00:00Hey guys, welcome to The Mention. I'm Serena. I'm Cecily. And I'm Arianna and
00:05this is your weekly roundup of everything pop culture lovers have been
00:08buzzing about this week. And this week our bartender Estelle has mixed us up
00:14something really fun. What are we drinking today? We're drinking the Summer Breeze.
00:20So I'm making a super refreshing cocktail that's rum based in my shaker
00:24tin already. I've got some Fino Sherry fresh lime juice and creme de cacao. I'm
00:29going to add an ounce and a half of the Diplomatico Planas white rum. Give it a
00:35little shake. Pop the shaker. For garnish, we're going to spank a little mint leaf to
00:52release some essential oils, a little aroma. Spank. It's a naughty daytime cocktail.
00:58A little Angostura bitters and a flower. Wow. I didn't know if you had spanked you on set today.
01:05Spank. Okay. Naughty drinks he had. Correct. If you didn't spank it, I don't want it. Okay.
01:11This is actually perfect because I'm going to Miami this weekend. Okay. You know. She just wanted to say I'm
01:16going to Miami this weekend.
01:17I definitely did. I'm going to pretend like I'm in college again. Yes. Spring break. Oh, this is refreshing.
01:22So guys, hot tea. You're going to need these drinks. Okay. Fill it. Let's get the bad news out of
01:27the way first because I don't want to go into Miami with any bad juju.
01:30So let's just get the bad news out of the way first. Okay. Snapchat ran this extremely insensitive and honestly
01:35extremely tone-deaf advertisement this week.
01:38There was a game called Would You Rather and the question that was posed was would you rather slap Rihanna
01:44or punch Chris Brown?
01:45They had pictures of them and there were graphics and it was just obviously very problematic.
01:51Now, I don't think that I need to explain why this is honestly like messed up for any reason because
01:57like let's just get some more examples other than like bodily violence.
02:00But in this specific case, as you all probably remember in 2009 after the Grammys when Rihanna and Chris Brown
02:06were still dating, they were notoriously involved in a domestic violence incident.
02:10It got really nasty. It was a public spectacle. There were pictures of Rihanna's battered face all over the internet.
02:16It was bad. It was a bad situation. And this was just extremely not funny. And because Rih Rih is
02:22the hero that we deserve, she called Snapchat out on it.
02:26And she basically was like this, I don't have any feelings about this. Which also, can you believe it's been
02:3110 years?
02:32That is crazy. It seems like just yesterday almost.
02:35It makes me feel old actually. But she was like, I don't have any personal feelings about this.
02:38She was like, but for everybody else who's ever been in a situation of domestic violence, people who are still
02:43in those situations, who are trying to get out, you let them all down.
02:46You can keep your app-ology is what she said because Snapchat did issue an apology about running the ad.
02:53So she basically just said throw the whole app away.
02:55Which is like a bad week for Snapchat or a bad month for Snapchat because Kylie Jenner said that she
03:00wasn't using Snapchat anymore and it stopped plummeting.
03:02And the new update is trash.
03:04Yeah. And she even opened her whole message with like, you're my least favorite app anyway.
03:09So I feel like Snapchat, not a good week.
03:11I'm on that Insta Stories kick right now.
03:13Yes, me too. Apparently Rihanna too.
03:15Yeah, y'all are on thin ice right now.
03:17Anywho, more weird news. Kendall Jenner made headlines this week and it's not what you would think.
03:23So she came out for being heterosexual, which I didn't think it was something that you would do, but okay.
03:30She covered the latest issue of Vogue and was interviewed by Jonathan Van Meter.
03:34And it was a weird interview that I read.
03:37Kind of, I was eh about, I mean, I thought her cover photo was beautiful, but I'm a little mm
03:41about it all.
03:42Anyway, so the interviewer Jonathan said, basically point blank asked her, he was like,
03:46why does the internet seem to think that you are gay?
03:50First of all, I don't think that anyone should just point blank ask someone about their sexuality.
03:53It's up to them if they want to come out.
03:55Even though she's a celebrity and puts a lot of her life out there, like, it's a weird thing to
03:59ask.
04:00What do you guys think?
04:01I also think that, I think that the interviewer like outed himself as straight.
04:06Because I think that this whole conversation about Kendall Jenner being a lesbian was kind of like,
04:10started as like an inside joke amongst like lesbian Twitter and like lesbian Instagram,
04:14where they kind of like claimed her as their slash our own.
04:19But, you know, like I think that it wasn't that serious and like he really like tried to make Fetch
04:23happen
04:24and like make it serious news and it just wasn't.
04:26And like use it as a headline.
04:28Yeah, like, I don't know, it just felt very flat.
