00:00This is where I like to be.
00:02I didn't expect us to win at all, actually,
00:05because we're, you know, the newcomers,
00:06and there's a lot of, you know, kids in the show.
00:10And I mean, it's a strange show to give an acting award.
00:14I mean, I think I'm so proud of this cast,
00:16and I think it's well-deserved.
00:18I think the work that these guys are doing is so extraordinary.
00:21But I did not think we were going to win,
00:23but I did know that if we did win,
00:26I'm very bad at improvisation,
00:28as the rest of the cast can tell you.
00:30So I did not want to go up there with nothing to say.
00:33So I did write this speech,
00:34and it's gone through many iterations.
00:37You know, I've had a lot of feelings and thoughts this last week,
00:41and I wanted to express it in some way
00:45that dealt with what we do through our art,
00:49and also the craft of acting.
00:51And I feel like in our society now,
00:55it's important to remember that acting is a craft,
00:57and that this is a guild,
00:59and it is something worthy of study,
01:00and it's something worthy of hard work and dedication.
01:04And it's not about how popular you are.
01:07It's not about how many likes you get on things.
01:09It's not about...
01:11I see some trends in our society going a certain way,
01:14and I think acting is, at least for my life,
01:17has been a very important component about self-expression
01:19that is very worthy of a guild.
01:21And so I wanted the speech really to be about that.
01:27David, here in the back,
01:28had you run the speech by your castmates?
01:30It sounded like...
01:31Well, it looked like Winona was hearing it for the first time.
01:35Did it?
01:36I didn't see her reaction.
01:37They're priceless.
01:38Go home and watch it.
01:39It's amazing.
01:41Yeah, actually, we were at dinner the other night,
01:43and it was Kara and the teens and myself,
01:48and I was like,
01:48guys, I want to say this kind of crazy speech.
01:51Like, can I run it by you?
01:52And Charlie was like, no, no.
01:54No, you'll ruin it.
01:55You'll jinx us.
01:57But finally, we beat him into submission,
01:59and I did do it for them.
02:00But it even changed last night,
02:02based on the protests that are going on at the airports
02:04and all this stuff that's going down.
02:06I started to change it some more.
02:08But they did help me.
02:09And they did reassure me that it was an okay thing to say
02:12and that it wasn't pretentious and, you know,
02:15and that I could say it.
02:16So I was very appreciative of their feedback.
02:21Thank you, guys.
