00:00My thoughts on election season, this go-around, well, I've had to turn the TV
00:08off a lot of times because it's so terrifying to me. There's like the
00:14ever-looming threat of a Donald Trump presidency. 63% of us say Donald Trump
00:22scares us. Only 63% of us? I mean, even if you like him, you have to be a little
00:28scared by him.
00:3178% of young women in America believe that this election will make a real
00:35difference in their lives. But only 49% of us feel like the candidates are
00:40speaking about issues that truly matter. Almost 51% of the US population are women.
00:46So here's what's on our minds and what every presidential candidate needs to hear.
00:5421% of us believe that student loan debt is the most important issue in this election.
01:00It's something that I worry about daily. Am I a bad person because I can't afford my
01:05school loans? It's scary. It's something that I'd never thought in high school,
01:13applying for school or even in school, that I would have to deal with. I don't
01:17regret. I loved college and I want to be as educated as possible. But it needs to be
01:24more affordable for people. Even preparing for when I, you know, one day get married
01:30or have kids and just thinking about like meeting my other half and having to tell
01:36him, you know, this is the number that my debt is at.
01:4111% of us believe that abortion access is the most important issue. In the past four years,
01:49288 restrictive measures limiting access to abortions have been passed at the state level.
01:55That is insane to me. Insane.
01:57The majority of women who seek an abortion actually already have a child. They know what
02:02it takes and they know the kind of money and resources that go into it. And when they
02:07can't decide the timing and the spacing of their children, that really, really puts their
02:12earning potentials at risk. Eleven percent of us believe that equal pay is the most important
02:18issue in this election. As a woman, obviously, I'd like to be considered for the jobs that
02:24my male counterparts are up for and to know that I may not be making the same amount as
02:28them. It's frustrating being that it's 2016. A lot of us are the breadwinners of our families.
02:35We are single parents. We are single women, such as myself, who are paying our own mortgages
02:41and paying our bills, and we want to save for our future. And women are earning about
02:45around 79 cents for every dollar that a man makes. That adds up over days, over months,
02:52over years, and can end up with women losing tens of thousands of dollars during their career,
02:58if not even more. I think income inequality is one of the greatest issues that we have.
03:03The divide between the upper class and the lower class broadens every year. A smaller percentage
03:08of Americans own more income every year. And I think capitalism as it stands now hasn't
03:15been effective. Every issue ultimately feeds into economic inequality. We still have it because
03:22we've created the system that really benefits one type of people. The thing that scares me
03:28the most is gun control. I just, I can't even fathom why anyone wouldn't want stricter laws on guns.
03:37There were 372 mass shootings in 2015. That's more than one for every day of the year.
03:44I think I was a freshman when Columbine happened. My parents are both teachers, so I felt their fear,
03:51and I felt their concern, not only obviously for us, but also for themselves. That was, you know,
03:561999, and now we're in 2016, and it feels like there's been nothing resolved. We have to have a real
04:05discussion about what the Constitution intended when the Second Amendment was created. We were talking
04:09about old-fashioned arms, and we were talking about a form of government that you could protect
04:16yourself against. I think the Founding Fathers might have a different opinion about the fact
04:21that you can buy an M16. Thirteen percent of young Americans think climate change is the most important issue.
04:28If we elect a candidate who doesn't even believe that climate change is real, who believes that
04:34climate change is a myth, that's going to be a big mistake because you can imagine all the damage we
04:40will do over the next four years if someone isn't in power who is working to stop the climate change
04:47that's happening. Millennials will be the largest population to go out and vote this year, if
04:54Millennials actually go out and vote. I keep hearing people saying that they're not voting this time
04:58around, and that's not the answer. The things that we decide now are going to impact at least the next
05:0720 years of our lives. I have the most faith in the Millennial generation to actually make a change.
05:13I do hope that we see like a surge, like we see like an incredible call to action amongst young
05:19females.
05:20It is like a moment to step into, and step up to, and to get involved, and to get out
05:26there and vote.
05:32God, I hope Trump doesn't get the nom.
05:37I just don't understand how he could.