04:30I feel like he was kind of grasping at straws because Kendall Jenner, I think of all the sisters,
04:34is the least like scandalous.
04:35So he was trying to find like one thing to make into like a little bit of gossip about Kendall
04:39Jenner.
04:39But it was like, that's not really an appropriate thing to ask anyone.
04:42Definitely.
04:42And some people kind of, there was a little bit of backlash with her response because she said,
04:47I don't think I have a bisexual or gay bone in my body, but I don't know, who knows.
04:50I'm all down for experience.
04:53So people were like, is sexuality like an experience, like a game, like a Disneyland ride, you just go on?
04:58Or like what, like, so people found that to be problematic as well.
05:02I love that you both are looking at me right now.
05:04But I do want to say that sometimes I do think that like,
05:12actually sexuality can be, can be an experience.
05:15And it doesn't always have to be like this serious identity that we, you know,
05:20like sometimes it is just an exploration.
05:23I think that because sexuality exists on a spectrum,
05:26I think that it's very true that someone could identify as very heterosexual
05:29and still have sexual experiences that kind of span the gamut of what we think of as traditional heterosexuality.
05:35I don't think that she was trying to downplay it.
05:37I also don't, I think that we should actually leave Kendall Jenner on and let her identify as whatever she
05:42wants to identify as
05:43and mind our own business and think about our own sexual experience.
05:47I totally agree.
05:48Yes, I am for that.
05:49I'm all for the fluidity.
05:50All right.
05:50So another week, another week of Cardi B pregnancy rumors, speculation,
05:55except this time TMZ anyway is confirming that Cardi B may be pregnant.
05:59So basically sources close to her came to TMZ saying that she's actually in fact pregnant.
06:06She's been pregnant this whole time.
06:07By the time she performs at Coachella next month, she'll be about seven months,
06:10and she's expecting a baby this summer.
06:12Now, we don't, she hasn't confirmed herself.
06:15She even did an Instagram live last night where, to me, she doesn't,
06:19yeah, like she didn't really like, she just said she's been in the studio.
06:22That's why she hasn't been posting pictures.
06:24So she hasn't really confirmed anything, even in the past she has denied it.
06:28So I'm not really sure what's going on, but according to these sources,
06:31they say that her plan is have the baby in the summer,
06:33and she's still going on tour with Bruno in September,
06:36which would mean two months after she has a baby.
06:38So it sounds, yeah, I mean,
06:40it sounds like a crazy work schedule for anyone,
06:42but it's interesting because I feel like we're watching her go through this pregnancy speculation
06:46in the public eye.
06:47I think a lot of women deal with this, like, do I work up until the pregnancy?
06:51What do I do?
06:51But she's doing it in public in front of millions of people.
06:54What do you guys think?
06:54Do you think that that schedule sounds crazy?
06:57No, I think that that's the life of an entertainer.
07:01Right.
07:01They have nannies upon nannies.
07:03Their nannies have nannies to help take care of their kids.
07:06Because when you have millions of dollars on the line,
07:09like, you have to make a choice about whether or not you're going to bring your kid with you
07:13or have a nanny, have child care.
07:16I mean, when Beyonce was performing, rehearsing for the Super Bowl last year,
07:21Lulive was, like, on the field with her, just, like, watching her bust out choreography.
07:24Like, I think that women have to make decisions like this all the time.
07:30There are women who make a lot less money than Cardi B who have to make that decision
07:33to go right back to work, sometimes even sooner than two months.
07:37Maternity leave is obviously a big issue in this country right now.
07:39To me, it doesn't seem outlandish at all.
07:41I am very interested in why Cardi wouldn't just come out and say that she was pregnant.
07:48I'm curious about that because I do think that it's true.
07:50Even the live that you were talking about last night, it was from here up.
07:54Yeah.
07:54So, I feel like she has been intentionally wearing clothes that, like, hides her stomach.
07:59So, I don't know if she's trying to do, like, some mysterious Kendall Jenner.
08:02Kylie.
08:03Well, which one was it?
08:04Kylie.
08:04Kylie.
08:05Kylie, sorry.
08:06Kylie Jenner, you know.
08:08Yeah, yeah, because she's denied it in the past, too.
08:10Also, it's created a lot of publicity, right?
08:12Like, everyone in her Instagram stories last time were like,
08:13are you pregnant, are you pregnant, are you pregnant?
08:14Like, people are trying to tune in and see what she's doing all the time.
08:17But I totally agree with what you said, and I also think that people are just jealous.
08:20Like, if she can do it, she probably has the help to do it.
08:22She probably has grandmother's cousins, aunts, and so much of her family to help her.
