00:01Hey guys, it's me, Jen, and I'm here with Refinery29 to show you some of my looks for the fall.
00:07So let's get started.
00:12So this is my first fall outfit, and I think this is perfect for Los Angeles autumns because it doesn't
00:17get too cold here.
00:19That's why I didn't wear a jacket. This scarf is going to do the job, and this is from Urban
00:23Outfitters.
00:24I really like the color palette on this because I think it's very warm and neutral, and it goes with
00:29any setting.
00:30The cap is from Brixton. The top and the shoes are both from Zara, and the busted holey jeans are
00:39from ASOS.
00:41So this is my outfit number two, and I love this one because of how Parisian it looks.
00:47It's probably because of the beret. Beret is from Pixie Market, and it's just a really crisp, simple outfit.
00:52You can't go wrong with a white button-down, which is what I have on.
00:56This one has a little bit of a twist, though, because it has this cute mesh layering on the bottom.
01:02The button-down is from Noon Bangkok, and to add some warmth, I threw on a chunky white cardigan.
01:09This one is from Foxy Docs, and I love it because it has the studs on the arms and all
01:13around the trim.
01:14And then to just kind of nude things out, I'm wearing my pumps from Zushu.
01:21So this is my last outfit, and definitely the vampiest.
01:24I absolutely love the use of texture here. I've got the flowy factor on this nice floral top.
01:30I've got the edge with the pleather skirt, and then I bring it all together with this structured blazer.
01:36And the fall elements of this outfit is definitely the beanie.
01:40It's going to keep my head warm and my ears.
01:43And I threw on some thigh-high socks because I really couldn't commit to pants.
01:48So a thigh-high sock is going to be perfect because if it gets too hot, I can always just
01:51take them off, roll them in my purse, and call it a day.
01:55The beanie is from Wild Fox. The top and skirt are both from Lucy Paris.
01:59The blazer is from Zara. Thigh-highs, Target, and the shoes are from Zushu.
02:05So those are my three outfits for fall. I hope this inspired you to create some autumn-inspired looks in
02:11your wardrobe. Bye!
02:17Hi guys, welcome back. I'm in front of Crossroads in Los Quilas.
02:21And I'm going to show you some tips and tricks on secondhand shopping.
02:25So let's head inside.
02:33So here are my three tips for thrift shopping slash consignment shopping.
02:37My first tip is to not be overwhelmed by all the different things that you see.
02:43So opposed to just looking rack after rack, I think the best thing is to look at the displays first.
02:49When I first go inside a thrift store or consignment store, my first thing is to beeline to the shoes
02:54because shoes are super easy for me to look at. They're all laid out. They're small, compact.
02:59You see your size right away, and the design is just right in front of you.
03:03I would recommend coming on a day where you're just completely free because you don't want to rush this process.
03:12So my next tip is to never rule out a certain size or a certain length.
03:17Always know that you can customize something.
03:20So for example, I found this really amazing maxi dress, but it's pretty freaking long, especially for my frame.
03:27As I've said a million times, I'm five foot one, so maxi dresses can be a little bit tricky on
03:32me.
03:33But what you can do is just get a pair of scissors, hack it off, and have it be more
03:38flattering to your figure.
03:40And this is a really great dress because it has a center as well, so you can kind of like
03:44play with where you want it to kind of hug your curves.
03:51So my last tip is to not rule out the men's section because the men's section can have some really
03:57amazing things.
03:58Every time I go there, I'm always praying for a really cool graphic tee or a band shirt
04:03because that's where things are really worn in, kind of oversized, loose, and comfortable.
04:08And you can also even find flannel there. I feel like a lot of styles are unisex, so men and
04:13women can rock the same style.
04:20Thank you so much. Thank you. Have a great day. You too. Bye. See you next time. Bye.
04:30Hey everyone, it's me, Jen, and welcome back. Today I'm at BookSoup, which is one of LA's most legendary bookstores,
04:36and I'll be showing you a few of my favorite books. Let's go.
04:48So the first book I picked out for you is Cough on the Shore by Haruki Murakami.
