Transcript
00:00Hey guys, I'm Jasmine and this is Jordan. Welcome to our House of Many Rooms or our Sweet Dicks.
00:06Before you come in, I'm going to need you to take off your shoes. Let's go.
00:10We live in Dallas, Texas in the Lower Greenville neighborhood.
00:14We pay $2,000 a month for a two-bed, two-bath, two-story duplex.
00:19I think it's about right for this neighborhood.
00:21The rent is going up a lot in the city, but I think $2,000 for basically a house is
00:27really fair.
00:27This is our living room. It is where we live.
00:31This room is called Mid-Century Coze, so lots of textiles.
00:36I thought we were going with Mid-Century Coze Eclectic.
00:40He does listen.
00:41These are all just words to me. I'm just trying to think of buzzwords.
00:45There's a lot of like Mid-Century influence, but it's still super cozy and there's still a lot of texture
00:50with like the pillows and of course all of the personal touches.
00:53One of my favorite things in the room is the record player I got for Jordan a couple Christmases ago.
00:59When we first started dating, Jasmine and I would send Song of the Day recommendations to each other.
01:05I think music has played a huge part in like our love story and how he, it's like one of
01:10his love languages, honestly.
01:11So I thought that would just be a really nice thing to have in the house.
01:14We met on Bumble, which is a dating app.
01:17Oh yeah, can we say Bumble?
01:19An internet dating service.
01:20Bumble, Bumble, I met on Bumble.
01:23We went to the Grapevine bar, played a game of basketball and the rest was history.
01:28This is our shared home office.
01:30On that side of the room is where the workstation spot is and then this is kind of the reading
01:35area.
01:36Sleeping area, beauty video watching area.
01:39This room has our most expensive item in the home.
01:43By far.
01:44Yeah, like tenfold.
01:45It's a sectional from interior to fine and we got it for $1,800.
01:51This piece definitely shows like art.
01:53Two different shopping styles and personalities.
01:56Typically I just Google like gray couch, cute but cheap.
02:00Jordan is responsible and does research and I think you spent somewhere in the ballpark of how many hours?
02:07Too many hours.
02:08I would say I'm obsessive but I like your phrasing.
02:10I work in people operations for a tech and real estate company.
02:14I'm a planner and designer for an urban planning firm here in Dallas.
02:19I also host a podcast called Go Cultivate so I'm, if I'm here I'm usually at that desk editing audio.
02:26So it was nice to create a space that was specifically for doing work that's apart from the place that
02:32we just relax.
02:33In this room we also have the guest bathroom which is now my bathroom.
02:37The key to a successful marriage, or our marriage anyway, is two bathrooms.
02:42I have dubbed it neutral geographic because we have some elephants in there so it's nature but it's super neutral.
02:51I love for bathrooms to feel super clean and spa-like.
02:54The whole two bathroom thing, I didn't think was going to be that big of a deal and now that
02:59we have two bathrooms, it's for real.
03:03And if you guys will follow me through here, this is what I call the jungle cafe, mostly because it
03:10has plants in every nook and cranny.
03:14And it's kind of just where all of our wonky art and wonky pieces come to live.
03:19One of the most sentimental items in the house for me is probably the dining room table.
03:23It was Jordan's childhood dining room table, and his mom, as part of a wedding gift, actually just re-polished
03:29it and cleaned it up for us.
03:31I ate baby food at the same table that I also was at when I paid off my student loans
03:36a couple months ago.
03:37We paid off, right?
03:39Yeah.
03:39Also in here we have our bar cart with baked lemons, and above it are my very own emoji painting.
03:48I was at a wine and painting night at work, and I got a head start on the wine part.
03:55So I was like, I'ma paint.
04:00I don't think I can say that word.
04:02I'm going to paint something funny.
04:05So that's how that came about.
04:07And for the record, I'm no longer at that employer, but not for painting dicks at work.
04:13And through this way is the most important room of the house, the kitchen.
04:18It's, like, quirky aesthetic name is Marble Farmhouse.
04:21It's definitely more curated, a bit more intentional.
04:24Everything's marble or farmhouse inspired.
04:28My favorite thing that Jordan makes...
04:31I mean everything.
04:33Before meeting Jordan, I definitely adhered to, like, a frat boy's food pyramid.
04:37So I had a lot of frozen food, but these days I do try to attempt some more ambitious things.
04:43For Valentine's Day, I made lobster risotto.
04:45At this spot, we finally had our own private patio.
04:48We wanted patio furniture.
04:50So Jordan, being the kind gentleman he is, thought, I'm going to surprise my wife with a beautiful patio set.
04:57I did not care for the furniture that was picked out.
05:01So after a few instances of each of us buying things and not telling the other about it, we've come
05:07up with a rule.
05:08If it's, like, $50 or more, we need to show the other person before we purchase it.
05:13All right, let's go check out the rest of the house.
05:17Right off the bedroom is my bathroom.
05:20I used to have a poster from, like, 1993 of Michael Jordan dunking just to kind of inspire greatness.
05:28It got lost in the move.
05:29I don't...
05:31I'm going to have to talk to somebody about that.
05:33And through here is our master bedroom.
05:36Jasmine describes it as southwestern sexy, I believe.
05:39There's a lot of, like, natural woods, snake plants.
05:42Definitely more of a southwestern vibe.
05:44It kind of just feels like a big treehouse in here.
05:46Beforehand, all of our bedrooms have taken on a really, like, minimalist kind of aesthetic.
05:50With this bedroom being twice the size of our last place, we had a lot more room, and it kind
05:55of felt like this blank cardboard box.
05:57And then Jordan put together that whole reading nook and that sort of, like, his man cave.
06:01If that's what we have to call it, then I'm proud of my man cave.
06:05Sometimes I even put my feet up.
06:07Sometimes I put my feet down.
06:08We took a media station, turned it into a bench.
06:12When we actually moved in, the movers scruffed it up.
06:15They gave us 150 bucks, so we bought a ton of pillows and kind of jazzed it up a little
06:20bit with flowers, plants, pillows.
06:22I think we found out that we actually had a lot of things in common as far as our tastes
06:27in furniture and decor.
06:30Jasmine's really good at making sure our room is coherent and has a look that is put together.
06:36It's been really cool to see the home evolve.
06:38I will take a blank canvas, and it seems really overwhelming and daunting.
06:42One of the best pieces of advice that Jordan will give is take it one day at a time, and
06:47then slowly but surely it all comes together.
06:49And I know a home is never really complete, but the moment I finally felt it was right was when
06:54I wanted to choose staying in with Jordan over happy hour.
06:58On the second day after we moved in, it already felt like home and it felt relaxing because Jasmine spent
07:03so much time setting up and staging the living room and the dining room to feel very lived in.
07:09I feel lucky to live with somebody who, beyond being an amazing person, also has a really good eye for
07:15design.