08:26It's a lot of Latino households do.
08:28So, like, I don't.
08:29But I also wonder if maybe her silence is, she has a lot of money on the line.
08:32That's the thing that this TMZ thing was pointing out.
08:34Like, between Coachella and this tour with Bruno,
08:36I think she probably maybe has to make sure that, like, all of her ducks are in a row
08:39before she's like, okay, roll it, I'm pregnant.
08:41Kids are expensive.
08:42Yes.
08:43She's got to pay for it, y'all.
08:44She has to pay for kids.
08:45I'm excited to see our Coachella with you.
08:48Yes.
08:49We'll be there.
08:50Sorry, haters.
08:50Yes, I have.
08:52I feel like that was shade.
08:54No, I am not going to Coachella.
08:55Listen, if Cardi is maybe bumping around on that stage,
08:57you will be watching the whole thing live, so it's fine.
08:59Wow, that's so disrespectful.
09:02All right, guys, it's time to get lit.
09:04I feel like movies have been making such a splash this year,
09:07and it is only March.
09:09There's so many movies, even this weekend, that I'm so excited about.
09:12Tomb Raider with Alicia Vikander, she came into our refinery,
09:14and Love, Simon, starring Nick Robinson.
09:17This movie looks so, so cute.
09:19It's a heartfelt coming age story of a 17-year-old
09:22who falls in love with his anonymous classmate online.
09:25So I love this, like, millennial Gen Z vibe.
09:27And the story gets a little more complicated than that.
09:30Let's take a look.
09:32My name's Simon.
09:33I'm just like you, except I have one huge-ass secret.
09:37Everyone deserves a great love story.
09:39But for 17-year-old Simon, it's a little more complicated.
09:43Nobody knows I'm gay.
09:46Love, Simon is based on the 2015 best-selling novel
09:49Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
09:52and follows the coming-out story of a teenage boy living in the suburbs.
09:56What makes Love, Simon an interesting movie to see today
09:58is that we've never really had a coming-of-age high school movie
10:02with a gay lead.
10:03So this would be like if John Hughes' Ferris Bueller
10:06met Elio from Call Me By Your Name,
10:08you would get Love, Simon.
10:09Drink way too much iced coffee, watch bad 90s movies,
10:12and hang out at Waffle House, dreaming of college and gorging on cars.
10:16Love, Simon got a lot of things right
10:17about not only being a high schooler,
10:20trying to figure out friends and family
10:23and what you want to do with your future,
10:25but also in the way that it portrays
10:28a really wholesome look at a young gay teen,
10:33and the immediate reception has been really warm to that.
10:35The main conflict is not a man who's ashamed of being gay,
10:40but that he's just trying to figure out
10:42the next best step for himself.
10:44I just want you to know that I love you.
10:46I wouldn't change anything about you.
10:48I think that Love, Simon shows a very specific facet
10:53of a gay experience.
10:54Simon lives in a white, privileged suburb
10:57with very liberal parents
10:58who are obviously going to be understanding
11:00if he does choose to come out.
11:01And the fact that Nick Robinson, the lead,
11:04is actually a straight actor,
11:05I think is going to launch a conversation
11:08about representation in gay movies
11:10the same way that we've been having one
11:11about female-led movies.
11:14I'm done living in a world
11:16where I don't get to be who I am.
11:17I deserve a great love story.
11:19Love, Simon is paving the way
11:21for a bunch of upcoming LGBTQ films,
11:25two of them being The Miseducation of Cameron Post
11:28and Boy Erased.
11:29And those are about two teens
11:32being sent to gay conversion camps.
11:35And I think that having a mainstream movie
11:38like Love, Simon come before
11:40these two more intense, more serious looks
11:44at what it's like to come out
11:46and not so liberal and welcoming families
11:50will be really, really important
11:52in furthering the conversation.
11:54Sometimes I think I'm destined to care so much
11:56about one person, it nearly kills me.
11:58Me too.
12:00Everyone should see Love, Simon.
12:01It really is something that teens can go
12:04with their friends, parents can take their kids,
12:06kids can take their grandparents.
12:08It's like candy.
12:09It's great, it's fun.
12:11Disclaimer, this is about to get romantic as hell.
12:14Go see Love, Simon, which hits theaters today.
12:18I'm really excited for this movie.
12:19I love coming of, coming out, coming of age stories.
12:22Coming out, coming of age stories.
12:24Yeah.
12:24I think it'll be really cute and exciting
12:26and I love Catherine Langford from 13 Reasons Why.
12:28Yeah, this definitely feels in the same vein
12:29as like Lady Bird, call me by your name,
12:31all of these kind of like teeny bopper,
12:33like coming of age stories, but in a good way.
