00:03What will bring change? Time. It just comes generationally, I think. I'm 66, so I get mostly
00:17things for people that age, and there aren't a lot of things, but they're wonderful, interesting
00:22projects that never would have existed, even 10 years ago. 20 years ago, I would have only
00:31been playing witches and crones and scary old ladies in terror movies. You just can't
00:42stop talking about it, even though people go, oh, are we going to talk about women's
00:49rights again? Yes, we're going to talk about it until there's balance. If the director's
00:55branch of the Academy were overwhelmingly female, there would be a hue and cry about it, I feel.
01:04Look at the critics groups across the country. How many women are in each critics group? It's
01:12surprisingly few. If it were just 50-50, if it were even 60-40, see, I'm willing to negotiate.
01:23If it were even that, it would be better than what it is, which is basically women have a 17
01:30%
01:34influence or less in every part of the decision-making process in the entertainment industry.
01:41I know I spent way too much, way too much time thinking about how much I weighed. It was a
01:47big
01:48waste of the minutes of my life. It's a visual medium. I don't bring a suitcase with my dossier.
01:56I bring this. And so we can't whine about the fact that it's show business. But the other side of
02:04it is
02:04that it's representing lives, and lives look all different ways, different shapes. And that is one
02:11thing I really do see is changing.
