Founded in 2004, the Circle of Health International (COH) is a nonprofit aid organization working specifically with female refugees.
Transcript
00:1080% of the world's refugees are women and children, yet they are often the last to receive care.
00:18Circle of Health International's goal is to be the connector between those women, those children, and their displaced communities,
00:26and the larger organizations that are trying to reach them and to be of service.
00:31Imagine you don't have a safe place to give birth. Imagine you don't have a clean place to give birth,
00:38or diapers for your baby.
00:41The women and children that Circle of Health International is helping are without the basic necessities.
00:49As a mother, I've been through three pregnancies, three births, and I've seen the importance of having great doctors,
00:56the importance of having access to a modern hospital and medical staff, and also all the things that you need
01:02to bring a baby safely into this world and home.
01:07What impresses me so much about the work that Circle of Health International does, and the work that Sarah Bond
01:13spearheads,
01:14is that she's going in on a grassroots level to help pregnant women and midwives and doctors on the ground
01:21provide the resources that women need to deliver babies safely.
01:24We've targeted midwives as our primary partners because in 2004, when we started the organization, one of the things that
01:32we had observed was that midwives were often left out of the large humanitarian responses.
01:38And they are key stakeholders. If you are introduced to a community through their midwives, there's a level of trust
01:44embedded in that introduction that cannot be replicated.
01:47There's a lot of unknowns when you're pregnant, and it doesn't always mean that you're going to have a healthy
01:53baby at the end.
01:54And if you don't have a team or just the basic necessities to get by during pregnancy and after birth,
02:03I just can't imagine not being able to receive the support and the security of my health or my baby's
02:10health.
02:10From the moment of being pregnant through pregnancy to birth, these are huge, incredible, life-changing things that go on
02:17for you emotionally, physically.
02:20And to be able to bring life into this world is one of the best blessings we have.
02:25And knowing that each one of your donations goes towards actually helping a mother and a baby in need, it's
02:31the most important moment to me.
02:33It's the start of someone's life. So if you can start it off on the right track, I feel like
02:36that is the best chance someone gets.
02:39When a natural disaster strikes, when a humanitarian crisis is upon us, Circle of Health International is on the ground
02:48helping these women and babies and keeping them safe.
02:52Maternal health is the most important thing to me, and being able to be part of something that gives that
02:57care to other mothers and children is the most rewarding thing I can do.
03:01We believe in the power and the relevance of small community-based organizations that change happens one mother, one birth
03:09at a time.
03:10It costs $60 a month to feed a woman in one of the communities in need for one month.
