00:00Hello, everyone. Today is a special version of Sweet Diggs because we are playing Animal Crossing.
00:06Today, we are touring the house of Vice's Deputy Director of Social Publishing, Rachel Pick.
00:12Aside from working from home, Rachel has been playing Animal Crossing and creating a truly
00:17amazing house. I cannot wait to see it. Hi, Rachel. Hi, Shanti. Welcome to my island.
00:24Thank you. I love this home. It's so floral. It's so pink. Yes, hybrids.
00:32Oh, yeah. I am all about cultivating the hybrids. I just got my first gold rose and I put it
00:38right
00:38in front of the house over here. I'm so proud of it. Oh, and all this cliffside waterfall.
00:43I love it. You want to show me around? For sure. Perfect. Let's head on in.
00:56Whoa. This is cool. Yeah. So for the front room, I wanted to do kind of like a spooky Victorian
01:07lady's house, kind of like a reclusive woman up on the cliffs and she's got all this cool old stuff.
01:13So I've got like this cozy battered leather couch where I'm reading, drink my coffee. I've got this
01:20like retro record player, the Persian rug, and I'm also displaying some amber, which is like
01:27the coolest fossil to just display in your house if you get an extra one of those.
01:31You nailed this aesthetic. That's for sure.
01:34This is kind of like a more formal parlor room, but I turned the back room into like,
01:38it's like more like my own personal style, which is kind of poppy and colorful.
01:43So this is like the chill out room. I've got my turntable, the lava lamp, mini fridge.
01:50I love it. I haven't seen this wallpaper before. Where did you get this wallpaper?
01:55I got it from Sahara, the traveling merchant who sells the mysterious wallpapers and flooring.
02:02I'm so impressed that you got something nice from her.
02:07Do you want to move on to the kitchen?
02:09Sure.
02:14Oh, yes, Ironwood.
02:18It was so hard to get this piece with the sink because I had the recipe to make the kitchenette,
02:25but I didn't have the recipe for the dresser or the cutting board.
02:28Yeah, exactly. That's where I am.
02:30My boss, the senior director of social publishing, Veronica, she had the recipe for the dresser.
02:35And then one of her friends had the recipe for the cutting board.
02:38They were all sending me the parts and then I would build them and send them back.
02:41Oh, I'm so jealous of all this Ironwood, but I love it.
02:46These are also designs that someone else made. These pantry shelves, which makes it look more like a real kitchen
02:52and more like my own kitchen.
02:54So I really liked those. It's like good wall decoration.
02:58Yes. Wow. I love these little pantry shelves. I've never seen those before.
03:02My Instagram explore tab is like all Animal Crossing designs now.
03:07I just bookmarked the ones I really like.
03:09Right. Did the same happen with this floor mat over here?
03:14That's Sahara also.
03:16I'm actually shocked.
03:18Yeah, I've gotten a lot of duds from her, but she comes through every once in a while.
03:22You want to check out my bathroom?
03:23Yeah, let's do it.
03:25Not something you usually say to company.
03:32Yeah, this is one of my favorite colors. This kind of like deep tealish green.
03:38I just wanted something that seemed like relaxing. I've got like a little incense burner over by the bathtub.
03:44My real life apartment has a really terrible tiny old bathtub. So this is the closest that I'll get to
03:52be able to taking a nice relaxing bath.
03:54I have this cool golden toilet.
03:56Where did you find the golden toilet recipe?
03:59That was also a gift from a friend. So like the best the best way I think to play this
04:03game is to find like a couple other people who are also like super deep into it and just trade
04:09things back and forth.
04:10Like I have a couple of friends that I trade with. I trade with my boss a lot.
04:14It's amazing. That's one of the best parts about this game is that it's actually really communal.
04:19Do you want to check out my basement?
04:21Yeah.
04:22All right, let's do it.
04:27Whoa, this is like a whole apartment down here.
04:31Well, so for my basement, I tried to recreate like an omakase style sushi restaurant or like Japanese restaurant.
04:38I just thought that was like a fun idea because otherwise my basement wasn't really serving much of a purpose.
04:43At first, I tried to make it look creepy and like dungeon-y, but that look was harder to achieve
04:49than I anticipated.
04:51Got my knife blocked. I've got the hearth, which I think just looks cool.
04:56It does.
04:56And then like the gas range and a freezer.
04:59These are the lecture hall desks.
05:00I have some of them as like placeholder countertops in my kitchen upstairs.
05:05You can see that like they line up flush with each other.
05:09So it creates the illusion of like a continuous bar.
05:13Whereas if you used like a different kind of table that they have in the game, there would be like
05:16a gap between them.
05:17They look great.
05:18All right, I'm ready.
05:20What's on the menu?
05:21I wish I could actually make food in this game.
05:24I know.
05:26There's so much detail in this room and it really just adds to the whole aesthetic.
05:31I'm like, oh yeah, this is a sushi restaurant.
05:33I believe this.
05:35So if you're ready to move on, we can end the tour in my bedroom.
05:38Let's do it.
05:39Wow.
05:40Oh my God.
05:41This is this like honeycomb flooring.
05:44Wow.
05:44I am.
05:44I am immediately overwhelmed in the best way possible.
05:49Yeah, so this honeycomb flooring is a crafting recipe you get and you make it with wasp nests.
05:56So if you're ever like, I have all these wasp nests from getting stung and I can't do anything with
06:02them.
06:02There are actually some crafting recipes that use them.
06:05And I just think it looks really like sweet and cool.
06:08I like this screen wallpaper because I think there's only like one window in the attic.
06:13Normally, it creates the illusion of like a lot of natural light.
06:16It looks really bright up here.
06:19I decided to move my bedroom up into the attic so I would have more space and have it be
06:24more of like a full-on suite.
06:27So over here, I've got like a pet hamster.
06:30I've got a space to work on sewing projects.
06:34Got like my nail art set over here on this desk.
06:37I don't think that I ever had the idea to separate one room out into several different spaces.
06:47At first, I wanted my bedroom to be like in the attic just because regular house logic to me is
06:53like, oh, the bedroom's upstairs.
06:55And there's just so much space to play around with in the attic.
06:57And I didn't really have any good ideas off the top of my head.
07:01It's great.
07:02You nailed it.
07:03How long do you think you're going to keep your house like this?
07:07Like, do you think that you'll be redecorating it anytime soon or are you pretty content with it?
07:12I'm pretty content with it now.
07:14I mean, as I get more DIY recipes and get more cool furniture items, you know, I keep adding things
07:20and like changing it out a little bit.
07:21If I get enough items that fit a certain theme, like redecorating a whole room around that theme.
07:27Do you have a favorite room if you had to pick one?
07:30It's definitely the front room.
07:32But what's interesting about this front room is even though I really like the aesthetic, this is like not how
07:38I would decorate my real life space at all.
07:41But I find myself really liking it a lot.
07:44So, Rachel, I have to ask you, are there similarities between your Animal Crossing character and what you look like
07:50in real life?
07:50Well, we both have dark hair and I also added eyebrows to my character to make her look more like
07:56me because I do have eyebrows.
07:57I don't usually wear bunny ears, although I'm considering it because I think it looks really cute.
08:03And she also works a lot harder than I do.
08:09Your house, it's cozy, it's bright, it has a sushi restaurant.
08:14I mean, come on.
08:16Round of applause for Rachel's house.
08:20Thanks so much for coming.
08:22It was really fun showing you around.
08:24I wish this was my real house so bad.
08:26I wish this was my real house too.
08:28I would live here in an instant.
