Branded Try Living With Lucie for Pantene
Transcript
00:00I'm Lucy Fink and this is five days of great hair. Hey everyone, do you want to know what I
00:04learned recently?
00:05Only one in ten women claim that they consistently have good hair days. One in ten? That's only ten percent.
00:11Matt, I don't know about you, but I think ten percent of women thinking they're having a good hair day
00:16is just way too low.
00:18If you have hair on your head, you know that having a good hair day can make you feel so
00:22much happier and so much more confident throughout the course of the day.
00:25So this week I partnered up with Pantene to try five new hairstyles and to learn how to make every
00:30single day this week a great hair day.
00:32Before even beginning this week, so all the way back on Sunday, I shampooed and conditioned my hair using Pantene's
00:38Repair and Protect collection.
00:39Knowing that I was about to be a little bit rougher on my hair than normal, I wanted to minimize
00:43damage and breakage.
00:45And now let's jump right in.
00:48I feel like a hairstyle can affect my entire personality.
00:52A very bold and confident style can make me feel empowered to get out there and try new things,
00:57whereas a real slicked back power look can make me feel like a boss.
01:01Monday's hairstyle was a power bun.
01:03I'm used to wearing my hair down, so even pulling it back and pulling it off of my shoulders
01:08has me feeling a little bit exposed and uncomfortable.
01:11But there's something very special about not having hair to hide behind.
01:15It almost forces you to feel empowered.
01:17I started off the bun by making a sharp side part.
01:19I pulled my hair back into a tight, low ponytail.
01:22And then I began twisting the ponytail until it started swirling around itself, creating almost a donut shape.
01:28I started adding bobby pins and then tweaking it to make sure there were no flyaways.
01:32Lastly, I used some hair spray to flatten out the top of my hair.
01:35And I even put spray directly on the comb to flatten out the baby hairs around the edge of my
01:40face.
01:40Once the bun was in, I paired this hairstyle with the best power suit I could find and then I
01:45headed upstairs to work.
01:46It was a busy day in the office.
01:48I started the day off by getting some busy work done at my desk.
01:51When I'm not on set, a day in the office for me always looks different.
01:54Sometimes I'm at my computer watching rough cuts of videos and giving notes.
01:58Other times I'm doing pre-production and I'm planning for upcoming shoots.
02:02And there are always so many emails to answer and so many decisions to make.
02:06I ran out in the middle of the day to grab lunch and I realized that the combination of this
02:10hairstyle with the power suit outfit was actually affecting the way I was walking.
02:14I wasn't just walking, I was power striding down that street.
02:18Coming back into the office, I was immediately onto the next task.
02:21My intern met me the moment I stepped off the elevator and the two of us rushed to our next
02:25meeting while we discussed so many upcoming things we have to do.
02:28Let's send this out fast.
02:30Okay.
02:30Tell them they really need to hurry.
02:31Sometimes when my hair is down, I find myself touching it for no apparent reason.
02:35Almost like a crutch.
02:36But on Monday, I couldn't do that.
02:38I was forced to face whatever was in front of me.
02:40It did feel very different from the way I typically look, but even still, it was a great hair day.
02:44Please cancel everything, we don't have time.
02:48When I woke up on Tuesday morning, I was still feeling powerful from Monday's look, but I have to say,
02:53towards the end of the day on Monday, I was starting to feel a little bit stern and rigid.
02:57So on Tuesday, I had the urge to just let loose and do something a little fun and creative.
03:03I typically show my artistic side by making video content for YouTube, like this right here, or through bullet journaling,
03:09watercoloring, and doing craft projects.
03:11But on Tuesday, I wanted to go big.
03:14And if I was going to do something really creative and artistic, then I needed a hairstyle to match that.
03:19I started out by adding some clip-in extensions to my hair.
03:22Now, this is something I've never done before, but I loved the wild and untamed look they gave me.
