00:01Welcome to Snobs on Broad Street and we're here as it launches at a very special time of the year.
00:08I'm here today with Rosanna. Now you're launching at Halloween. Tell me about that.
00:13Yeah, so Halloween's huge in the market at the moment. It's getting bigger every single year.
00:19And we've had a few weeks here since freshers that have been really successful, but Halloween really is going to
00:25be massive for us.
00:26Why do you think Halloween has become so popular?
00:30I think it's a little bit of like Americanisation and it's seeing it over social media and it's a chance
00:35for people to really get dressed up, really enjoy themselves.
00:38What sort of events are you running over Halloween and what's really successful for you?
00:44I think for us, the themed events, the ones where people can go out and really enjoy themselves are important.
00:50And we're running Thursday, Friday and Saturday at two venues, very different and trying to keep on trend with what
00:57we're doing.
00:58The things that we're doing up at the old Snobs, now called 200, is quite niche, quite things that you
01:04won't hear on Broad Street elsewhere.
01:05So it's very like music driven, music led.
01:10And so, yeah, whereas here is Snobs as you expect Snobs to be.
01:14It's fun and good and no judgment down here.
01:17Now, Rosanna, many businesses in this industry are struggling at the moment.
01:23And what's your secret to success?
01:25I think the biggest thing for us is that we listen to the market and we try and adapt to
01:30what's going in trend, what's going, what's popular rather than trying to do the same thing every single week.
01:35We try and mix it up and we listen to what people want, whether there's certain music genres, whether there's
01:40certain drinks offers, whatever they're looking for.
01:43We try and try and achieve that.
01:44Do you find that people are spending as much on drinks now than before?
01:49There was a little bit of a lull coming out of Covid where people's drinking habits changed, but it's definitely
01:54picking back up.
01:56There is a little bit of pre-drinking that people do in houses with friends, but it's still working well
02:03for us, the model that we've got just opening slightly later and slightly longer.
02:07That's fantastic.
02:08And in terms of support to the industry in general, is there more that the government could or should do
02:14to support businesses like yours?
02:16Yeah, we work quite closely with the various campaigns that are going around, particularly the VAT's the problem thing, where
02:24if there was a reduction in VAT for hospitality, it would really help.
02:28In line with what's going on in Europe, that would be really good for the industry.
02:32And in terms of the recent budget that we've seen, was there anything to support businesses like yours?
02:40Not overly, to be honest.
02:42Increasing minimum wage obviously always hits us and pension contributions and that sort of thing always is tricky without being
02:50able to make it back on various other aspects.
02:52So it's challenging, but we keep going.
02:55That's lovely and I can't wait to see your outfit.
