00:00Hi everybody, it's Angelo. Welcome to My Sweet Digs. You can come in, we'll get some coffee, maybe some tea,
00:06and you can get comfortable.
00:07All right, let's go. Come, come. I live in the West Village in New York City, and I pay $2
00:12,500 a month.
00:13For all of you that think that that is expensive, it is. You're correct.
00:17But I live in this awesome city with all of this awesome culture. I'm willing to pay the price.
00:25When I first saw this place, it was honestly covered wall-to-wall in this canary yellow.
00:32Colors like that in a small space can really close up a space.
00:35The first thing I asked for was to paint all of the walls just stark white.
00:40They asked, like, oh, are you sure you don't want cream? Like, no.
00:43I like things to be clean and open, but they don't necessarily have to be uniform.
00:47Even though everything's white, like, there's still just a little pop of something.
00:50This is my most sacred space in the whole apartment.
00:53I actually do use this kitchen. I love to cook.
00:55My grandmother is from Spain, and she's actually the one that raised me.
00:58So when I grew up, like, the kitchen is where we gathered.
01:02Like, I did my homework on the counter. We ate together every night.
01:05I have a nice little cooking triangle here.
01:08Everything is, like, very nice and compact.
01:11I have this really old bubble gum dispenser that used to be in our house.
01:15It still works.
01:16This is from my grandmother's collection.
01:19She always had, like, different, like, serving ware for, like, whatever mood she was in.
01:23I like to give these as gifts to people who are just getting married or just moving into a new
01:28space.
01:29And so if you know me and you've received salad serving things, that's why.
01:35Because I love you.
01:36I have these ferns.
01:37The Pacific Northwest in me really, really wanted to keep these ferns in New York City alive.
01:42There is fresh green in there, but there's also this lot of dead.
01:46You know, the bathroom, it's pretty big as far as New York standards go.
01:51I am executive producer for Beauty Videos at Refinery29, so with that comes a lot of product.
01:57I have sort of organized this in terms of things that I know that I use all the time,
02:03but also things that I forget that I have because that's the thing about having a lot of stuff.
02:08You forget that you have it.
02:09I have a tub, though, y'all.
02:11I have a freaking tub.
02:13This is my living room area.
02:16I really like how this room is separate from my bedroom so that when I have guests over,
02:23we can all kind of gather in here.
02:24Because I had this long wall here, I was able to put in an extra-long couch,
02:28which is awesome because I have more seating.
02:29This is from All Modern.
02:31So then I found this extra-long coffee table that matches and it flows really nicely with the space.
02:36For all of you mid-century mod furniture buffs, this is an actual Lane furniture piece.
02:41And then my dresser is from All Modern as well.
02:43This is sort of the place where all the artifacts of my life are housed.
02:47These are like little things that I found in my grandma's side table and they didn't know.
02:53This is like a tiny little section for where I could keep my books.
02:57There are many more in my closet.
02:59Some may call me crazy, but I did move from Seattle to New York with all of my magazines, which
03:07is nuts.
03:09Coming in to the bedroom area, I'm really fortunate in that I get all this natural light because that affects
03:15me.
03:15I know that I love to wake up with the sun.
03:18Let me turn your attention this way.
03:19If there were a fire in here, I would like grab this area and run.
03:24So my grandfather passed away before I was born.
03:27He was a very, very good artist.
03:29He really loved to paint in the style of Norman Rockwell.
03:33This is my favorite piece.
03:35I also kind of die over the fact that she has this ankle bracelet on.
03:40How do you even do that with like acrylic paint and monochromatic?
03:44I love to just think about like what this woman must have heard on the other end of that phone.
03:48And then this is a picture of my grandma and me.
03:52Let us not forget my master's degree.
03:55I'm very proud of this.
03:56I used to be an architect when I lived in Seattle before moving to New York.
03:59I used to design schools, K through 12.
04:02I did that for six years before I switched, left the profession, went to go work at Nordstrom,
04:09worked in video there, and then now I live in New York and I couldn't be happier.
04:12This is all great and everything, but truly I think what you came here for is to take a peek
04:17at the closet.
04:18Are you ready?
04:20All right, here we go.
04:22I need a little bit more fanfare.
04:26You can kind of come in a little bit.
04:28It's pretty spacious as far as New York is concerned.
04:31If you look around, there's like shoes up here, shoes in the back.
04:34I can have less clothes probably, but the shoes have got to stay.
04:38These are my favorite pair of shoes that I own, but they're like so delicate and they do not go
04:42outside.
04:43Oh my God, you guys aren't even ready.
04:44You guys aren't ready for this.
04:46Purple python heels.
04:47Like, do you die?
04:49These were originally $800 and I got them for $130.
04:55It's a pretty good deal.
04:57So, my most favorite dress is this dress from my grandma.
05:01This is her house dress.
05:03I wear something of my grandmother's almost every day.
05:05Today I'm wearing her earrings.
05:06Just having a little bit of a reminder of her every day really just helps and is lovely, I think.
05:12I moved from Seattle to New York about two and a half years ago.
05:15I looked for a sublease in Manhattan and found the place next door to this place.
05:20I started separating the recycling of all my neighbors and the superintendent came out.
05:24And then he really liked my recycling and offered me a place next door.
05:29Which is here.
05:29My superintendent really loves to play the drums.
05:31It's just like...
05:35Also, there is a neighbor that has a bird that sounds like a child crying.
05:40These are like New York things.
05:41Something that I want in my next apartment.
05:44Space.
05:45And maybe a door that would separate my bedroom and my living room.
05:49Is that really too much to ask?
05:50A door, peeps!
05:52Things like laundry and a dishwasher would be really cool.
05:56But I feel like I left that on the West Coast.
05:58And like those things are unicorns here.
06:00I am just so happy that I was able to find this apartment.
06:04It's just a nice quaint neighborhood full of coffee shops.
06:07I can walk to the coffee shop.
06:09I can walk to the grocery store.
06:10The sun sets on this side.
06:12So it's awesome.
06:13Like it really...
06:14There's really nothing more I could ask for.