12:36So I think it's great.
12:38And I'm also just really excited
12:39because Natasha Rothwell,
12:40who some of you probably will recognize
12:42from Insecure, who's also a writer on Insecure,
12:45is in this movie.
12:46And I'm just really excited to see her again,
12:47getting some love.
12:48So cheers to her.
12:49Go for it.
12:50Yes, go ahead.
12:51All right, Love, Simon.
12:53All right, so next in Get Lit,
12:55we're talking Bruno Mars.
12:56So he's been in headlines this past week,
12:58thanks to a viral Twitter moment from last weekend.
13:00There's a writer and activist named Saren Sensai
13:04who basically talked in this video
13:06about how she believes Bruno Mars
13:08is guilty of cultural appropriation.
13:09She says,
13:22So I agreed with her point of that,
13:24especially coming, you know, with the Grammys.
13:26We know that the Grammys definitely has a race issue.
13:28It is crazy.
13:29She also pointed out that Prince never got a Grammy,
13:31but Bruno Mars has, which is insane.
13:34Yes, yes.
13:35Well, Prince never got a Best Album Grammy.
13:37I should clarify that, but still, yeah.
13:40So I did agree with her on that point,
13:42and I think that him being, you know,
13:44racially ambiguous is to his benefit for sure.
13:46But I also don't believe that Bruno Mars
13:49is guilty of cultural appropriation.
13:51I feel like, you know,
13:52as someone who grew up on this music,
13:54he's always talked about his love of Motown, doo-wop.
13:56You can see videos of Bruno when he was like five years old
13:59impersonating some of these artists.
14:00So I feel like, you know,
14:01the definition of cultural appropriation has to do with
14:03whether or not you give respect
14:04to the culture you're pulling from.
14:06I feel like he's always given that respect.
14:08And I think there are more problematic artists
14:10like Justin Timberlake or Miley Cyrus,
14:12who you can definitely kind of say,
14:14all right, y'all, like,
14:15y'all are not appropriately pulling from these cultures.
14:18But I don't think Bruno is guilty of that.
14:19What do you guys think?
14:20I definitely think that there are
14:22two separate conversations being had.
14:23And I think that there is the critique to be had
14:25of the larger music industry and the larger culture
14:27that basically says that things that black people do
14:30are only good and, like, worthy of praise and acknowledgement
14:33when non-black people do them.
14:34That is absolutely valid.
14:36That is absolutely a system that Bruno Mars benefits from
14:40that is an unfortunate consequence of racism
14:42and anti-blackness in our country.
14:44That is not the same thing as the act of cultural appropriating,
14:48which is where you extract from another culture
14:51for your own gain or entertainment,
14:54while also, like, distancing yourself from that culture.
14:57And I don't think that I can think of anyone else
14:59who has gone through the work of, like, immersing himself,
15:01like, in the culture of black music like Bruno Mars has.
15:05He produces all of his own music.
15:06He continuously collaborates with other artists.
15:08As you mentioned, he also gives credit to those other artists.
15:12And I think that we need to be able to separate those conversations
15:14to be able to say, hey, Bruno Mars is benefiting from a system
15:18that's really messed up.
15:19But that also doesn't necessarily mean that Bruno Mars himself is messed up.
15:22Like, what do we want him to do?
15:23Give his Grammys back?
15:24Yeah.
15:25Do we want him to not make music so that, you know,
15:28so that someone else can do it?
15:29Like, should he have chosen another career path?
15:31I mean, like, I think that Bruno Mars,
15:33we're going to see so much more of him.
15:34I think that he's going to put so many other artists of color on the map.
15:38I mean, I think that, honestly, like,
15:39even working with Cardi B was, like, a come-up.
15:42You know what I mean?
15:43I think that those are things that Bruno Mars can and does do.
15:46And I think that we just need to be able to, like,
15:47separate those conversations a little bit.
15:49Also, I will say,
15:51I'm not a Bruno Mars fan.
15:53I get, like, I like his voice.
15:55I like that he can dance.
15:57I think he's so talented, but it never comes together for me.
15:59So, like, there's not a single Bruno Mars song
16:01that I'm like, oh, yes, turn this on.
16:03This is a bop.
16:04Like, no.
16:04I love me some Bruno.
16:05He puts you, like, in a little good mood.
16:07He's adorable.
16:08You want to put him in your little pocket.
16:10But when he did an interview with Latina magazine,
16:12because he's actually half Puerto Rican and half Filipina,
16:14and he did an interview with Latina where he said,
16:17black people created it all from reggae, R&B, funk, doo-wop to Motown.
16:21So, in my world, black music means everything,
16:23which I thought was an important point.
