Nia Jax has wrestling in her blood and wants to show what women like her are doing in the world of wrestling.
Transcript
00:01I'm all woman and however I want to portray that, I can portray that.
00:05Either I want to be gross and sweaty or I want to be dressed to the nines and looking sexy.
00:11Hi, I am WWE superstar Nia Jax.
00:16The WWE is sort of a family business for me.
00:19I come from a very long lineage of Samoan wrestlers.
00:23So growing up watching the WWE, I had noticed that they were called WWE Divas back then.
00:30And they were always beautiful women, but skinnier and smaller than me.
00:35And I just never really saw somebody like me in the business.
00:41It was my aunt who actually inspired me and told me that I needed to show the world somebody like
00:47me
00:48could go out there and do this and embrace who I am.
00:53In WWE history, a diva was considered one of the hot girls and somebody who wasn't necessarily an athletic wrestler.
01:04You know, when divas were having, you know, two minute matches and not really given an opportunity to showcase all
01:10their talents,
01:10everybody came together and realized that we needed to showcase our women and how great athletes they are.
01:16We changed the term divas because at the time it did have a negative connotation to it and just made
01:21all of us superstars.
01:22You know, male, female, it doesn't matter. We are all WWE superstars.
01:26And now we have the opportunity to show how great we really are.
01:31Fighting like a girl should be something, I mean, I'm proud of it.
01:34Like I go out in the ring and I fight like a girl. Are you kidding me?
01:36Like I've worked hard to get to this body, to get to where I am. And I am proud to
01:42fight like a girl.
01:44I have the most amazing mother. And without her, I would not be the woman I am today.
01:51You know, we grew up poor and there was nothing too low she could do to make sure her kids
01:55had food on the table.
01:56My mother is my role model and I love her so much.
02:01Beauty doesn't come from the outside. Beauty comes from the inside.
02:04The fact when I started to embrace myself publicly, you know, through the WWE, through social media,
02:10that I got so much great feedback.
02:12Grown women and grown men have come to me and said that it's helped them.
02:15That just, it's amazing. And realizing that people need to realize that beauty is inside.
02:22And it has nothing to do with the outside.
02:26I feel as though it's important for young girls, or young boys too, to see somebody different like me.
02:34It shouldn't be different that I'm a bigger girl on TV or whatnot.
02:37It should just be normal.
02:39Maybe a young girl seeing me and not feeling comfortable in her group can feel like,
02:44Oh my gosh, look it. Nia Jax went out there and she's different and I look like her.
02:48And she's kicking ass and she's taking names.
02:51She's like, maybe one day I can do that and I should just embrace who I am.
02:53Be not like most. It's something that's a huge gift.
02:57And you know, if you embrace it, it's going to be amazing.