03:27I teased my hair to get the extensions to stay locked in there, and once they were secured, I just
03:32set myself free, styling my hair in a whole variety of ways.
03:35I felt compelled to curl some pieces, some pieces I crimped using the flat iron, and other pieces I braided.
03:41There was really no rhyme or reason to this style.
03:43I was not emulating a look that I had seen anywhere before.
03:46I was essentially just being crafty and doing arts and crafts on my hair.
03:50And once I had finished styling my hair, I packed up my art supplies and headed out to Smart Space
03:55Studios, an artistic collective in New York City.
03:57Painting is in my blood.
03:59My mom is a painter.
04:00She actually painted most of the artwork in this apartment, including these three paintings right above my head.
04:05And even though I do watercolor occasionally, one thing I haven't really done is take a giant canvas and paint
04:11something big.
04:11So I brought in a couple of large canvases and a ton of acrylic paint.
04:16I found a photo of myself on Instagram that was really calling my name.
04:19It was honestly a little bit ambitious of me to try and paint that image on my first try, but
04:24I just went for it anyway.
04:25After outlining it in pencil, I started adding my first strokes of paint to the canvas.
04:30I just got into the zone and let my hand fly, bringing this photo to life.
04:34I ran into a little bit of trouble with the details on my face, so after about five minutes, I
04:39stepped back and I looked at it and I thought,
04:41wow, that's really creepy.
04:43Kind of looks like a pirate with a beard.
04:46But thankfully, another artist that was using the studio space came over and she gave me a little mini lesson.
04:51So I let her actually put her brush to my canvas and she taught me shadowing.
04:54Some shadow that's a nice kind of warm skin color, not as much brown.
05:00Brown.
05:01Shading, different color mixing techniques.
05:03And with her help, I was able to finalize the details on the face, adding proper shadows, reshaping my eyes,
05:09and completely fixing the hair so that it no longer looked like a creepy pirate beard.
05:13Let there be eyes.
05:15And if I do say so myself, I think by the end it came out looking pretty good.
05:19And I like the texture of the pants.
05:21Yeah!
05:22She likes it!
05:23As soon as I finished it, I moved on to the bigger canvas that I brought to do some splatter
05:27painting.
05:28Splatter painting is one of my favorite painting styles because just like that hairstyle I had in, it's totally messy
05:33and completely unpredictable.
05:35Even just one unique flick of the wrist can change the entire outcome of the painting.
05:40And I realized that the act of creating that hairstyle wasn't all that different from the act of putting paint
05:45onto a canvas.
05:46It was completely spontaneous and in the moment.
05:50When I woke up on Wednesday morning, my hair was, as you can imagine, a little bit naughty from Tuesday's
05:56look.
05:56So I followed up my morning shampoo and conditioner with a Pantene Intense Rescue Shot, which targets extreme damage and
06:02prevents split ends.
06:04Something that I majorly needed after a day of extensions and paint and a ton of heat on my hair.
06:09For the next look, I wanted to go one step beyond the creative and wacky hairstyle on Tuesday and actually
06:14try something that was going to make me feel a lot younger and more playful.
06:18As an adult in the working world, it can be really easy to lose touch with your playful side and
06:23to just start thinking that everything is so serious.
06:26So when trying to come up with the best hairstyle to embody playfulness, I immediately thought of space buns.
06:32Beep, beep, boop, beep, beep, beep.
06:33I began by parting my hair down the middle and creating two high ponytails, one on each side.
06:38I added a few clip-in extensions again for some extra volume and length, and then I put a hair
06:43donut in.
06:44I spread my hair around it to cover the donut, clipping in a few bobby pins along the way, and
06:48then secured it with an elastic.
06:50Lastly, I twisted the rest of the ponytail around it to create two mini buns at the top of my
06:55head.
06:55To make these space buns look extra galactic, I put hair spray down the center of my part and added
07:01glitter to make a glitter part.
07:03Once the look was complete, I knew the perfect place that I could showcase it.