16:24So, it's kind of like, no matter what kind of music you're really putting out,
16:27you could technically be, like, they're borrowing from black culture.
16:29Absolutely.
16:30I have to also say that when you went to the Grammys,
16:32and basically so many celebrities that have come through Refinery,
16:35like, whenever we ask them,
16:36who do you want to collaborate with,
16:37they always say Bruno Mars.
16:39Yeah.
16:39That is the number one person they want to collab with,
16:41and I think that speaks volumes.
16:42Yeah, I think he's one of those rare artists
16:43who really actually does cross between genres,
16:45and it's pretty seamless.
16:46So, I'd say props to Bruno Mars,
16:48but I definitely think we have bigger issues.
16:50If we want to call out people in the music industry,
16:52Bruno's probably not the top one on the list.
16:54When are y'all going to cancel Justin Timberlake?
16:56Okay.
16:57After the Super Bowl?
16:58Cancel Justin, okay?
17:00Sorry, boo.
17:00I used to love you, boo.
17:02Seriously.
17:03I'm going to take Miley with you.
17:06She's up in Malibu, like, with her horses and her goats.
17:10All right, speaking of more controversy,
17:12I am a die-hard fan of The Crown.
17:13Do you guys watch?
17:14Yes, I do, too.
17:15I'm a season behind.
17:16Okay, so that's good?
17:17Great, but I like that.
17:18I like the right season.
17:19When you have a free Saturday, girl,
17:21that second season is so good.
17:22It's an incredible show.
17:23It's one of the most expensive shows to make of all time,
17:25but let me tell you something.
17:27That gender pay gap is royalty screwed up.
17:31Yep.
17:31Variety reported that the main actress, Claire Foy,
17:33who plays the queen in the show The Crown,
17:36got paid less than her co-star, Matt Smith,
17:38who plays Prince Philip,
17:40for the first two seasons of The Crown.
17:42That is ridiculous.
17:44She's in literally every scene,
17:46and they credited this disparity
17:47because he was more famous from the show Doctor Who.
17:50I'm sorry, I've never seen that show, nor do I care.
17:52So nobody cared about Philip on that show.
17:54They all cared about, literally,
17:56Queen of the Girls all the time.
17:58Yeah, and so the producers now vowed
18:00that no one gets paid more than the queen,
18:02but what's kind of sucky about that situation
18:04is that Claire Foy isn't on the next season of The Crown.
18:07Right.
18:08What?
18:09Because, ooh, no, I'm not getting anything away.
18:11So The Crown is obviously following the life of the queen,
18:14so she gets older,
18:15so they have another actress playing Queen Elizabeth.
18:17Yeah, and all the actors, which is super exciting.
18:19I'm super excited for Olivia Colman,
18:21who's going to be playing the queen,
18:22but can we give Claire Foy?
18:24Can we, like, back pay Claire Foy?
18:26Because, like, that's crazy.
18:27Cut her a check.
18:28Yeah, so, I mean, what I'm happy about
18:30is that all these things are now coming to light.
18:32I feel like before people didn't talk about money
18:34the way they are now, but, like...
18:36I'm really surprised that in this era
18:38of us talking so much about equal pay
18:39that Netflix, of all places,
18:41who is, like, very much a big company right now,
18:43on a show about a queen surrounding a woman,
18:46like, I really thought that they would have been
18:47on top of something like that.
18:49Yeah.
18:50Awkward.
18:51They also need to pay Monique, too.
18:53Netflix, you know,
18:54y'all have a lot of things going on.
18:56I don't know who is doing the budgeting,
18:58but y'all need to get some diversity training
19:00in the finance department,
19:01because the way y'all are shaming women
19:04and women of color has to stop.
19:05Yep.
19:05But now, speaking of people
19:09who are not getting underpaid,
19:11it's time for the drop.
19:13As you all know, the queen, Beyonce,
19:16and Jay-Z, her opening act.
19:18I'm going to explore this summer
19:20for On The Run, too.
19:22Yes!
19:23Oh, my God.
19:24I'm so excited.
19:25And literally,
19:26this stadium tour
19:27is going to be the biggest event
19:28of the summer.
19:30The internet went into a frenzy.
19:32The pre-sale tickets went on sale
19:33on the 14th,
19:34which is Wednesday,
19:35and, like, everyone is like,
19:36what am I going to do
19:37to get these tickets?
19:38I'm going to go broke to do it.
19:40I'm filing for bankruptcy.
19:40I'm not paying rent.
19:41I'm selling organs.
19:42Like, whatever needs to be
19:43to get these tickets.
19:44I was like, Mom, hey!
19:45No, we literally all got information.
