00:00And then I put one of his snake plants into an...
00:06No.
00:09Hey guys, it's Mi-Anne, and this is Beauty With Me.
00:12Welcome to part two of Mi-Anne Declutters Her Beauty's Face.
00:17Colm and I are fortunate enough to live in an apartment here in Brooklyn, New York,
00:20where we actually have a spare room that, when we moved in,
00:25we had intended to be a filming slash guest room slash office space,
00:30but it really just ended up being a guest room slash dumping ground.
00:35I have always dreamed of having a space where I can actually film my beauty videos,
00:41have a desk where I can try out a new product,
00:44and actually store my product in an efficient and functional way.
00:48So I finally decided to hunker down and do this thing,
00:53and this is the fruits of my slash hour because it was a group effort labor.
01:02The space before was not ideal.
01:04It had really pink walls.
01:06I liked the walls, but not ideal for filming.
01:08It just made the room feel kind of dark.
01:11The old bed that I had in here was really big.
01:13The idea for transforming this space was to make it brighter,
01:17better organized, and pretty enough to use as a backdrop when I film.
01:21Okay, so this was a three-day process.
01:23On day one, Colin and I decided to paint the walls.
01:28So we purged the room, donated a lot of items to Goodwill,
01:33sold a few items, and just minimized the amount of stuff that was in here
01:36so that we could put it all in the center and really paint the walls.
01:39So we just went for a great classic white shade with a satin finish,
01:43something that would really reflect light and make it brighter and feel bigger when I'm filming.
01:49So day two was all about new furniture.
01:52So I decided to reach out to Ikea because they are so great for small space solutions,
01:56and they decided to help me out by sending over a desk and a sleeper sofa that would fit this
02:02space.
02:03So the desk that I got was the Ikea Alex desk that matches the Ikea Alex drawers that I already
02:10had.
02:15When it came to the sleeper sofa, I did so much research trying to find one that was small enough
02:21to fit a desk and have room to walk around,
02:24but also when it pulled out could comfortably sleep two people.
02:27I landed on the Ikea Likesell unit, which is just like a futon kind of style sleeper sofa that you
02:35can pull out to a full bed.
02:37It is hands down the smallest, most functional unit for the price that I could find.
02:42It does the job. My sister slept on it last week and she said it was very comfortable.
02:46We also got some under bed storage from Ikea that we used to hold like our linens and towels and
02:51that sort of thing.
02:52We're going to see if it fits.
03:01Once all the furniture was in place, it was time to tackle the things that needed to be drilled and
03:06adhered to the walls.
03:08My coworker Anthony, who shoots my videos and is also my friend, quote, loves to build things.
03:15So he did all the drilling and I handed him the screwdriver.
03:20We have accumulated a couple of different instruments over the years.
03:24So we like to mount them up on the wall.
03:32We moved on and put up the bulletin board on the right side of the room.
03:39So one of my former coworkers had this awesome show on Refresh 29 called Be Organized.
03:44And she created this amazing wall mounted ring light set up for a beauty blogger here in New York.
03:50I loved this set up. When I saw it, my mind was like blown.
03:54And we decided to recreate this set up.
03:56We got this awesome second hand boom arm that can turn and be stowed away to hold a ring light.
04:03What's really great about it is the boom arm can be angled different ways so that different parts of the
04:08room are visible.
04:08It also keeps the stuff on the floor to a minimum.
04:12There's no like leg stands on the floor, no wires.
04:15It's a really nice like seamless set up.
04:17And it's also always there.
04:19And I think it encourages me to film.
04:21Hi guys.
04:23We just put in the boom arm with the ring light.
04:30You're welcome.
04:31So it doesn't go flush against the wall like we had hoped.
04:35But if you loosen this knob right here and this one right here, you can just spin it down and
04:44put it flat against your radiator like that.
04:47And it will tuck away behind the desk.
04:48Yes.
04:49I figured some of you might be interested in the type of gear that I use.
04:52I use a Canon G7X camera to record.
04:55And then I actually also got this really cool multifunction ball head shoe mount to put on my ring light
05:02to hold my camera.
05:04This is really cool because you can use it to record horizontally or vertically.
05:08I have always wanted a floating plant shelf.
