00:00Hi, I'm Megan. Welcome to my Sweet Digs. I live here with my husband and three
00:05kids and two cats. It's a little bit of a squeeze, but we still love it. I have a
00:10two-bedroom, 725 square foot apartment. It goes from one end to another, so we
00:15have my master bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, and the kids' room. My rent
00:21is $1,850. It's a little bit much for what we pay for, but it's still a deal
00:26considering what other rent is in the city. My process for decorating is
00:30definitely pulling a ton of inspiration from fashion. I love fashion and clothing,
00:35so I've played a lot with print mixing and textures throughout the space. I'm a
00:42maximalist. I love eclectic pieces. I'm a little bit bohemian. Give me color, give me
00:47patterns, give me plants, give me prints, and I'm here for it. I started my blog TF
00:51Diaries about ten years ago after I had my first son. I was originally a costume
00:55designer and stylist and I wanted a creative outlet outside of being a mom. So
01:00TF Diaries was born and here we are. Originally TF Diaries was just fashion
01:05based, but I've evolved to lifestyle and I've found that home decorating is kind of
01:10my passion. So I really have loved seeing like it grow over the last
01:15several years. So this is my bedroom. I designed it to be a little bit more
01:19serene than the other rooms. I still wanted a pop of color so I went with a
01:24blue ceiling and I loved it so much that we ended up painting the boys room the same
01:28exact color. And then for storage I love my wardrobes, I love my storage baskets, and
01:34then I have my personal favorites, the juju hat on the back and then my reading
01:38nook over here with my vintage chair for my mom and dad. Because we have a two
01:44bedroom we share a room with our toddler and his crib is in the nook over in the
01:49corner. I love that it's navy blue because it matches the ceiling perfectly.
01:53Originally we started off with clothing racks and dressers and it just ended up
01:58being such a hot mess that we wanted something that was closed and easily
02:01hidden so we went with these storage units. Of course I have to show off my
02:06favorite pieces so this large hook by command is the easiest way to do so. And
02:11then the cutest part is the marble finish.
02:20My favorite part of the apartment is definitely the living room. I love our
02:23bright fuchsia walls with our artwork and then our vintage pieces. It's just like
02:29the best place to come together and hang out and have dinner or watch a movie. Like
02:33we spend the most time in here for sure. We had beige kind of walls when we first
02:38moved in and I wanted something that really popped. I definitely had to
02:41convert my husband a little bit. He's definitely a minimalist but after he
02:46saw it after everything was done he was definitely converted for good. The
02:50baskets on the wall are all hand-me-downs from my grandparents. They have passed
02:55away but when we were cleaning out their houses I found them and immediately fell
03:00in love with them. So my best home find is actually my TV stand. It looks vintage but
03:06it was really only $100 at a big box retailer. For my wall I decided to go with
03:11a gallery wall to contrast with my bright pink. I love having different pieces of
03:17art on the wall and I love switching them around on the regular. So picture hanging
03:22strips are my go-to. They're easy to remove, they're easy to install and less
03:27holes in your wall because of my day.
03:31My husband's actually the one who found the apartment. I didn't see it until the day we
03:34moved in and it definitely did not look like the pictures he had showed me and there was
03:40not closets where he said there were closets so it was definitely an interesting experience
03:44walking in the first time after we had moved here from Florida. So this is my kitchen and
03:49one of my favorite parts of my kitchen is my purple watercolor backsplash and it even has
03:55managed to get a little reaction out of my landlord. It's literally the only thing in
03:59the apartment that he has been like that comes off, right? This is the nursery. My
04:04husband has the green thumb of the family. He grows herbs and plants and vegetables
04:08in our little window. My inspiration was definitely sunshine and while it
04:15definitely is a kitchen I also wanted to be a fun space for the kids to come be
04:19hands-on. So we have a chalkboard wall and then a nice way to transition to their bright
04:26room is the palm print wallpaper.
04:34We definitely downsized when we moved. We were originally in a house and we moved
04:38into this tiny little space and at first the kids were like and not into this at
04:43all. Now it's one of their favorite spaces and they don't want to move. And this is
04:48the boys room. We like the ceiling in our bedroom so much that we ended up painting
04:52the same color in the kids bedroom. This tiny bedroom looks way bigger with this
04:57color and I love it. They each did their own little painting for the space. One is
05:02Central Park, one is the sky, another one is the sky. For a 7 and 9 year old they look
05:07adorable. They have display ledges. These are so cute because they are easy to
05:13remove. You can move them around and then they hold all their toys that they want to show off.
05:17So the exit sign became a part of our home when the kids found it on the
05:23sidewalk a few years ago and insisted that we bring it home to show us the
05:28exit to the fire escape. They loved it so I had to let them bring it home.
05:34We love plants so my husband created this creative way to display them. The kids
05:39definitely have a mind of their own when it comes to their room. I will decorate it
05:43and like a week later they will move furniture and pictures off the wall and do whatever they
05:49feel like. I will walk in and it will be a totally different room. So they have their
05:52own little hand in the pot of decorating.
05:57The most difficult part about moving to this apartment was not being able to see it first
06:01and to try to decorate it and bring stuff that I wanted for the apartment to fill it. It's literally
06:06taken us almost six years to get it in the right shape. My least favorite part of the apartment is
06:11definitely my bathroom. The shape and layout is just horrible. So we found what works and what
06:17doesn't work and for our next apartment we want a washer and dryer, another room, a little bit more
06:23storage and of course an outdoor space. Is that too much?
06:27That's it.
06:27So