04:54He is one of my favorite authors by far because although he has usually bizarre and very surreal plotlines,
05:02his writing is really crisp and clever and just really sunk into my soul.
05:06And I feel like I read this book at the right time in my life because the main character is
05:11kind of searching,
05:12discovering, and finding out what he's missing in his life, and that's kind of what I was when I was
05:17in my early 20s,
05:18and so this book really hit home. If you're into just really mind-bending, surreal works of art, definitely check
05:25them out.
05:28My second book is 1984 by George Orwell, and this is a book that's usually assigned in high school,
05:34so if you are assigned to it, definitely enjoy it. This book is about a dystopia, and I love reading
05:39about them
05:40because I find them very fascinating. And in this world, there is no individuality, no rights,
05:46you can't even think the way you want, and if you are caught disobeying, the thought police will get you.
05:52If you want to find out more about it, definitely give it a read.
05:54I think reading this book can really appreciate having the freedom to express myself in whatever way I want,
06:00and I think people forget that that's a luxury to have.
06:07My last book is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, and I've spoken about this book before,
06:12but I'm just really adamant of having everyone read it at least once.
06:16Of course, this book is about another dystopia, but this time it's kind of like a feminist nightmare.
06:21In this book, women have no rights at all, and the main character is named Offred, so it's Offred,
06:28so she doesn't even have a real name anymore, and her only role in society is to reproduce,
06:33and it's pretty dark. The storyline just follows her experiences and what she has to do.
06:39And this book is pretty creepy because if women didn't take a stand for their rights,
06:43this is something that could potentially happen, so it's something that men and women should all read at least once.
06:51I had so much fun here at BookSoup telling you guys some of my favorite books I've had.
06:55I hope this inspired you to open up a book and get lost in the world of reading.
06:59Bye!
07:03Hey everyone, it's me, Jen, and we're doing a flashback Friday today.
07:07I picked out some pieces in my closet that I haven't worn in a really long time,
07:10and I'm going to try and revitalize them for current day.
07:13First up, I have this beautiful piece.
07:15This is kind of a tapestry blazer, and I thrifted it a long time ago at Goodwill,
07:20and I just can't get rid of it because it's such a unique and beautiful piece.
07:24I love how statement it is. You can really wear anything underneath it.
07:28So my second piece is this gorgeous snow leopard slash nautical top.
07:33It's nautical because it has this sailor flap right here, which I think is so cute.
07:37It's two of my favorite things. It kind of reminds me of like Sailor Moon
07:39because it's kind of like the outfit, but it's got a snow leopard print.
07:43Just a lot of things going on.
07:44And the last piece is this sweater.
07:47It looks like it's thrifted, but it's not.
07:49It's from Urban Outfitters, and I think this is just one of my favorite sweaters
07:53because it's so like everyday. You can really wear it anywhere.
07:56So now that I've introduced you to these three guys, I'm going to try my best to style them now.
08:08So this is my first look, and as you can see, I went totally black in inside
08:12because this tapestry blazer is quite a loud piece, but don't feel confined.
08:18You can pretty much wear anything with this tapestry blazer.
08:21I would even mix it with patterns such as a striped shirt or even like a cool graphic tee.
08:27The world is your oyster. Just do whatever feels right.
08:34All right, this is outfit number two, and as you can see, I really streamlined the outfit
08:42because this is a really boxy top.
08:45It could go very bad if I wore something super baggy.
08:52So this is my last look. I basically wore this sweater with a skirt this time
08:57because usually in the past I wore it with a lot of denim, leggings, super cash,
09:03so I wanted to elevate it a little bit.
09:12So those are three items in my closet that I just dug out and just revamped again.
09:17Hopefully that inspires you to go in your wardrobe and pick out something you haven't worn in forever.
09:22Bye!
09:26Hi, everyone. Welcome back.
09:28Today I'm going to be introducing you to one of the most creative and inspiring people in my life,
09:32Mr. Kate, so let's head inside.
09:39This is Kate of Mr. Kate.
09:41Yes.
09:42And you pretty much do everything.
09:44You design, you're a blogger, interior design, and now you're an author. Congratulations.
09:49Thank you so much!
09:50But I actually started out as a metalsmith.
