00:00It's so weird on my way to work, like, when I'm looking at people, I look at their noses.
00:05I'm like, oh wow, the tip of their nose looks really great in proportion to where their
00:10eye line is, and their bridge is so narrow, and it looks good on their face shape.
00:16I, like, I fixate on people's noses.
00:25My nose has been a consistent insecurity before I even knew, I guess, what insecurity really
00:35meant.
00:36It is the first thing that I see when I look in the mirror.
00:39This is not just a stroke of a brush or a lip injection or something like that.
00:44If this is what it takes to help you feel more confident in your own skin, then I'm
00:51behind you.
00:51I'm here.
00:52Let's go for it.
00:53And I think you should tell your story.
00:55Oh, ash-cash-pagash.
00:58My mom brought all of these pictures that she found.
01:04I said, do you have any pictures from the day that the dog bit off my nose, my left nostril?
01:09And she said, no, I didn't take any pictures.
01:12When I was two and a half, I was attacked by a dog.
01:15I had immediate surgery to reattach the nostril.
01:18And then for my 21st birthday, I had a reconstructive surgery.
01:23Now we're here again.
01:27I'm getting this surgery because I wasn't completely satisfied with the way that it went the last
01:37time.
01:38I just wanted to look the way that I envisioned that it could look.
01:45I think I was inspired by stories that I'd read on Refinery about women and fixed it whatever
01:52way they want to, whatever way they can.
01:54I have like a little butt.
01:55You see it?
01:56It's like a crack.
01:57It's so cute.
01:58It's a butt crack.
01:59Like maybe one day I'll shave it.
02:01It may be petty and trivial to everyone around me looking in, but you can be a confident
02:09person and you can love your life and love your job and love your friends and still have
02:15something that you're insecure about.
02:17We're on our way to meet Dr. Giacono for the final consultation.
02:22She's really nervous.
02:24Yes, I am nervous.
02:25But I'm excited to meet him.
02:27I'm glad we get to meet him before the surgery.
02:29She's going to tell him what to do.
02:32Hi, Hannah.
02:33How are you?
02:33Good.
02:34How are you?
02:35I'm Dr. Giacono.
02:35It's nice to meet you.
02:36Good to meet you too.
02:37I'm Jenny, Hannah's mom.
02:38Jenny?
02:38So how are you guys doing today?
02:40Good.
02:40Good.
02:41So I'm going to give you a mirror.
02:42A magic mirror.
02:44A magic mirror.
02:46A magic mirror.
02:46I just want you to point out all the things that bother you about the way your nose is
02:50right now after everything.
02:51When I smile, the tip looks to me bulbous and very rounded and a little bit higher than
03:02I would like it to be.
03:04What we need to do is we need to do something to build the tip up.
03:08Meaning not out this way, but so that we have a tip defining point and more cartilage
03:13in this part of your nose down here.
03:15Yeah.
03:16I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be able to use a normal cartilage from her ear.
03:20And she has great structural features, but the nose is too small for the rest of her
03:23face.
03:25Continuously reducing a nose, nose after nose job is what creates more of a collapsed,
03:29pinchy, and upturned nose.
03:30It's going to really change the aesthetic balance of your face.
03:33If you had this problem, you've been through some surgery, and unfortunately you're
03:37in a situation where you're just not happy.
03:39To hear another person say, I see it, I get it, makes me feel like I just felt really supported.
03:46My hope is that third time's the charm.
03:48Long surgery.
03:50Cheers.
03:51It's limoncello.
03:59So it's 6.40, I haven't eaten since midnight last night, and surgery is in 20 minutes.
04:06I just took half of a nausea pill, because sometimes the anesthesia can make you feel
04:11really dizzy.
04:14So, I'm hoping, hoping, hoping for the best.
04:20We're going to the endoplasty today, correct?
04:22Yes.
04:23So there's a few papers that are highlighted, and you want me to read and then sign.
04:26There's a possibility that surgery will cause a hole in the nasal septum.
04:31Where do I sign?
04:33This is the truth about cosmic surgery.
04:35Everybody does lots of things to maintain their appearance.
04:37Right.
04:37Everybody.
04:38So everybody, you know, gets their hair colored, they do their nails, they use makeup,
04:43they wear nice clothes that are good fitting for their body type.
04:46All these things speak to a very basic human need to feel confident about your appearance.
04:50You'll spend a lot more money on your hair and your nails over a lifetime than you can
04:54spend on this procedure.
04:55You ready?
04:56Ready.
05:01Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow.
05:10Hello.
05:11Hello.
05:12How are you?
05:12I'm good.
05:13How'd it go?
05:14Everything went perfect.
05:16Yeah.
05:17I'm so happy with it.
05:18I mean, everybody said it.
05:20It looks better than what we discussed in the image.
05:24Hey, girls.
05:26Hi.
05:27Good news.
05:28I didn't die.
05:32Bad news.
05:33I'm really fucking thirsty.
05:35What have you guys been doing all day?
05:38Did you go to Coney Island?
05:42It's going great.
05:44Right out of the box.
05:48You know that song, Dick in a Box?
05:50Did you ever hear that?
05:51I've heard that before.
05:53It's my nose in a box.
05:59I'm relieved.
06:00It's done.
06:01I'm ready to sleep.
06:03I love you.
06:05I love you.
06:06But get out.
06:09It's Thursday afternoon, and I am back at the office.
06:14She got her nosey.
06:15This is my bitch.
06:17Hi.
06:18How do you feel, hon?
06:20I feel okay.
06:21I wish I could, like...
06:24Today, my cast comes off.
06:28I'm so excited.
06:30Hey, you been good?
06:31Yeah.
06:32I know that your nose feels like it's clogged.
06:34Yeah, that's good.
06:35We're going to unclog it a bit today.
06:36Well, this is going to be a little comfy thing.
06:38Oh.
06:40This is going to be a little comfy thing.
06:44So, the cast is off.
06:47I knew that I wasn't going to be happy, and I know that you're still super swollen, and
06:53it doesn't look like it's going to, but there was still this overwhelming sense of disappointment.
07:00It takes up to six weeks, really, for all the swelling to kind of subside, so that's
07:05hard.
07:07That's hard because I feel great, and I have to kind of just be patient now, and now it's
07:17kind of just like a healing and waiting game.
07:22Exactly one month ago, I got my nose job.
07:26Snacks.
07:27Snacks.
07:28Snacks.
07:28And it feels really great.
07:31The whole experience has been really positive.
07:34I feel so happy and so confident and so content now.
07:40This has just been so freeing for me.
07:42Someone once told me that I was an insecure person with moments of security, and now I
07:48think I'm a secure person with moments of insecurity.
07:53I might have zits.
07:57At least my nose is cute.
07:59I think I still fixate on people's noses because that's just something that I do.
08:04I don't look at them and fixate on them with envy anymore.
08:08I look at them and I think, oh, that looks great, but mine does too.
08:11I know that it looks great.
08:11I'm sure.
08:12I see that there.
08:13I can see that there's no way out of my mind that I can really do.