19:47Like, the whole refinery office
19:48was talking about it.
19:48We all have our tickets.
19:49All of us.
19:50It's done.
19:51Yeah, so you all got tickets.
19:52Yes.
19:52Obviously.
19:53Yes, great.
19:53We'll be there.
19:54Just making sure everyone's
19:55in formation.
19:55Great.
19:56Unlike when Black Panther came out,
19:58not everyone's in formation.
19:58I saw the movie, Cecily.
20:00It was unbelievable.
20:01So, you know, anyway.
20:02We're going to let that down.
20:03But this was obviously
20:04just such a huge moment.
20:06And what I really related to
20:07is people really kind of, like,
20:09lamenting about, like,
20:10okay, this is what it's like
20:11to be a Beyonce fan.
20:12She's not going to give you
20:13any notice.
20:14She could drop new music
20:16at any time.
20:16She could drop a video
20:17at any time.
20:17She could announce a tour
20:18at any time.
20:19So you need to have
20:19an emergency Beyonce fund.
20:23ready when you get a whiff
20:24that something might be
20:25happening because you
20:26always, you have to be there.
20:27You know it's going to sell out.
20:29You know it's going to be
20:29the biggest event of the year.
20:31Get in formation or get lost.
20:32I'm so excited.
20:33I cannot wait for this tour.
20:34I definitely think
20:35she's going to drop music
20:36before the concert.
20:36But it's so funny
20:37because literally everyone
20:38is referring to this
20:38as a Beyonce concert.
20:40Yeah, it is.
20:40One of my favorite memes
20:43was, like,
20:44Beyonce only included Jay-Z
20:45because she can't leave him
20:46at home alone
20:46for five months.
20:48But I was like,
20:48that's probably,
20:49maybe true.
20:50Listen, I love the first
20:51on the run show.
20:52It was one of my favorite
20:53concerts.
20:53It was a stadium show too.
20:54But that was before
20:55we knew all of the tea
20:56that Lemonade and 444 let out.
20:58So this is going to be
20:59very interesting to see
21:00how they perform together.
21:01I also just love,
21:02I think the dynamic
21:02is going to be really fun.
21:03I love that they're going
21:04to, like, come in and out,
21:05do stuff together or apart.
21:06Like, oh, it's just,
21:07I'm so excited.
21:08The days are,
21:09I know.
21:10They got to keep going.
21:11But I do love that
21:11that's the running joke
21:12that, like,
21:13Beyonce fans don't actually
21:15like Jay-Z anymore.
21:16So, like,
21:17it's like all these, like,
21:18It's hard to forgive and forget.
21:19It really is.
21:20I mean,
21:21and then she's going to,
21:21she's going to be performing
21:22the songs where she talks
21:24about what,
21:25oh, it's too much.
21:26She does, sorry.
21:27Ooh, we're going to have,
21:27anyway,
21:28carpet DM, you guys.
21:29It is hot.
21:30I know y'all aren't surprised
21:31when talking about my girl
21:31Jenny from the block.
21:32You know I love J-Lo.
21:33And she's on the cover
21:34of Harper's Bazaar this month.
21:35And this shoot was so,
21:37I thought it was so beautiful
21:38because there is a whole
21:39metaphor throughout of her
21:40kind of being on top
21:41of the world.
21:42She's tight roping,
21:43she's swinging
21:43at the top of the skyline.
21:45And it's a metaphor
21:46for her being kind of
21:46on top of the world right now.
21:48The article is a lot
21:49about how she doesn't
21:49get enough credit
21:50for the many things
21:51that she's done
21:51for women of color.
21:52She's behind the scenes a lot,
21:54not only as an actress
21:55and a performer,
21:56but she's also
21:56an executive producer,
21:57three shows.
21:58She does her
21:59all I have residency.
22:00She's also very active
22:01in Puerto Rico relief efforts.
22:03And on top of all that,
22:04you know,
22:04she's still doing
22:05World of Dance.
22:06Like, she's just
22:06all over the place.
22:07She has a movie coming out
22:08called Second Ass.
22:09Yes, and then she's doing
22:10two more movies later this year
22:11with female directors.
22:12So I was like,
22:12props for giving Jenny
22:13from the block some
22:15long-deserved credit.
22:16She still looks like that.
22:17I mean, her legs,
22:18that is the thing.
22:19She looks like that at HB.
22:20Yes.
22:21The interviewer also asked her
22:22about the importance
22:23of the Me Too movement
22:24and she says,
22:24I haven't been abused
22:25in the way someone would have,
22:26but have I been told
22:27by a director to take off
22:28my shirt and show my boobs?
22:29Yes, I have.
22:30But did I do it?