09:53Oh, what?
09:53So I, you know...
09:54Oh my god.
09:55Guys, I feel like there's a lot of people out there that are like this.
09:58I started out with like an Etsy store and now have like a brand built around, you know,
10:03the products and jewelry, but then also the other stuff that we do is like content and video and all
10:08that stuff.
10:09And I just like love how your pieces are so whimsical and very you.
10:11I would love to just add some accessories to give my outfit a little bit more personality.
10:16Perfect.
10:17All right.
10:18So let's crack this open.
10:19Get in there.
10:20Ooh.
10:22Ooh, this is cool too.
10:23Oh yeah, that...
10:24Oh my god, you need to put that on.
10:25Here we go.
10:26Yay!
10:27Okay, wait.
10:27Oh god, oh god, oh god.
10:28No, no, you're good, you're good.
10:29You're good.
10:31Okay.
10:32Wait, so you, what about this?
10:33How about like a long sit?
10:34Oh yeah, it's perfect.
10:35Like if we're layering and it's silver.
10:37Oh, that works.
10:38This works.
10:39Look how cute!
10:40Yeah, right?
10:41Okay.
10:41So let's get these on you and then let's take some like street style pics.
10:45Lens flare.
10:46Yes.
10:46Yes.
10:47Yes!
10:52So now we're gonna do a fun little DIY, right?
10:55Yes!
10:55We love DIYs at Mr. Kate.
10:57That's a big part of our brand too.
10:59Of course, the book.
11:00Oh.
11:00Da-da-da-da-da.
11:02Yes.
11:02Ta-da!
11:03It had to have a ton of DIY projects.
11:06So there's 50 DIY projects in the book.
11:08Wow!
11:09Pretty and prickly.
11:10And we're gonna give these practices, I guess there's some succulents in here too.
11:14We're gonna give them some bling.
11:16Alright, ready?
11:17Ready?
11:18Yeah!
11:19Yeah!
11:20It's literally a little bling to the counter.
11:21It's too bare.
11:22So this is a great way to upcycle the earrings that maybe you only have one of.
11:28Oh, there you go.
11:29Oh, cool!
11:29So you just kind of pierce it and the cactus will kind of grow around the post.
11:35Mm-hmm.
11:36And it'll just wear the jewelry for forever.
11:38And you'll have a pretty and prickly little front.
11:40Cute.
11:41Yay!
11:42Look!
11:45Oh!
11:46Oh my god!
11:46Cute!
11:47It belongs there.
11:48It looks so perfect.
11:52Hey guys, it's me, Jen, here with Refinery29.
11:55And as I've mentioned before, I'm a shorty.
11:58But today I'll be showing you some tips on how I make myself look taller.
12:06My first tip is all about hemlines.
12:09Dresses to be specific because they can go very wrong if they're at a weird length.
12:14My favorite length for a dress is one that hits mid-thigh.
12:18If it's maybe two or three inches above the knee, I find that that is the most proportionate for short
12:23people like me.
12:24I find that if you're wearing a dress that goes beyond the knee, it can look like you're drowning in
12:29fabric.
12:29So I would avoid that.
12:36My second tip is all about footwear.
12:39So the most obvious pair of shoes are heels.
12:42But I find that platforms will give you the height and you can have your comfort as well.
12:51I love wearing nude platforms because it just really streamlines the leg and makes your legs look even longer.
13:01Another option for a pair of shoes are ankle boots.
13:04And I find when I'm looking for the perfect ankle boots for shorties, the ankle part needs to be as
13:10fitted as possible.
13:11Not too tight so it's constraining you, but just tight enough to show off your legs.
13:18So my last tip is actually not about styling, but it's about how you can look taller when someone else
13:24is taking a photo of you.
13:30When you're taking your OOTD, have the person crouch down.
13:34Not just lower, but physically like kind of squat down.
13:37Because that way it just really lengthens your legs and makes you look taller.
13:41When someone takes a photo that goes above, like a weird MySpace angle, it's just going to make you look
13:48shorter and stumpier.
13:52I hope all you shorties out there found this video very helpful.
13:55You don't have to be tall to look tall.
13:58Bye!