05:12They're not just beautiful and make for a gorgeous backdrop for filming,
05:16but they keep all the plants up and out of my cat's reach because she's a chewer and she has
05:22killed many, many, many of my plants.
05:44After all of that was up, it was time to move on to day three, which is all about organization
05:49and decor.
05:50I decided to keep my nine drawer Alex unit tucked away in the corner.
05:55I purposefully kept my skincare away from the window because direct sunlight can actually impact the efficacy of a lot
06:01of the actives in your skincare products.
06:04I also put this beautiful gold mirror from Target above it so that I can look into it as I
06:09apply my skincare.
06:10Okay, so moving on to the desk drawers.
06:12So on the left side is where I keep my camera equipment, my hair straighteners, my jewelry, hair accessories.
06:18And the right side is where I keep my go-to makeup products and makeup products that I want to
06:24test out.
06:26So that's like eyeshadows that I just got that I haven't given my full, full trial run yet.
06:32The idea is I'll be moving things out of this drawer as I try them pretty regularly.
06:36So in terms of decor, I decided to upcycle a couple of the candles that I had burned down.
06:42So I use empty candle vessels for a couple of different things.
06:45You can put pens in them, I put my brushes in them, cotton swabs, that sort of thing.
06:50And you can also use them as plant pots because plant pots are very expensive and candle holders are so
06:56cute.
06:57Decanting your candles is actually really, really easy.
06:59I like to pour boiling water into the vessel and then wait for the wax to kind of get to
07:05the top, cool down.
07:06Then it makes it really easy to just scoop the wax up, clean out the candle, and then put whatever
07:11you want into it.
07:13Anthony, the gift that keeps on giving, is also an avid plant dad.
07:19He propagated a couple of plants for me from his plant collection.
07:27And I put one of his aloe vera plants into an old olfactory candle that I had that says hot
07:32fire on it.
07:33I mean, it looks really cute.
07:34And then I put one of his snake plants into an old clay pot that I had lying around.
07:41So I've had this cutting of what I think is a pothos.
07:45Man is both a plant lady and a cat lady.
07:48I stole it from work.
07:50Actually, I didn't steal it.
07:52It gave its baby to me.
08:07Once all my plants were potted, I put them up on my floating shelf and created my floating plant wall
08:14and moved on to decorating the rest of the space.
08:17Urban Outfitters in Target were kind enough to send me a few items to gussy up the space.
08:23This stool is absolutely gorgeous.
08:25It's a rattan stool, and I love rattan, that I'm using as my desk chair.
08:31I decided to go for a stool because it can be pushed under the desk when the bed is pulled
08:37out.
08:39I also got this really cute triangular wooden side table from Urban Outfitters that I'm using as kind of a
08:45side table for the bed.
08:49The IKEA bed is really functional and really great for what it does, but it does look pretty plain when
08:55it just has the gray cover on top.
08:57So to dress it up, Target sent me this gorgeous bohemian kind of white pillow and this waffle weave white
09:04blanket.
09:05And I got this Urban Outfitters fleece body pillow that just makes the couch feel so much more inviting.
09:13Last but not least, the carpet.
09:15So rugs, carpets, what's the difference?
09:20I'm just going to say it's rug.
09:22Rugs just really tie rooms together in my opinion.
09:26So I got this gorgeous washable rug from Urban Outfitters.
09:31It has this cool like geometric kind of wabi-sabi kind of look to it.
09:38And it's really colorful and the room itself is actually pretty neutral.
09:42Like it has the grays, the whites.
09:43So having this fun blue and pink and burgundy rug on the floor makes it just look so much more
09:50fun.
09:51And Bootsy really likes it.
10:25And that is it.
10:26I know that not everyone has the space or really the need for a setup like this.
10:31But I thought it would be fun to document since I wanted to do this anyway.
10:36And I do hope that there are some little hacks in here that you might take and apply to your
10:42space.
10:43I would also love your feedback on this type of video.
10:47So it's not, you know, your typical like makeup tutorial.
10:51Would love to know if you guys like to see these kind of organizational DIY beauty videos from me.
10:57And I will see you guys next week.
11:00And hopefully you will be seeing a lot more of me in this space.
11:04Bye!
11:04Bye!
11:04Bye!
