00:00Hey guys it's Lucy and here I am in my adult room. This has been my room for
00:04approximately one year now and I have to tell you a story about last weekend when
00:09I went home to the house that I grew up in. Something that you might not know
00:12about me is that before I graduated high school and went off to college I had
00:16lived in one house for my entire life and the only real thing that changed was
00:20that early on in my life I shared a bedroom with my twin sister and then as
00:24we got older we expanded past the bathroom and we made a little Jack and
00:28Jill bathroom where we each had our own rooms with a connecting bathroom and my
00:32parents still live in that childhood house. So this weekend I went back but I
00:37brought my camera because I wanted to take you guys on a tour of my childhood
00:41bedroom. Started off in the bathroom and you can kind of see the Jack and Jill
00:46situation that's going on. The door on the right was my sister Allie's bedroom door
00:50the door on the left was my door and now we're going inside my room. I'm
00:57fortunate enough that when I graduated and went off to college my parents did
01:00not convert my bedroom into a gym and they also did not throw away my
01:05belongings. So if you go back into my room right this minute it looks pretty
01:09much exactly the same it looked as when I was a senior in high school. I have a
01:13dresser, a chest, and a desk right under the window. Another piece that just sort of
01:18holds books and items. And if you're ever really looking for the good stuff in my
01:22room it can all be found in this cabinet. And the walls of my bedroom are almost
01:26entirely filled with posters of every single play that I was in in high school.
01:31And there are tons of pictures all around my room of me, my sister, my brother, my
01:37boyfriend, and remember my boyfriend Michael who lives with me right here was
01:41my high school boyfriend. So there are pictures of him here and also there. Kids
01:48everywhere. But the real real interesting thing about this was that I found my
01:53diaries from 2003. 2003 I was just graduating fifth grade going into sixth
01:58grade sort of straddling the elementary school and middle school time period. The
02:02first diary I came across was one of those password journals. I don't know if
02:06you ever had a password journal or if you don't know what that is but it's
02:09basically an electronic diary where you record a password and it recognizes your
02:14voice and the passcode. And then when you try to get in it either says welcome
02:17back what's new and opens up for you or it says your password please. Jitterbug.
02:24Password does not match. And when your password does not match. Access denied.
02:31And it beeps like crazy and it's an intruder situation. A classic intruder
02:36situation. And that really came in handy when I was in high school and my brother
02:39was trying to break into the diary. This is the third password journal
02:43I've tried to get into and this one actually said welcome back what's new
02:47but then it didn't open so I'm about ready to smash it. Oh whoa I broke into the
02:56password journal. But aside from the password journals I also had about three
03:00other diaries that were all from the exact same year. So I went through some of
03:04these diaries and I actually learned a lot. Number one I was extremely offended
03:09when my friend did not invite me to her date with her boyfriend. Hannah had a
03:14date today with her boyfriend Brian. I'm surprised that Allie and I weren't
03:18invited. And let me just say this was in maybe fifth grade so I don't really
03:23remember but I guess back then you're supposed to invite your friends to your
03:26dates. The second thing I learned and this is no surprise to me I really wanted
03:30to be a doctor and I was not afraid to write it out in my diary. I want to be
03:36a
03:37doctor spelled d-o-c-t-e-r and then crossed out. Pretty ironic that I wound up
03:44switching from medicine to English but at least I can now spell doctor. I'm trying
03:49to figure out if I was crazy or if you guys did this too. Did anyone else ever
03:53write in a diary at 10 leaving a note to their future kids? I'm going to show this
03:59to my children someday. Whoever my kids are if you're reading this I love you. I
04:04even went so far as to write that I just kissed my belly to kiss my future
04:08children. Was that normal as a kid or was I just a total weirdo? Next thing I
04:12learned I am incapable, 100% incapable, of finishing a diary. Each of them had about
04:1910 pages of text and then I just completely didn't use the rest of it. I
04:23came across my high school agenda and it was just a burst of color. Highlighters,
04:28markers, I was drawing Spongebob characters everywhere. I don't really
04:31know how I focused in class with that kind of beautiful colorful agenda but
04:36maybe I did it on my off time. And something that was a little bit sad to
04:39see was that my college agenda was completely bland. It went from this
04:43beautiful burst of life to bleakness. That's not how the experience felt.
04:48Honestly it felt like I was going into this brave new world of college but I
04:52guess my coloring didn't transfer over. I think it was really cool that I had the
04:56chance to go back through my childhood bedroom and look at some of my relics
05:00from when I was a little girl. And I'm so grateful to my parents for saving all
05:03of that because having the experience at 24 to go back and look at that stuff is
05:08like nothing else.
05:09Did I save that for all these years? I'm loyal.
05:12That is good.
05:13I think the biggest takeaway from this weekend at home is that so much of who I
05:17am today and my personality as a real grown woman was right there in that room as a
05:2310 year old. So if you're a young girl and you're trying to figure out who you're
05:26going to be, just take a look around your room. You could probably figure it out.
05:29And I hope you liked this vlog. Let me know what else you want to see me vlog
05:32about and I'll see you next time. Bye!
