaft as well.
01:41I'm heating up the root while I'm holding it in the paddle brush because I want that volume there.
01:47Leave this top section for last and blow dry into it.
01:51Then you put some volumizer into the roots and then you go in with your brush.
02:01There we have it.