07:06I left work a little bit earlier than normal and went to SPIN, a giant indoor ping pong social club
07:12in the Flatiron District.
07:14It's basically a huge event space underground with interactive games, food and drinks, and I met one-on-one with
07:20a Swedish ping pong pro.
07:22Hi there! Are you Lucy? That's me! I'm not quite sure how I got in here.
07:27She brought me over to a table, and we just started rallying.
07:29After a few hits, she showed me her pro serve, which is basically a slice.
07:34It was seemingly impossible to return her serves, but she taught me exactly how to hold the paddle.
07:39And I'm hitting the ball on the side there, and that makes the ball spin that way.
07:45Yes!
07:45And where to aim.
07:46Try and go a little bit more that way.
07:48And guess what?
07:52I returned a serve of a 14-time Swedish ping pong pro. Just saying.
07:58This hairstyle was so cute and so playful, and the energy from this hairstyle was seeping into the energy that
08:04I was bringing to the table.
08:05This is not typically a hairstyle I would wear, especially the glitter part, but I have to say this style
08:10made my experience at SPIN even more fun.
08:13Woo!
08:18Thursday's look was all about confidence.
08:21When I think of a bold and fierce hairstyle, the first words that come to mind are curly, big, and
08:26wild.
08:27The image that comes to mind is Olivia Newton-John from that last scene of Grease with the big, bold
08:32curls, the all-black outfit, the red pumps on her feet, and bright red lipstick to match.
08:37I looked up how to do this hairstyle online, and then gave it a try.
08:40I started with my hair straight and loose, and then I sectioned it off a little bit at a time,
08:45and started making pin curls.
08:47Basically curling each piece around the curling iron, and then wrapping the curl around my finger before pinning it up
08:52against my head.
08:53So that I could give my hair the most volume here, I needed to make sure to do this very
08:57meticulously around my entire head.
08:59Not skipping over any curls, not cutting corners, and missing any sections.
09:03And this whole process alone wound up taking about an hour.
09:06As the pin curls set, I lined my lips with red liner, and then filled them in with red liquid
09:11lipstick.
09:11And in about 15 minutes, it was time for the big reveal.
09:14I started with the lower back part of my hair, which had the longest time to cool.
09:18I pulled it out of the pin, fluffed the hair around a little bit, and then using a couple of
09:22fingers, I gave it a rough tease by pushing the hair up towards the root.
09:25After adding one final bobby pin to achieve that pinned up look that she has in the movie, I was
09:30ready for my photo shoot on the streets of New York.
09:33When I thought about this bold and confident hairstyle, I wanted to make sure that I was pushing myself to
09:38do an activity that would require confidence.
09:40At this point, I'm pretty used to doing shoots in the street, but when you're in a costume type outfit,
09:45and you have wild hair and makeup, it's always a little bit daunting.
09:48My photographer, Elena, and I went around the corner from the office and snapped a few shots.
09:52One thing I have to say is that having the hairstyle from the movie really put me in character.
09:57You better shave it!
09:58I was basically hearing grease songs on repeat in my head all day, and I was tempted to dance and
10:03do the hand jive.
10:04And that right there is proof enough that just changing your hairstyle can really influence the way you feel.
10:09I've never styled my hair like this before, but I absolutely loved it.
10:13It was very 50s.
10:17On the last day of this challenge, I wanted to try something that was completely out of my comfort zone.
10:22Something I've never done before that honestly scared me a little bit.
10:25To match my hair to the theme of the day, I wanted to try a style that was a bit
10:29of a risk-taker style.
10:30Something that I wasn't sure would work out.
10:32I had this vision of a French braid that went sweeping across the back of my head,
10:36and then had pieces of my hair woven into it almost like little bows cascading across my head.
10:42I tried it out by first attempting the French braid, which I should say is something I don't know how
10:46to do.
10:47After a few failed attempts, I called my friend who's much better at braiding than I am.
