Refinery29 caught up with Evan Rachel Wood when she was in New York promoting the film and talked everything from parenting in Hollywood, the necessary death of Charlie Countryman, and even a little 10 Things I Hate About You nostalgia.

00:08The movie was great and kind of stood the test of time because the casting was amazing.
00:14First of all, it was like Heath Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Julia Stiles, you
00:17know, before they had really blown up. So they were all amazing and I think for that
00:21genre it was just good. It had heart and it was a little edgier and, you know, the female
00:26protagonist was kind of a badass and kind of unlikable. And I think our film is similar
00:32in that way that, you know, for the genre, it's, you know, for a romantic comedy, it's
00:37a little more edgy and a little, the protagonists aren't always likable, but I think that's
00:44what's great about it.
00:46I mean, people do it, so I'm just, I'm just kind of winging it right now. He is upstairs
00:51with my husband and we tag team because we both work, but so far so good. So far so
00:57good. You know, I want to keep my child as protected as possible from, you know, paparazzi
01:02and outside sources, things like that, because they, we have a choice, but they don't, so
01:06I'd like to keep them as protected as possible.
01:10Hi, I'm Charlie Countryman.
01:12Can you tell me what happened with my father?
01:14I'm super nervous right now.
01:15I mean, for me, I usually pick projects that I can relate to in some way and then it's
01:20like, it's like therapy, you know, so I think, I think I worked out lots of, lots of my own
01:28relationship demons from this film and put some things to rest.
01:32This is a wild experience for me.
01:34Maybe you have some kind of fantasy about helping the woman in the faraway land.
01:39I think, I think the ending is very ambiguous in that way. And I, you know, they could end
01:43up having this beautiful life together or they could say goodbye and that could be it on that
01:47day. You don't know. I think, yeah, what is important is, is the soul searching for Shia's
01:52character and, and him, him going on this journey and also them finding each other when they needed
01:56each other the most. These two people that have both experienced a loss of one of their
02:01parents. And, you know, I think that's what brings them together.
02:06Are you alive? Are you in some three days of the condo or something?
02:14Where's it going?
02:17Watch me look.
02:21You need to leave.
02:27I hope you don't die, kiddo.
02:33If I do, I die for love. Then cool way to go.