22:31No, I did not.
22:32When I did speak up,
22:33I was terrified.
22:33My heart was beating
22:34out of my chest.
22:35But I think ultimately
22:36the Bronx in me was like,
22:37nah, we're not having it.
22:38So that was just
22:39such a little J-Lo quote.
22:40I appreciated that she acknowledged,
22:42like she knows
22:43that this is difficult,
22:44but when it happened to her,
22:44she just had to be like
22:45not having it.
22:47Of course, she also
22:47talked about A-Rod.
22:48There's been speculation,
22:49like are they engaged?
22:50Is she ever going
22:51to get married again?
22:52She says that she
22:53does still believe in marriage
22:54and she believes in love,
22:55but she didn't say
22:55one way or the other
22:56if they have any marriage plans.
22:58They are so going to get married.
22:59They were power coupling it up,
23:00so I feel like
23:01it's only a matter of time
23:02before that happens.
23:03At this point,
23:03it doesn't matter though.
23:04Like, when you're J-Lo
23:05and you're A-Rod,
23:06do you have to get married?
23:07Right.
23:08She likes the production though.
23:10She likes the electrical.
23:11I would tune in
23:11for a live stream
23:12with the J-Lo A-Rod wedding.
23:14Absolutely.
23:14We'll be there.
23:15We'll crash that wedding.
23:16I would absolutely
23:17be on the street
23:18outside with my iPhone
23:19like, hey, I'm here.
23:20I'm in.
23:21But I really love
23:21how their family
23:22is like a little cute family.
23:23They are a little
23:24abundant family.
23:24I like that a lot.
23:26Yeah.
23:26All right, guys.
23:27Time for reset of the week.
23:28We haven't done this in a while.
23:29Reset basically means
23:30someone who
23:31messed up a little bit.
23:33Yeah.
23:33Needs to hit that reset button.
23:34Needs to lie again.
23:35Katy Perry needs
23:36to stop kissing people.
23:38I'm just going to say that
23:39right now.
23:40So the reboot
23:41of American Idol came back.
23:43I'm not sure
23:43if anyone watched it.
23:44But 19-year-old
23:46contestant named Glade,
23:47super adorable,
23:48walked into his audition
23:49and one of the judges,
23:50Luke Bryan,
23:51was like,
23:52have you ever kissed a girl
23:53and liked it?
23:53To which he responded,
23:54no, like I haven't kissed a girl
23:55because I've never been
23:56in a relationship.
23:57Super cute, whatever.
23:59Perry then took it upon her
24:01to order him
24:01to come over to her
24:02and be like,
24:04kiss me,
24:04kiss me on the cheek.
24:05So he does
24:06and then it's like,
24:07no, no, no,
24:07you didn't even make a sound.
24:08Kiss me again.
24:09So he does again
24:10and then when she does,
24:11she turns her head.
24:12Take a look at this clip right here.
24:13She turns her head
24:16and like,
24:17whoa.
24:17Yeah.
24:18Unacceptable.
24:19I don't know.
24:19The other judges
24:20like totally egged him on
24:21and it was just kind of like awkward
24:23but even worse
24:24that afterwards he goes,
24:25well, that's the first
24:26and then he has to do his audition.
24:28Imagine doing your audition
24:29after like a huge celebrity
24:30like, right?
24:32So he does an audition
24:33and then they're like,
24:34you're not good.
24:34You have to,
24:35Katy Perry goes,
24:36you were a little rushed.
24:37I'm sure he was totally shook.
24:38That was his first kiss
24:39on national television.
24:41First kiss
24:41with Katy Perry.
24:42Didn't even ask for it
24:43with cameras,
24:44with studio.
24:45Like, I don't know.
24:46I was just like
24:46a little concerned
24:47because while it's like
24:48ha ha fun and games,
24:49like I think if it was a man
24:50who was in this position
24:51with a 19 year old girl
24:52and he turned and kissed her,
24:54he would be fired,
24:55maybe arrested,
24:56completely.
24:56Like, so what do you guys
24:57think about this?
24:57Is there a double standard in play?
24:59First of all,
25:00the standard in play
25:01is that I think
25:01it was fake on stage.
25:03I just need to get that
25:04off my chest.
25:04I don't think that
25:05it was real at all.
25:08His reaction was a little,
25:10I don't know, surprised.
25:11I feel like Katy maybe
25:12was probably planning for it,
25:14but I don't know.
25:14But I feel like he definitely
25:16like seen.
25:17You think that he perfectly
25:18fell and looked shocked
25:19as he fell to the ground
25:20with his guitar
25:21and didn't damage anything
25:22or hurt himself?
25:22That's true.
25:23That's a good point.