10:51She lives in the building just next door and she happened to be free, so she came over to help
10:55me out.
10:55She put the braid in and then she started weaving the hair in.
10:58And we both looked at it and we just thought, this doesn't look right.
11:01We really tried with that one, but when all was said and done, it was a major fail and that's
11:05okay.
11:06We took a risk, it didn't work out, so we just moved on to a new style.
11:09I threw my hair into a high ponytail and then I attempted a messy fishtail braid.
11:13Also a type of braid that I don't know how to do, but I just follow directions for it online.
11:18And once I was happy with this risk-taker hairstyle, I left home for my risk-taker activity.
11:24Trapeze school. This is something I've been a little bit scared of, but I've been wanting to try for the
11:29longest time.
11:30So I made an appointment at Trapeze School New York in Brooklyn and I basically became an acrobat for the
11:35day.
11:35I was welcomed into the space.
11:36You are good to go, you can just set your stuff down and then the instructors will get you started.
11:40Perfect, thank you.
11:41And then I met the instructor who began by walking me through everything I was going to do.
11:46Some basic safety rules, never walk under the net.
11:48We have it roped up, but keep your hips thrusted forward.
11:50Keep the bar up high.
11:51Chin up.
11:51That's it.
11:52Just like that.
11:53If you fall off the board or off the bar and do anything crazy in the air, I'll just tighten
11:56up and let you gently down to the net.
11:57So you will be okay, even if it doesn't feel like you are.
12:00After the lesson, I had a safety belt put on me.
12:02I pulled down the rope, hooked myself into the clips.
12:05Clip.
12:06Clip.
12:07Chalked up my hands and then climbed on up the ladder.
12:10At the top, another staff member transferred my clips around as I held on for dear life.
12:15And then I grabbed the trapeze bar with my right hand and then gently reached for it with my left
12:20hand while the instructor held me back by my belt.
12:23All the while you're pushing your hips forward over the edge of the platform and just hoping that he's really
12:27holding on back there.
12:28And then on the instructor's cue, you bend your knees.
12:31Ready?
12:32And ha!
12:33You jump.
12:38And just like that, you're flying.
12:41Up on the trapeze, it is a major exercise in listening.
12:44So on every swing, you're listening carefully to his directions.
12:48On straight, don't move.
12:49Legs up now.
12:52Hands off now.
12:53All right, you're back.
12:55All right, hands back up.
12:56You make sure you're tucking your knees at the right moment, releasing your hands at the right moment,
13:01and then dropping the bar at the right moment.
13:03When I first made it down, I was coursing with adrenaline.
13:07Whoa!
13:09Woo!
13:10And once you land on the net, you land on your stomach and you flip off with a front tuck.
13:14Personally, I felt like I was good to go after the first flight, but the instructors at trapeze school really
13:20push you to get out of your comfort zone.
13:22So I wound up going again, and again, and again, and again, and again.
13:27By the end of the day, I had flown six times.
13:30I learned how to do a back tuck off the trapeze bar.
13:32And I even practiced catching, which is where I jump off of the platform on the exact cue of the
13:37guy that's sitting on the other trapeze bar.
13:39And as I'm flying forward, he's flying back.
13:43Hands off now.
13:44Look back at Kevin.
13:45And we grab each other's wrists.
13:47Woo!
13:47And I release the bar, and then I'm flying with him.
13:50And just like that, I had conquered a major fear.
13:52Over the course of this week, I was completely shocked at how just by changing my hairstyle, my personality and
13:58intentions for the day would change too.
14:00I felt like the hairstyles affected my mindset, the tone of my voice.
14:05Talk to me.
14:05And the energy in my body.
14:07Woo!
14:08From something tight and sleek, to something creative and wild, to something completely new and unfamiliar to me,
14:15these styles were each incredibly unique and interesting.
14:18And I wound up thinking every day of this week was a great hair day.
14:22Bye!
14:22Bye-bye.
14:23Bye!
14:23Bye-bye.
