00:00And then you're gonna take it and you're gonna wipe it on.
00:03Why am I so nervous? My heart's beating fast.
00:08I've tried every self-tanning product underneath the sun,
00:11so today we're gonna teach you everything there is to know about it.
00:15This is Self-Tanner 101.
00:16And I am a total self-tanner novice, so I've had a couple bad experiences,
00:21but Sam here is an expert, so I can't wait to learn more about these products.
00:26Product number one for beginners is this sheet mask from Saint Tropez.
00:29I love masks, so I feel like this is perfect.
00:32Yes. Saint Tropez took that idea and turned it into a self-tanning sheet mask
00:37with DHA and hyaluronic acid to hydrate your skin.
00:41DHA is basically a colorless sugar that, when it touches your dead skin cells,
00:45it'll actually darken.
00:46For any beginner, if you don't know, you need to exfoliate your skin
00:49to use self-tanning products because of the DHA.
00:52Since it latches onto the dead skin cells, you want to make sure that you don't have a layer of,
00:56like,
00:56sloughed off dead skin that's going to fall off immediately because then your tan's not going to last.
01:01It looks like any other cotton sheet mask.
01:03Literally the same.
01:04It's super easy to figure out.
01:07Just pull it off.
01:08You just put it on your skin.
01:10This can go on after your nightly treatment, after you wash your face,
01:13your makeup's completely off, you're about to head to bed.
01:16The next product we have here is from Josie Moran,
01:18which is actually the first tanning product I ever use.
01:20It is that simple.
01:21This, as opposed to a mousse or a lotion that you may have seen anywhere else,
01:25this is a tanning oil and it uses argon, so that means it's very, very hydrating.
01:30How does this work?
01:31You put it on and then you rub it in with the mitt?
01:33Yeah.
01:34You pop it in and then you just move it on your arm, like this.
01:38And this is actually really great.
01:39This is why it's so good for beginners, is it's not a very intense tan that you may feel uncomfortable
01:44with it.
01:44So while you're kind of gaining your momentum in the self-tanning game,
01:49I would highly recommend a tanning oil.
01:51We're on the round two intermediate level.
01:53If you are self-tanning every single week, you want something that's going to maintain it.
01:58So I would highly recommend a moisturizer to use after you get out of the shower.
02:02You can just take this, put it on your skin.
02:05It doesn't look like anything, so again, you're not going to get any streaks at all.
02:08This is very simple to use.
02:10It has no fragrance at all and it's also organic.
02:13This you can't see.
02:14So if you can't see the actual self-tanner you're putting on,
02:17it might be harder for someone who's a beginner to see where there are streaks,
02:20spots they possibly miss, where it's getting blotchy.
02:22That's perfect.
02:23I feel like I always end up with streaks.
02:24So let's move on to a very, very important step in self-tanning experts' lives.
02:29It is tanning mousse.
02:30And this is where we get to break out the mitts, right?
02:32Oh, absolutely.
02:33You don't want to apply any self-tanner with your hands unless it's a lotion or an in-shower,
02:37just because it's going to get in the inside of your hands and they're going to look very orange,
02:41and you're not going to get an even application.
02:43So this one's from Vita Liberata and I have to say this is just a fan favorite amongst self-tanners.
02:48It's a great brand.
02:49You're going to take a couple pumps like this.
02:52Oh, whoa.
02:52The key part is you don't want to just put this right on your skin.
02:55You want to actually even it out, mush it up like this.
02:59Oh, yeah.
03:00Oh, wow.
03:01So it already looks darker.
03:03Yes, so that is a self-guide color.
03:05DHA, the self-tanning active ingredient, actually is colorless, but a lot of companies will dye
03:11it, so you can see where you're applying the self-tanner, and that's what you'll often
03:15hear referred to as self-guide color.
03:17It's not going to end up like that color on your skin, but it's just showing you where
03:21you're putting the tanner.
03:22It shows you where you put the tanner.
03:23That's a good guide.
03:23Okay.
03:24How dark it might be.
03:25The dyed DHA is what's going to stain your sheets, your clothes, and going to leave streaks
03:29if you leave it on for too long.
03:30So you just want to make sure you rinse it off.
03:32So round three, expert level.
03:34These are actually tanning towels that I use every single day before I put on my makeup.
03:39On your face or your body?
03:40Or both?
03:40So these ones are used for your body.
03:42They can also be used for your face if you'd like, but these ones are specifically
03:45only for your face to give you a light glow.
03:48These are by Dr. Dennis Gross.
03:50They're just his AHA glow pads.
03:52He's known for these just because they have a chemical exfoliant in them.
03:56Interesting.
03:57Now this is the key part, is that since most self-tanning routines require exfoliate and
04:01tan, exfoliate and tan, this just does it all in one.
04:04So you're exfoliating and you're tanning at the same time?
04:07Absolutely.
04:08That's the best part.
04:09You would use this for your face, but you would just take it and just rub it all over
04:12your skin.
04:13And that's it.
04:13And you want it just on clean, dry skin.
04:15It's nice, right?
04:16There's so much product on it too.
04:18It's a lot of product.
04:18And you want to make sure if you're using this one on your face, you take it down your neck
04:22as
04:22well.
04:22That's a really big tanning faux pas is when your neck is a different color than your face,
04:28and then the rest of your body is also another color.
04:30And to be fair, that happened to me literally last week.
04:32I was like, Sam, help me.
04:34That happened.
04:34With self-tanner, like a lot of people get it on their nails, their hands, their feet.
04:38What's your tip for that?
04:39Take a makeup wipe and they'll just wipe down your fingernails and your toenails and then
04:44the palms of your hands.
04:45So you wash your hands after you apply anything?
04:47Immediately.
04:47Before the DHA can really activate, it'll still get a little tan but not too bad.
04:51The last one, the expert level, is my favorite.
04:53It's the newest on the market and it's a little magical.
04:56It's super exciting.
04:57It's from Tan Luxe and it's their hydrating self-tanning water.
05:01Tan Luxe is adamant about this.
05:04That DHA does not need color.
05:05You don't need to ruin your sheets or your clothes or anything.
05:09You can have a clear self-tanner and it totally works.
05:11This just sprays right on.
05:14So you're going to take it and just spray it directly on your skin.
05:16Then you're going to take a mitt and you're going to rub it in.
05:19It's beautiful too, I have to say.
05:21Do you spray this on your face also?
05:23I would always use a face product for your face just because you're not going to use your body lotion
05:27on your face.
05:27It's just going to be a lot more pore clogging than something that's actually created for your skin on your
05:32face.
05:32But this is really great just to refresh your body.
05:35So there you have it.
05:36Self-tanning is a lot easier than people would have you to believe.
05:38Whether you're a beginner or a total expert, it's very easy and very manageable to do at home.
05:43And the best part is you can get a tan year-round without baking in the sun.
05:47Honestly after today, I feel like everything was really manageable and I feel like I have a better idea of
05:51self-tanner.
05:52And honestly, I feel inspired.
05:53Thanks so much for watching.
05:54We'll see you next time on Beauty and a Snap.
05:56Bye!
05:57Bye guys!