25:24All right.
25:25That's possible.
25:26You know what?
25:26But you know,
25:27you know Cecily's
25:27the conspiracy theorist.
25:28Whatever.
25:30Hey, whatever makes good TV.
25:32Yeah.
25:33But let's say that
25:33it wasn't fake.
25:35Let's just say that
25:35it was not fake.
25:36I think that this is not
25:37the first time
25:39that I've seen
25:40like these moments
25:41where like big white
25:43pop star women
25:44like want to like
25:45impose their like
25:46sexuality on people.
25:47Remember when Madonna
25:48like took Drake's soul
25:50out of his body
25:50when the other kids
25:51saw his face
25:52that one time?
25:52And like then this
25:54and it's like guys
25:55first of all
25:55like just chill
25:57and like let's also
25:59try to like put
26:00into practice
26:01the things that we're
26:02the conversations
26:02that we're having
26:03about sexual assault
26:04and me too.
26:05Because I don't think
26:06that it sends a good message
26:07if we are representing
26:09like a double standard
26:10and I think that
26:10we could have had
26:11just as much
26:12of a meaningful moment
26:14just as much
26:14of a shocking moment
26:15if Katy Perry
26:16would have leaned over
26:17and been like
26:17do you want to kiss me?
26:18And then had him
26:20walk over
26:20and like be very
26:21shocked and blush
26:22it probably would have
26:23felt more authentic
26:24and real
26:25and it wouldn't have
26:27been as problematic.
26:28I'm also just kind of
26:29over Katy Perry.
26:30I mean Katy Perry
26:31is always towing
26:32the line of problematic
26:33and I'm like sis.
26:35Yeah.
26:36She's not having
26:36a very good month
26:37right now.
26:38The nun that she was
26:39in a legal battle
26:39with over her house
26:41she was in a legal battle
26:43with this property
26:44with this nun
26:45but wait it's actually
26:45not funny.
26:46It's really sad.
26:46The nun was in court
26:48about this issue
26:49and had a heart attack
26:50and died.
26:51In court.
26:52So now
26:53Katy Perry was there?
26:54No but it was about
26:55I think it was about
26:56their property battle
26:58because basically
26:59she was trying to purchase
27:00the land that was
27:01formerly a convent
27:02for her house.
27:03And they were like no.
27:04Yeah.
27:04They were like no
27:05because they were like
27:05we know your music
27:06we know you're very
27:07promiscuous.
27:08They were like
27:08you're not really
27:09the whole idea
27:11of being a nun
27:11and then the nun
27:12going through this legal
27:13battle passed away
27:14of a heart attack
27:14while in court
27:15so I don't know
27:16she had to die in court.
27:17Yeah Katy Perry needs
27:17to take a seat.
27:18Yeah so Katy Perry's
27:19having a rough month
27:20but I do think
27:20the main issue
27:21with that clip
27:22I think it was
27:22like the aggressiveness
27:23of it
27:24and it's really surprising
27:25with like all the
27:26conversations we're
27:26having right now
27:27that she wouldn't
27:27think to be like
27:28maybe I should ask
27:29or like be a little
27:30bit more gentle
27:31but I think she's
27:31always trying
27:32for the shock value
27:33and it never feels
27:33very genuine.
27:34Also pass it to the
27:35next round.
27:36Because I didn't know
27:37a nun died
27:37and I'm not ever
27:39at a loss of words
27:39but I'm shook.
27:40What?
27:41The nun died?
27:42Yes.
27:43But at least like
27:44pass the kids
27:45to the next round.
27:46If you're going to do
27:47that like let them
27:47at least continue
27:48you know what I mean?
27:49Yeah.
27:49I just thought it was a lot.
27:50That poor little
27:50conservative boy
27:51was not ready for Katy Perry.
27:52Wait the Katy Perry
27:52didn't make it to the next round?
27:53No.
27:55She was like
27:55you were really rushed
27:56and like shook.
27:57Because he was like
27:58yeah!
28:00He did an interview
28:04after where he was like
28:05I'm a conservative boy
28:06like I was raised
28:07to believe that
28:07like you don't
28:08and like he's
28:08I could
28:09that's why I don't
28:09think it's fake
28:10because I do feel
28:11like he's very like
28:13He has to go back home
28:14defiled by Katy Perry.
28:16He didn't get on the show.
28:17Yes.
28:18It's just like
28:18when Jay-Z made 444
28:19didn't even get a Grammy.
28:21Now you've soiled yourself.
28:22Yep.
28:24On that note
28:26have an amazing weekend guys.
28:27Thank you so much
28:28for joining us
28:29and we'll see you
28:29next week on The Men's Show.
